Season two was actually good imo. Character development go crazy and i'm a sucker for that. Thorfinn carries all of the unwarranted killings with him, and they torment him every day of his life and it shows his growth as a person. Was also sad to see Askeladd's death, his whole being a descendent of the man who was the inspiration for the legend of King Arthur, was sick. But his death was necessary for Thorfinn to have room to grow

Thorfinn finally realized what his father Thors was trying to teach him "You have no enemies". With Gohan, Goku trained him to not only be a fighter but to replace him as defender of Earth, but Goku didn't realize that Gohan never wanted any of that at all. Like Gohan said, he only trained cuz he wanted to spend time with his father.

3 things 1. Thorfinn could have beaten Askeladd had his anger not gotten the best of him. If he fought calmly, he would have had a better chance. 2. Thorfinn finally understood what Thors was trying to tell him. Unlike Thors, Thorfinn had no enemies. He only killed people to avenge his father's death in order to duel Askeladd. But when Askeladd died, his purpose of fighting disappeared.
Thorkell was physically stronger but that's about it Thors was smarter and much better fighter and shows probably at this point in time the first instance of "martial arts"

No anime will ever compare in characters and writing to Vinland Saga, even it's weaker Season which I would argue is Season 1, not 2. Season 2 is far superior in writing, and Thorfinn doesn't even feel like the main character in Season 1.

Season 2 is awesome. The only difference between that and Season 1 is that Season 1 is a prolouge, and the story takes a different direction from just battles and pillaging.
For those confused about the ship scene they basically built ships overnight so they could sail around the back side of the fortress that was completely defenseless from an attack coming from the ocean. The archers also couldn't shoot at them once they realized what was going on because thorfinn was keeping them busy while going after the enemy general.
Also lots of spoilers but askeladd is my favorite character. There was a lot of mystery about his past and his goals. Like Thorfinn, you (the viewer) are angry at him for killing Thors but you're still curious about him. Then you learn more about his mother and father, how he grew to hate Danes(the Vikings),how he planned to use Canute to keep his homeland from being invaded. Like the dude was on an ACTUAL mission. The part where the king literally tries to force him to choose between Canute's life so that he couldn't have the thrown or saving wales was so chilling.So what does the man do? He chose both. so he kills the king and pretends to go insane so that Canute can kill him,take the credit, and become king. as the anime went on I like how Askeladd unintentionally becomes like a father figure to thorfinn which makes it worse when thorfinn is both upset that he couldn't avenge his biological father but is also about to watch his second one die. Then that moment during his final breaths where Askeladd asks thorfinn what does he plan to do with his life after he's gone and thorfinn realizes he doesn't have an answer. His whole reason for living the past years was just revenge and now it's gone. Which is why I love the character development he goes through in S2 from being a broken slave with nothing to live for and doesn't even care about his own life anymore to becoming like his father, appreciating life. He tries to be a true warrior . I feel alot of people who dropped season 2 just didn't know what kind of anime this was supposed to be or they want the show to just be all action. To me season 2 is in no way bad. Like i can understand if it's just not for some people but it's not bad. It's some of the best writing and character development I have ever seen in a LONG time and The theme that taking life or using violence shouldn't be the first option taken when there is conflict was great. Also "I have no enemies" has to be one of the best lines I have heard from an anime.
The character development in season 2 was unlike anything ive ever seen in any anime before, in the first season you see a teenage boy thorfinn willing to do anything, kill anyone to kill Askeladd. He was a pretty one dimensional character in season 1, just trying to get revenge for his father. After i finished season 1, i thought the ending was perfect. It couldnt be better. I wasnt looking forward to season 2 tbh, i was skeptical on how they were going to continue the series. Season 2 spoilers ahead: When it started out with Einar, instead of Thorfinn i thought that was interesting, and seeing his family and everything be murdered and his village pillaged before his very eyes, then sold off as a slave. But then he met Thorfinn, a very empty man, who didnt say much, working on a farm. This concept didnt excite me then, so i wasnt expecting anything big. But watching Einar's and Thorfinns relationship grow, despite Einar knowing what thorfinn did, killed countless people like the vikings that invaded his homeland. Seeing there relationship grow, through the good times and the bad times was very enjoyable and relatable. And the genius way the series continued, season 1 overlapped with season 2 perfectly. From thorfinns relationship with askeladd, and what thorfinns dad was trying to tell him in season 1. And Askeladd helping thorfinn in season 2, in his dream the man he once hated was a father figure, even though he killed his father. I could go on and on about this series, just finished season 2 yesterday and was blown away. I know some people like anime for only action, and a lot of people didnt like how Thorfinn became a pacifist and all that, but that just shows how well season 2 connects with season 1. Thorfinn grew as a character by becoming a pacifist and not resorting to violence like his father was telling him in season 1. Thorfinn grows more and more every episode, and it does it so perfectly and relatably. The people he's killed in the past would come to haunt him every night, torturing him, saying how hes any different from Askeladd killing his father. Just the way the characters changed and suffered felt so real, like actual people, and i cant ask for more than that, i felt stuff in this show i havn't felt before. But if half the people who only watch shows for action where willing to give it a chance, we all can see how well the characters are fleshed out, beyond just muscle and skill, and relate with them to there own humanity. This show has some great morals and messages, beyond anime and beyond fiction, i think we can all learn from.10/10 great job Mappa and Makoto Yukimura for bringing this amazingly well written story to the world.

