Thornfinn is honestly a better fighter than Askeladd it's just he couldn't focus whenever they fought he let his emotions run wild which made it easy for Askeladd to read his and predict his attacks.
@@nappyk96Debatable! Thorfinn lost everytime against Askeladd because he couldn't control his emotions that's for sure and Askeladd was capitalizing on that everytime to get an easy win. But everytime during their fights were Thorfinn were calm and collected for a few seconds, his instincts told him to stay away from him. In episode he started good then he stepped back because Askeladd was about to catch him and he stay away not knowing what to do and in episode 22 right after Bjorn death, Thorfinn was sweating and couldn't move because Askeladd had a serious face that he never seen before.
So it's not really Thorfinn is a better fighter it's just that Askeladd doesn't bother and chooses the easy route
What CJ doesn't tell you is Askeladd's background. Askeladd isn't really his name. Askeladd is basically means ashy feet, because he was forced to do the shit jobs growing up, like cleaning out fire pits, because his mother was kidnapped as a sex slave from wales and gave birth to him after she had been taken.
Askeladd is every indignity Thorfinn suffered x10. Effectively Thorfin is fighting an older, smarter, more angry version of himself.
Fun fact askellad offered to follow thors after he lost coz he believed that he was a leader worth following but he could see in his eyes that he wouldnt say yes and then played it off to say face with his crew but he truly respected him in that single fight and first meeting
And you gotta consider how long he'd been living the life of a warrior and how many people he'd already killed. I'd imagine at some point the killing just started to blur together so for Askeladd remember Thors even though they only had 1 brief interaction years prior really shows how much he respected Thors as a warrior.
He couldn't beat askellad because he can't control his emotions when he fight him ,he get angry and that's how he lose he doesn't think while he is fighting askeladd

The reason Thorfinn couldn't beat Askeladd is because they fought so many duels and fought in the same battles that Askeladd knew all of Thorfinn's moves.
No it was really because he always lost his temper. When he lost his temper his moves became easy to detect

@@syx6766He literally tells Thorfinn that he could beat him if it wasn't for Thorfinn's temper. It's part of what the point of him telling Thorfinn about how he killed his father was.
He was trying to drive home the point that as long as Thorfinn kept rushing in recklessly letting his emotions cloud his judgement he'd never beat him even though Thorfinn was the better fighter at that point.
2nd season maybe not better than the first action wise , but better in everything else ,like character development , writing ,and emotionally too

Nah there is less fights in season 2 but the fights that are there are top tier
