The recording studio at Tittenhurst can also be seen in two videos by the band Squeeze: they shot both Cool For Cats and Up The Junction in that house.

Cruickshank is pronounced Crookshank, from Scotland and also an owner of two rough collie dogs. Interesting video thanks.......

Tittenhurst Park is very beautiful. I remember hearing that John and the other Beatles had thought about buying Tittenhurst Park for all of them to live in like a commune. I think it was Cynthia that said this. Cynthia lived with John in the "Kenwood" house a different property which was also nice. There are probably many reasons why John and Yoko moved to New York part of it was to find Yoko's daughter Kyoko. Looking back Tittenhurst Park would have made a great investment for John Lennon. There was definitely room for Cynthia and Julian to live there and John Lennon's half-sisters and some of John's friends. Once John Lennon got his Green Card he could have come back to Britain. They still hadn't found Kyoko though. Yoko is now thankfully reunited with her daughter Kyoko.

Yoko would NEVER had allowed all of his family to live there. Sad.

John sold the estate because Yoko probably insisted that he buy into the Dakota. Perhaps one of the most exclusive and expensive addresses in New York City.

The Dakota is that indeed! I was just at the gates of Tittenhurst Park and was treated rudely by the creepy guards there. The guards know nothing of the propery's history. Frankly, as a huge rock n roll fan, it made me sick. No more peace snd love!

You forgot the John Lennon had two half brothers born in 1969, 1973, respectively from his father, Alfred and his second wife who was about 30 years younger than him. But John became estranged from him until he was near death in 1976.

Great video, I never knew about the Ringo recording studio. I wonder if they upgraded the tech in there. When John had it built in 1970 there was a 16 track console installed which he used on his albums. Music Technology was moving really fast at this time so I would imagine? That by 74 say the original desk was obsolete. There were super duper Neve consoles for the boys to play with at this point. I think Yoko took over John's affairs which is probably why it was sold.

I learned in another video that the estate was acquired by some wealthy person from the Middle East, who did extensive renovations across the property. I didn't read anything about the recording studio within the main house, but for its historical value, I hope that it was preserved.

It’s wasn’t John who didn’t tell Ringo. It was Yoko. She handled the finances and business dealing and not telling Ringo is a very Yoko move. Also, he was not swimming in money. Everything was tied up in the Beatles lawsuit and he had to borrow a lot of money from Allen Klein to survive.

Owning property in the UK is expensive. You have to pay annual estate taxes, and you have to pay for upkeep. And none of the Beatles were swimming in money in the 1970`s. Tax rates in the UK were extremely high. The income tax was over 90%, and when you add all the rest of the taxes on top of that the Beatles payed 98% in tax of every dime they earned.
It was a little bit better in the U.S. where you "only" had to pay 70%. On top of that, the death tax in the UK is extreme. If he had put Tittenhurst Park in a trust to Julian, Julian would have had to pay 40% of the whole estates value in tax. That means that he would have had to sell the estate in order to be able to pay the taxes. It`s much better now. The death tax is still there, but the income tax has been reduced to 45%. That is why the Beatles fortunes grew considerably in the 1980`s.
Paul McCartney became the richest popstar in the world, and George and Ringo became extremely wealthy. George Harrison left almost 100 million pounds to his wife and son when he passed away in 2001, and Ringo is worth almost $400 million. Paul is a billionaire, and has been for years. But that was not the case in the 70`s. George and Ringo barely had any money even though they both had very successful solo careers where they sold millions of records on their own, on top of all the millions the Beatles sold.
George Harrison invested his money in Friar Park. And he never sold it. That is probably the best investment he ever made, cause it is probably worth over $100 million now. He bought it for 400 000 pounds in 1970. John did however invest his money in real estate in the U.S. He owned many houses around the U.S. and bought a lot of apartments in the Dakota building in New York. Real estate in New York City is a very clever investment. Those apartments he bought in the Dakota are probably worth over $100 million, and he bought them for $2 million.
Yoko was able to make John millions of dollars on clever investments in art, real estate, and live stock during the 70`s. John made more money from those investments than he made on his music. Paul did the same thing. He invested his money wisely, and bought the rights to Buddy Hollys catalogue. He also owns the rights to the musical "Annie" and many other lucrative musicals. It made him into the wealthiest Beatle, and he is the only Beatle to become a dollar billionaire.
In addition to his investments, he also makes a ton of money from his music. He is touring every year, and has made a billion dollar on touring since 2010. He also receives royalties for his Beatles catalogue, even though it is owned by somebody else. That creates a huge income for Paul every year. Ringo is touring every year, and makes a steady income on that. It is said that he makes at least 5-10 million dollars on touring each year. He also makes a lot of money on the Beatles, so he is a very wealthy man. Ringo owns houses all over the world, and he used to live in Monaco where they pay nothing in income tax.

To answer your question at 2:14 At this point in history The Beatles were basically cash poor, as their money was tied up in unresolved Apple lawsuits and tax issues-plus suits with Allen Klein.

Since you asked ... as a human being, John was an ass so the idea of offering Tittenhurst Park to his fellow Beatles or to Julia never crossed his mind. As a musician and artist he was awesome ... as a human being, not so much.

John most likely sold the estate in 1973 for financial reasons. While the Beatles had money a lot of it was tied up in Apple and Apple was in receivership while the court oversaw the dissolution of the band. Each Beatle got a generous allowance but it wouldn’t have been enough to maintain such an estate especially one that John wasn’t living
in. They also wasted a lot of $ on lawyers and accountants due to lawsuits and John fighting deportation.

The Beatles were literally broke in the 60`s and the 70`s because of the crazy tax rates in the UK. The Beatles payed 98% of their income in taxes. So if the made a million pounds, they had to pay 980000 pounds in tax. They were only left with 20 000 pounds on each million they made, and that 20000 had to be shared by the four Beatles, which meant that each Beatle only made 5000 pounds on each million the Beatles were making. 5000 pounds is 87500 pounds in todays money, so it goes to show that they weren`t super rich. George had to borrow a lot of money to be able to buy Friar Park which cost him 100 000 pounds in 1970. Thank god things changed in the 80`s when they taxes rates where cut down to 40%. That is when the members of the Beatles started to get very rich. Paul became a billionaire, and George and Ringo earned hundreds of millions of pounds. John`s estate also cashed in. Yoko is a very rich woman today. I am not a huge fan of Maggie Thatcher, but her tax cuts was needed. It had to be done. It`s is sad that she cut benefits, and created mass poverty and unemployment in the UK in the 80`s, but that `s a different story.

Why didn't John keep it for his son or family? He and Cynthia had bought it together, and I believe his new companion wanted it out of the equation altogether.
