For the record (which is something people say in cases like this), I took the photo of George and Klaus painting the house, at 1.52. I never dreamed that something I did in 1967 would live on for decades via this thing called the internet!

@@jammin6816 Went to England in June 1967, met up with a pen pal (thank you, Beatles Monthly Book) who knew where all The Beatles lived. We spent a day trekking to all their homes by foot and bus. We tried not to be too intrusive, but when we approached George's home, there he was. As soon as he realized we were there, he got up and came to us. We had a conversation. I can't remember the chit chat, probably didn't even hear it because all I was thinking is that I was standing right in front of George Harrison. We asked for a photo. I asked to shake his hand. He couldn't have been nicer.

(02:34) "Unfortunately, the owner did not want to sell the estate to a pop star".
As a child in the 1970'sI lived in a small village in Surrey, next door lived an old lady in a classic 'chocolate box' thatched cottage with stunning rose gardens. It became too much for her so she placed it on the market. One Sunday afternoon my dad answered the door to a chap with a beard asking for keys, he and his two brothers were looking for a place in the country, I think their name was Gibb, the elderly lady refused to sell to 'hippy pop stars' fearing for her beautiful gardens. A few weeks later a charming businessman in a nice suit turned up and offered to buy, "what a charming man" she told my dad. Six months later the bulldozers moved in and flattened the whole building and gardens. The owner was an ambitious property developer who turned it into a small housing estate. There's a lesson to be learned there I think?

The developers in my part of Canada are infamous for buying up estates/properties with historical designations on them and then bulldoze them in the middle of the night without a permit. They get slapped with a 10 000 dollar fine and then laugh all the way to the bank. The world would be an endless subdivision of cookie cutter houses and apartment blocks if they had their way.

He has done many wonderful projects including movies and Thomas The Tank Engine, wrote some lovely tunes in the Beatles catalogue and according to Dave Grohl of The Foo fighters who did a video of this, is one of the best technical drummers going around. Actually tho he had Friar Park, in circa 1970 George only had about £5-£7000 to his name. That's why he bought it to evade the Taxman (there's a song there hmmmm..), for every pound they earned after their tax allowance, they got 1 penny out of every £pound. Their contract with EMI come 1962 they got ½% out of every 100% of sales revenue. By late 60s that probably doubled. Epstein was terrible in money not that he robbed them. But huge worldwide sales brought in money & taxed & EMI-ied. But they loved music. Paul's father in law was a big lawyer & that's why sensibly he didn't join Allen Klein the robbing b@st@rd!

It's crucial to clarify that Pattie left George due to his repeated infidelities over the years. His indiscretions were undeniable, including an affair with Ringo's wife, Maureen, which he openly admitted to Ringo in front of Pattie. While George is undoubtedly a wonderful and talented individual, it's important to acknowledge the reason why Pattie left him. (still by fav Beatle, btw

£400k is absolutely f**k all for a house like that in Surrey these days. Esher is a wealthy town and In reality Kinfauns is probably now worth north of £1m.
And George's £140k offer was likely due to a bidding war with another prospective buyer, might even have been "gazumping" as it's now called.
