Wow! You have outdone yourselves! I think this has been the best video you have ever made. The generosity of Steve to enable you to enjoy such amazing bucket lists items, wow, what a guy! The video, the photography, the still shots, the bears, lupins, fishing, the story line, has just made your experience come alive in our living room. We were right there with you, excited for everything, holding our breath when the mama bear tried so hard to catch a fish, and then finally succeeded time and time again. Thank you for sharing your advantures with us once again. Our smiles are huge!❤ Rose & Michael xx
Michael from Florida. I have to tell you guys that the one and only time I met you guys I just sensed an authentic and genuine character about you. I STILL look forward to every video every Saturday morning like a kid does with cartoons. Every week I leave a like before I even watch the video. You guys just keep doing what your doing. Be safe in your travels and be blessed, Michael
+@michaelbennett6959 thank you! What you see is what you get! We say that we are normal everyday boring people! 😂😂 we just had a dream and dared to jump! TH-cam is an amazing platform but it does get under your skin…. We try hard not to let that happen and just do what we love….. and be helpful to others! So far it has been an amazing journey! We really enjoy meeting you all across the country….its one of our favorite things!
+@michaelbennett6959 thank you so much! I really appreciate that! As a small channel it’s easy to get discouraged at times when the views don’t line up with your passion and the amount of work that goes into each video.
@@oneadVANtureatatime Carrie, You are MORE THAN WELCOME! I am thinking about starting 2 TH-cam channels myself. It won't be van life because I simply don't have the ability to create enough content (at least not until I retire. we just paid off the house 4 months ago.). I am going more along the lines of a cooking channel and a community channel that talks about sharing life experiences, adventures, inspiring life lessons, story-telling, little nuggets of wisdom, truth, knowledge as well as topics on money, retirement, business, fellowship, love, minimalism, decluttering and whatever else comes down the pike. I want to create a community of like-minded people where we share in each others experiences and grow together. I also want to sprinkle in some video footage of wildlife, nature and just some good old fashioned interesting B-Roll footage that I've been saving for a looooong time. I have been studying videography. I have more ideas and notes that I can possible keep up with. So I'm not worried about any shortages of material. But Carrie, I have to tell you that you and Dave are 2 seriously wonderful people that I draw A LOT of inspiration from. The memory of meeting you both in Florida will stay with me just as well as the memories you are having about Alaska right now. I only wish I could put into words how much you and Dave impact my life. Perhaps one day I will make a shout out video of my fave TH-camrs. Until then have safe travels and be blessed. P.S. When the day comes that Carol and I get to shoot the breeze around a campfire with you, I am putting Dave in charge of chopping wood with his freshly sharpened axes.
Carrie and Dave, don't you sell yourselves short. You bring so much great info, beauty, and inspiration to our lives! I've been hunting down your Utah videos for tips for our next adventure! THANK YOU!!! God speed, my friends. Can't wait to see you again!
+@stehrcrazy8821 Utah is AMAZING! You have a personal Patreon message line if you need any help. We would love to meet you guys there one of these days!
That intro was very sweet. I'm still a fairly new viewer but I truly appreciate each of your videos and how much work you put into them. Thank you for taking us along for another adVANture in Alaska and I am so thrilled that both Dave and Carrie were able to get those two bucket list trips while they were there. So, thanks to Steve from the viewing audience as well! Great catch, Dave! And glad you weren't caught by bears, Carrie!❣See you next week!
Thank you for the reminders of my family trip to Homer (we also camped on the spit and hope to go back someday) and we tent camped at Katmai National Park. Seeing the bears fishing was high on my bucket list (love my bear school pin) and the day trip to Valley of 10,000 Smokes was also fascinating. BTW they are Brown Bears not Grizzlies. Thanks again
Every week I say WOW. What a fabulous Homer visit. Those lupines! That little mama bear trying and trying to catch a fish. It does make you happy to see her succeed! I am so thrilled and happy for you, Dave and Carrie, to finally get to Alaska and have your dream vacation. You are two very good people who really deserve the trip of a lifetime. Thanks again for sharing this with us!