Ahhh yes. One of the people salty that the incredibly well written viking story continued to be incredibly well written in season 2, but without the crazy violence. People who had read ahead, knew that this would happen when season 2 was announced.
The overwhelming majority of people who watch anime do not read the manga. Out of the total viewership of the anime i would be amazed if even 10% have read ahead(or at all).

And if they try to animate it and fall short the studio would be removed from existence. So far nobody has had the stones to try. 5:00 I've got more details on that. The Norse belief is that there are a select few who can go to Valhalla, and there's a maximum number across all of time. Only the greatest warriors gain entry. The Goddess Freya has her own version of Valhalla called Fólkvangr. For the most part though, the dead would go to Helheim, which wasn't a bad place (unless you really deserved it in life). From what I understand, it was kind of just a peaceful afterlife for those who led a peaceful life.

Season 2 was amazing, it was slower paced not a lot of action but the story and the themes was heartbreaking. I appreciated it. Being action and fighting heavy doesn’t make something good. But that’s just me. I enjoyed Thorfinns arc and growth as a character.

Vinland saga is based off of a real story, that's why season 2 branched off as a peace season, because thorfinn is based off a viking that was looking for peace with his so called "enemies" hence the quote "I have no enemies". I get that CJ was trying to hype up Vinland Saga as a violent and brutal series, but he’s really downplaying the overall tone and emotional depth of the series. Yeah the action and animation are phenomenal, but it is so much more than that. From the art and animation, storytelling, character development, and even the music and sound design; Vinland Saga completely blew me away.

I know some people like anime for only action, and a lot of people didnt like how Thorfinn became a pacifist and all that, but that just shows how well season 2 connects with season 1. Thorfinn grew as a character by becoming a pacifist and not resorting to violence like his father was telling him in season 1. Thorfinn grows more and more every episode, and it does it so perfectly and relatably. The people he's killed in the past would come to haunt him every night, torturing him, saying how hes any different from Askeladd killing his father. Just the way the characters changed and suffered felt so real, like actual people, and i cant ask for more than that, i felt stuff in this show i havn't felt before. But if half the people who only watch shows for action where willing to give it a chance, we all can see how well the characters are fleshed out, beyond just muscle and skill, and relate with them to there own humanity. This show has some great morals and messages, beyond anime and beyond fiction, i think we can all learn from.10/10 great job Mappa and Makoto Yukimura for bringing this amazingly well written story to the world.

Ahhh yes. One of the people salty that the incredibly well written viking story continued to be incredibly well written in season 2, but without the crazy violence. People who had read ahead, knew that this would happen when season 2 was announced.
The overwhelming majority of people who watch anime do not read the manga. Out of the total viewership of the anime i would be amazed if even 10% have read ahead(or at all).

@@okita_souji_alter Once you read it, you will understand that Vagabond can not be animated. Some of the images in Vagabond can and had been displayed in art galleries. It's ART. And if they try to animate it and fall short the studio would be removed from existence. So far nobody has had the stones to try. I mean the Demon Slayer studio may have the technical know-how, but even they have not tried.
It's funny because season 2 does have some combat, granted it's at the end.

Season 2 was amazing, it was slower paced not a lot of action but the story and the themes was heartbreaking. I appreciated it. Being action and fighting heavy doesn’t make something good. But that’s just me. I enjoyed Thorfinns arc and growth as a character.

I get that CJ was trying to hype up Vinland Saga as a violent and brutal series, but he’s really downplaying the overall tone and emotional depth of the series.
Yeah the action and animation are phenomenal, but it is so much more than that. From the art and animation, storytelling, character development, and even the music and sound design; Vinland Saga completely blew me away.
