      Exactly. The whole show is a bit goofy, almost parody-like, charmingly naive family treat. And then we suddenly got this one!! Scary, tragic, brilliantly and, first of all, damn seriously played, scripted and filmed true drama. Its epic music with Beethoven 7th-like vibes, the only single actor episode in the whole franchise, with this clever Grimm brothers' tale rethinking. A story of burning grief, anger, stubbornness and desperation. It's about smth that looks like fighting the windmills but actually is a cruel, atrocious battle with the impossible without even being able to see the end result. All the billions of copies of Doctor died without seeing he won in the end. And this is a story of amazing wholesomeness of a character: billions and billions of times he did exactly the same things!! He always made the same choices! And that's what made him win.

      That episode is my prime example of why ratings numbers need so much context that they are essentially meaningless by themselves. Ratings wise it was one of the worst episodes of nu who but EVERYONE knows it was an absolute tour de force ratings numbers be damned.

      I know I'm probably going to get slack for this, but I consider the entire Series 9 finale trilogy to be one of the best stories ever in the show. Heaven Sent truly deserves its status (tho maybe it's praised a tiny bit too much...), but don't count out the other two episodes.

    I was lucky enough to attend the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular at the Hydro in Glasgow. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ben Foster conducting, Peter Davison emceeing and multiple Doctor Who monsters prowling amongst the audience and on stage. It was a phenomenal night and the music was superb. The only way it could have been better was if “The Shepherds Boy” from Heaven Sent was included, but short of the Doctor intervening that wouldn’t have been possible.

      Thank you for being one of the few people who view Segun Akinola's music as on the same footing as Murray Gold's, it gets a little tiring seeing so many people saying Segun Akinola's work isn't as good especially since I personally prefer Segun Akinola's more atmospheric style as it's more in line with quite a few of Classic Who's soundtracks

      It’s annoyes me so much that people say segun is not as good I think there both amazing and if anythign I prefer segan’s main theme to Murray gold’s and we have to remember that Murray gold did 10 seasons of music segan did 3.

    • @hotdog1214
      @hotdog1214 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@IcySlavKat Yes same here. I really enjoyed the fresh, more ambient (almost with a nod to Classic Who's sound) style that we got when Segun came on board. Not to say that Murray wasn't good, obviously, he has some absolute masterpieces but imo so does Segun. They have different styles and I think we can and should appreciate them both for the fantastic work they have both done on Who. This video is proof that they are of equal standing and as with all art, bring their own piece of magic to the party.
      It is forever saddening that its being treated as a competition and that in order to worship at the alter of Murray Gold, Segun Akinola is being berated by some fans. You can have a favourite but its isn't necessary to bad mouth someone else to do that.
      PS @Nathaniel Farkas - Seguns opening theme is my favourite version of NuWho as well, really harks back to the original theme for me. Its equal parts punchy and nostalgic! 😁😁

      @@hotdog1214 Nothing can top the series 4 theme, but Segun Akinola's theme is definitely in second place. It's quite good

    • @hotdog1214
      @hotdog1214 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@sparshjohri1109 Hmm, well I kindly disagree, it does have a nice other worldly punch to it but I'm not really a big fan of the orchestrated versions. I like Segun's because he went back to the original Delia Derbyshire notes and started from scratch; which to my ear returns it to its more alien like intro from the 60s. My 2nd place would go to Peter Howell largely due to an abundance of 80s nostalgia! 😁😁

    As great as 12's main theme is, for me his theme will always be "The Shepherd's Boy". Murray Gold is undoubtedly a genius but let's give some love to Ben Foster who orchestrated, conducted & mixed the music from Series 2-8. In my mind, he is the natural successor to Murray Gold, he only left in S9 because he wanted to compose instead of orchestrate, I can see him jumping at the chance!