So thrilled for you guys. I've been up to Alaska twice and I.Fell in love with it. I thought oregon and washington were the most beautiful states in the country until I came up there and found out they were just little brothers. You're a fun couple to watch and I love your enjoyment of everything so god bless you and oh have fun eating your halibut❤
Without a doubt, the best video of this Alaskan series. The 36 minutes passed in a flash. Only thing missing was seeing some of that beautiful halibut cooking🤠. And as always the music you choose is the best of any videos we watch. Truly enjoyed every minute of this one. See you next Saturday!
Brought tears of joy to this grateful Grandmama. Thank you for taking me to Alaska and experiencing a whole new world ❣️ Loved seeing Dave smile until his cheeks hurt. And Carrie, I literally teared up when you got emotional (a couple times) What perfect photography & editing with supporting music 😍 I don't mean to sound like a critic 😂 I just want y'all to know I love this adventure & for taking me along 💞 Sending Grandmama love, Iris and Little One ❌⭕
Thank you so much for coming along! I got emotional editing this video and it probably took us 10 tries to record that video intro without me crying😂😂 I’m not usually that emotional but I was just overcome with gratitude😘
I'm so happy that you two got to experience these amazing adventures in Alaska. You deserve it! Thanks for taking us along and showing us the beauty of Alaska.
+@slowalaskan I always feel like I could showcase an area better! Homer was on our list of “must sees” before we even left the lower 48 and that included meeting you! You have been with us for many years and we couldn’t wait to meet you in person! I didn’t show the 4th of July footage because…. Well no one is interested in September but your small town parade brought me right back to my childhood hometown and it was the 1st time I’ve missed community while on the road! Your hometown of HOMER is special!
Dave and Carrie, Your North American travel channel is the best. And I truly appreciate your authenticity. Thank you for such great travel content. So happy you are enjoying your Bucket List destination: Alaska
Wow, thank you! It’s funny how TH-cam works! When you are at your most authentic and passionate without drama…. Usually the video does not do well🤷♀️. I’ve had so many great compliments about this video and several people saying they think it’s one of our best, and yet it’s not performing well on TH-cam🤷♀️ go figure. ITS AN AMAZING MEMORY FOR US!
@@oneadVANtureatatime I don't know how TH-cam works. There's some new travel gal, Glory's Stories, that's only been on the road a month and has 43,000 Subs. What?!? Do people buy Subs? What are the sea sick patches that Dave had? That is the one thing I really suffer with!!! 🤢 Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful experiences
+@PinInTheAtlas I too have had Katmai on my Bucketlist ever since I saw the first picture of it….. probably David Attenborough! My only suggestion is…. Try to camp or stay at the lodge (very expensive) so you can have more time before and after the tourists fly in and out. We had 3-4 hours on the ground…. It was AWESOME but more time would be even better!
And a big THANK YOU right back at ya.... We've been enjoying your videos for some time now and often say they are so well done and entertaining. We are happy you like doing them because we love watching em.
Wow! So beautiful. I'm so happy for the two of you. I'm glad it felt like a vacation. You deserve it. Thanks for all of the good information about the location. I hope to see a fish cooking video soon. Safe travels.

+@dianabalto they are lupines. We had these growing up in California but these here in Homer are the biggest I’ve ever seen! They lined the sidewalk for the entire length of the spit! SO BEAUTIFUL

I'm so happy for you guys, and the crew with you! How blessed you are to experience these beautiful wild adventures. May you be blessed with more. Thx for sharing this with all of us. ❤ happy trails ahead.
