My instructor showed me another version, that for a beginner, might be helpful as we tend to keep both feet on the ground. First, the clutch is all the way in, the front break is pressed so the bike is not moving. Then, release the clutch till the friction zone, release the front break - the bike won't move anywhere. Final step is to give it throttle and release the clutch all the way.
