What model Juki is this? Maybe you said but I am not finding it.
No, you don't need a special machine. However, a walking foot, or a needle feed machine, will really make sewing heavy materials easier.

You need one of those quick change buttons for presser feet. Under 10 bucks and saves so much time! Gold star tools has them.
Don't understand why, I have a 1/4 inch welt foot installed and us that for 99% of my projects. only time I change the foot is when I am sewing double welt. Just don't need alot of different feet. Just my two centy

I do alot of automotive upholstery we work with Leather, vinal and some cloth and i now have access to a Juki 341 and 441 cylinder bed machines that I can purchase. I feel a cykinder bed machine will work well in my shop. Do you know which of these two machines would be bett suited to my business. The old singer machine I have is way way to under sized and powered for what I'm doing now. I can't find any information on which machine would be best. I've been told the 441 will not do well on lighter leather and vinal. I Need Your help to help me deside.

I know that each project can be different, what gauge needle do you usually use in your machine? What size thread?
Do you normally color match your thread to your fabric? What do you think about using a mono filament thread?

That's exactly why I've come here. And, guessing that they didn't cover it, why I'm now leaving.
What type of thread do you recommend? Polyester? Cotton? Regular or heavy duty? There are so many choices out there. For sewing clothes my thread choice depends, somewhat on what material I’m sewing. Would we get specialty thread from an upholstery store or just any fabric shop? Thanks again for the good advice.
I always use a bonded polyester thread for about 99% of my jobs. Its strong and has great UV protection. It also depends on the specific job you are doing.

Hello, I do curtains blinds and loose settee covers and I was going to buy a Juki 1181 with a walking foot. Do you think this would be too heavy and would it need much maintenance? Thank you for your time .

Broadway Upholstery School awesome ! I’ve been doing marine upholstery now for almost ten years but I’m trying my hand at some furniture now. I’ve got a chair on the table at the moment and follow your instructions. I’m just not sure if all the supplies I need!

This sewing machine is not a walking foot sewing machine. To do upholstery ans sew upholstery material you need a walking foot sewing machine.
Depends how thick and what materials.
This is not an upholstery sewing machine. To sew upholstery fabric, leather or vinyl you better off with Walking foot sewing machine.
Yes Dan, The machine featured is a good beginners machine and can do most fabric applications without a walking foot , My instructions are mainly for beginners and Journeymen and non commercial, I have another workroom with the BIG machines for heavy work
Not for most residential work with fabric up till 2 years ago I used a 1930's era Singer model 15-31, single needle non walking foot industrial machine. In WW2 this machine was used for alot of parachute work.