Thank you so much for the thank you. I know you sincerely meant it but please understand how many people either can't go or won't go on an adventure like this and the joy you bring us in watching. With that said are you NUTS!! First off never get on a small plane. Second you were so close to those monster bears. So glad you came back. Okay maybe not nuts just adventurous. My Son's Father-In-Law, he is from Alaska, claims my Son has the record for a Halibut. Now mind you he said it was the worlds smallest Halibut but a record is a record. I got to enjoy some Halibut one time made by his wife and I am not a fish guy at all but boy was that good. She put it in some kind of batter and cooked it up. Again another epic video and thank you for sharing!!
+@danrandall794 I 1000% meant it!!! I’m glad it came across heartfelt! I agree…. A record is a record! You should see the record in Valdez, I think the halibut was 340 pounds and as long as a person! I too am not a huge fish person but halibut is delicious!! When we were at Katmai…. It was so surreal! I knew I should be afraid when that GIANT bear walked by us….. but I wasn’t! Oh I had respect for her and she definitely had the right away! What an amazing experience…. I am happy to share!
You guys are going to be eating well. So glad Dave got to do some fishing. Congrats to Carrie for graduating bear school too! You guys got so close. That was just amazing watching them fish. We're overjoyed you guys got to finally do this Alaska thing.
Thank you! This has been such an EPIC adVANture! It feels like nothing will compare to this when we get back to the lower 48. I feel like a changed person…. I was going to say it’s hard to explain but I imagine you guys felt something similar when you got back!
Thank you guys for taking us along on this adventure and all the other adventures over the years. Dave's smile after his fishing trip was priceless. That bear trip seems like a must do. This is the best of Alaska so far...Happy Trails 🐕...can you provide links to the 2 excursions
I'm so glad you guys thoroughly enjoyed yourselves at Homer. You got to see and do amazing things; Carrie got to fly "Alaskan style" taking pictures galore and Dave got perhaps one of the best fishing experiences one could ever want. I was there in 2006 and it was beyond memorable (we got to see a moose from just six feet away) so I can imagine how you felt standing just yards from an Alaskan Brown Bear ("Kodiak Bear"?). They didn't appear to be Grizzly Bears as their coats seemed yellowish. You two are just about the most humble, down-to-earth people and whenever I show my friends and family your videos they all remark "what an exceptional couple". And of course, what a great fella Roodle is! Can't wait until your next adventure!
What a gorgeous place! So glad you got to do the bucket list things! I know I say this on all the videos where I comment, but....I love your photography! Thanks for taking us along! What freezer do you guys have? We've been wanting to get one. Which one do you use?
Thanks for posting the nice video on Homer and your travels from there! You mentioned that nice laundromat/showers...what is the name of this place? I might need to stop there on my next visit to Homer. I visited Homer in 2023 and also stayed on the spit, but at the higher priced RV parks further down the spit. While they are more expensive than the city run RV lots they are more convenient as they are closer to the businesses at the end of the spit, as they are walkable. Again thanks for posting...it is a beautiful place! Looking forward to your next video.
The name of the laundromat is Washboard, 1204 Ocean Dr, Homer, Alaska. Yeah I hear you about the staying further down on the spot… much more convenient. Where we stayed would be great if you had a bike.
Thanks for the info! No matter where one stays on the spit...it is all beautiful! I've been watching all of your Alaska videos, and enjoyed everyone! Give Roodle a scratch for me!
Crazy question but are you guys going the beet or potatoes harvest this year? Also are you doing a calendar this year? Such great pictures. Last question. How is your mom doing Carrie? Health wise. ❤
No Beet or Potato harvest this year as we wanted to stay in Alaska as long as possible and enjoy the fall on our way back down through Canada. We will most likely do it next year as this is how we fund our extra curricular activities and keep an emergency/maintenance fund for the van. We have been having some issues with the van and we might have to dip into that emergency fund this week. We have an appointment at the transmission shop on Friday… we will find out if it’s a minor fix or a new transmission is needed. Yes I plan on doing a calendar this year and have started picking photos. Mom seems to be doing well all things considered. She has alot of doctors visits but that seems par for the course after chemo. Thanks for asking😃
We love you guys! So thank YOU for bringing us along every week! It was so nice to see you guys in Homer and hope our paths cross again soon!! Safe travels!!
beautiful! loved your bucket list adventures! great photography. great video. loved the music. loved no music with the plane scenes. the light at 10pm and the flowers ... gorgeous! Loved the mama and baby bear fishing ! jam packed info. love you guys!
@@mckennacreative6133 that is totally okay! We understand that not everyone is in a financial situation to become a patron. Support comes in many forms. THANK YOU for coming along on the journey😃
That was awesome...oh my gosh I loved watching the bears too... do you know what kind of flowers the pretty purple ones were? I bet they smelled amazing. thank you for bringing us along... Deb from South Dakota
Those are Lupines. They grow in the west as well, I remember them growing up in northern California but they NEVER got this big! You usually see them in this purple color but I have seen them yellow as well! I LOVE THEM!
Thank you! I imagine we will be down in that area again…. Possibly after the first of the year. It’s so hard for us to plan things! We have been having some issues with the van which is one of the main reasons we are still in Anchorage, Alaska! Plus I think this year is the year we want to spend the holidays with family in California😃
Hey guys. Want to say hello from Florida and to say we love your videos ❤. Dave, can you share the name of your fishing charter? We will be in Homer next year and we are interested in a good charter. Thanks! Safe travels
+@softdorothy that is sweet! Refresh my memory so I can place your face with your name! We met so many amazing people in Alaska….. I was not expecting that!
+@cindywiech2675 we were there a few days before the Fourth of July and a few days after. We usually tend to stay away from town on holidays but with our trips it just worked out for this timeframe.
Great video! I am a little confused about the timeline. I know your videos are usually several weeks behind. This came out in mid Sept. Then you mentioned in the end of the video that you saw a 4th of July Parade. Were you in Homer in the 1st week of July?
+@julien2912 yes, we were in homer for the 4th of July. We were there because our Katmai flight was on the 7th. We usually are not this far behind but we have been moving faster than normal in Alaska. In Alaska we have been moving every 3-4 days and in the states when we are on our own we usually move every 7-10 days.
+@debbiejohnson5550 it was the most surreal experience!! There are strict guidelines that everyone must follow…. The bears don’t see us as a food or play source. They have the complete right of way. I knew I should have been scared when that massive momma and large cub walked by us on the trail …..but I wasn’t!!! Oh I had the most respect for her….. she looked at us one time sizing up the situation and I gave her the “your the boss” vibes😂😂😂
I formerly drove OTR trucks for many years. Trip inspections were mandatory. Extensive training and licensing were required. I dislike government regulation but this is witness that ANYONE can go in a class A and drive down the road with no understanding or knowledge of the 20 ton missile which they are driving and they are no more than a steering wheel holder. I get flack from friends when I say it is time to require training and licenses for drivers of these vehicles.
+@bertkelly7650 thank you! Your calendar purchase is much appreciated especially now! Storm trooper (our van) is sharing a “check engine light” we find out on the 20th if we need a new transmission. We were able to put some money into our emergency car fund with the calendar sales…. So thank you!

"A record is a record," LOL. ❣
@@PulpParadise Darn right
+@danrandall794 I 1000% meant it!!!
I'm so happy for you guys to have this experience ❤
Thank you guys for taking us along on this adventure and all the other adventures over the years. Dave's smile after his fishing trip was priceless. That bear trip seems like a must do. This is the best of Alaska so far...Happy Trails 🐕...can you provide links to the 2 excursions
Dave & Carrie, thank you for letting me c your adVANtures.
“We’ll leave the light on for ya!”
Congrats, Dave! Thank you, Steve, for making their dreams come true! 🎣 🐻 I would love to do both trips too. 😊
This was a great video! So glad you got to experience this trip! We enjoyed sharing with you! I now have a craving for halibut!
God bless!!!! 😊
+@frannie52 thank you! There is no shortage of fish and chips up here! The boys have been indulging…. Even before the fishing trip
If it teases you up a tree it's a Black Bear, if a tears the tree down it's a Grizzly bear!
What if it is white?
Oooh we love birch syrup. We have had it at a restaurant in Williamsburg VA.
What an adventure. This is your best video so far in our opinion. We just totally enjoyed watching you guys having such a blast!
Great video. Only one thing missing.... MORE ROODLE! LOL.
Gorgeous photography! What a beautiful video. Always look forward to your videos!
A halibut for the helluvit!
For sure! When in Alaska go for the halibut😂😂😂
Great still shots at the end! You two had two great adventures at this stop.
+@fourwheelcamper5491 thank you…. WE SURE DID!!! I took so many photos of the bears! There will be at least one bear photo in this years calendar
beautiful! loved your bucket list adventures! great photography. great video. loved the music. loved no music with the plane scenes. the light at 10pm and the flowers ... gorgeous! Loved the mama and baby bear fishing ! jam packed info. love you guys!
+@mckennacreative6133 thank you! I will be doing an extended video of Katmai for patrons. I have more epic plane views and bear videos to share.
@@oneadVANtureatatime I wish i could afford to be a patron. but im a long time subscriber and huge fan!
Interestingly, you can't burn driftwood in Homer.
This Alaska series has been amazing! (I’m hoping you will be in Quartzite or elsewhere in Arizona this winter! Would love to see you both again)
Thank you! I imagine we will be down in that area again…. Possibly after the first of the year. It’s so hard for us to plan things! We have been having some issues with the van which is one of the main reasons we are still in Anchorage, Alaska! Plus I think this year is the year we want to spend the holidays with family in California😃
Thx for letting me know. I know you have busy lives! I will follow along as always and see what I see. You two are the best!
What an epic trip!
Hey guys. Want to say hello from Florida and to say we love your videos ❤. Dave, can you share the name of your fishing charter? We will be in Homer next year and we are interested in a good charter. Thanks! Safe travels
Very cool. And it was a bucket list item for me to finally meet the three of you.
+@softdorothy that is sweet! Refresh my memory so I can place your face with your name! We met so many amazing people in Alaska….. I was not expecting that!
@@oneadVANtureatatime Ha ha, the old nerd that keeps the map web site of all your videos.
Awesome and inspirational report. Thank you!
Nice! Thanks!
That was just amazing!
+@WandererOfBoundlessLove thank you! It was an amazing experience!
Wow - farmer’s market looks amazing ! What date were you there?
@@oneadVANtureatatime okay. I bet that was cool to experience a 4th of July parade there. Thanks for your reply!
WOW!!!
Very cool!
Omg the Lupins! 🤩
Right! These are Lupines on steroids! Never seen any this big!
Great video! I hope to see a bear on the 2025 calendar. :)
+@kbf-t8n you will! The hard part for me will be deciding which one!
I think the bear with the cub was Grazer. She lost one of her cubs went it went fell off the lip and got injured a male bear.
Fantastic Dave 🎉
+@MannyWC he was a happy boy! He has another great fishing video coming up! This time he fishes a small river trying to catch greyling
@@oneadVANtureatatime awesome! 🥳
New subscriber. I enjoy the channel.
Thanks for coming along on the journey! This is our 6th year doing Vanlife and TH-cam…..Alaska has been one GIANT, EPIC ADVANTURE! Thanks for subbing!
Fantastic adventures. Really surprised that the grizzlies are so unfazed by the humans.
This steve is he the same steve thats travelling with you ?
+@dianep3071 yes! He has been most generous to the entire caravan!!
@@oneadVANtureatatime Yes, he was!!!! Thank you Steve!!!
No roodle😥
I did like . Tried to😂select like but buttons wouldn't work.
You're welcome! Glad my calendar purchase helped in some way.
+@bertkelly7650 thank you! Your calendar purchase is much appreciated especially now! Storm trooper (our van) is sharing a “check engine light” we find out on the 20th if we need a new transmission. We were able to put some money into our emergency car fund with the calendar sales…. So thank you!
