Exploring eerie Counter Strike 1.6 maps

- I was messing around on cs 1.6 today and I decided that I wanted to explore some of my favorite maps for a video. With the game being ancient at this point, the maps gained that liminal feeling you always see with Garry's Mod maps for example. I really hope you enjoyed this different kind of video

you're playing, or rather exploring dust2 with no bots or players
you see badlandschugs in bombsite a, chugging a barrel full of explosive material
badlandschugs looks at you
you run away
badlandschugs burps at you with a volume of 1000 decibels, then he explodes, killing you
game crashes
suddenly, tf2 boots up
then it loads the map badlands
you try to cancel the map loading, but can't
map loaded, trying to get outta here
can't
has no choice but to find some exit
or maybe... power off the computer
you try to power off the computer then restart it
windows is loading like normal
after the windows (not bios) loading screen, black screen for 10 seconds
jumpscared by badlandschugs' burp with a volume of 2000 DECIBELS
speakers broken, computer shuts down automatically
you boot it up again, and go to the bios settings
and in the bios settings you see this:
*BADLANDS CHUGS UNUNTRIUM*
*YOU'RE DEAD*
shut off the computer
but then badlands chugs comes out of the computer and you die before you know it
sounds like a dream i'd have

literally all goldsrc and source maps are scary when you're alone

Because you can't expect it without any fights and gun shots, also they are look like liminal places

All maps "scary" Nah but eerie for sure.
These games in particular all have an irreplaceable "feel" to them, such as GTA San Andreas, CS 1.6, Half Life and so on... The muffled textures and sounds, the ambience, the skyboxes EVERYTHING is unique and i'll never get tired of replaying them, if you get me you get me.
I grew up as a teenager in the beginning to mid 2000s, and I can completely relate to what you said bud. These games are unbelievably nostalgic.

I am really hurt you didn't take the name of Classic Tomb Raider games ( 1-5). The atmosphere in those games is just Different feel. The Art direction, Textures, Colours and Ambience. The new games doesn't even come close
I always loved playing these less popular maps with bots when I was a kid
SAME! I Remember being 6yo and playing de_survivor on a pirate copy of the game with bots
Omg, yea, dude, these times... I loved exploring all of the maps with easy bots and trying to play with different weapon every time i die, till i played with all the weapons. It was sooooo much fun

cs_backalley is not creepy at all to me, it shows how beautiful the night sky is, the lanterns and the place in it
I agree, i'm play it at 5am while listening to music. It's so relaxing.
yeah i kinda liked it back in the day, but i guess what i find creepy is the desolate dark alleys, places where you usually get mugged or killed.
I swear dude, Backalley is creepy when you're playing alone as CT vs 10 T bots (except the part where they all get stuck at the ladder)

Survivor was one of my favorite maps in 1.6. It was sooo cool, pun intended.

for a guy that played counter strike with bot for years, i found these map not eerie at all... i found comforting and somewhat nostalgia, also for those who find counter strike map to be beautiful in its own way ( empty with a lot of ambient ), that's what happens when you embrace the loneliness ( either your daily life or goldsrc in general )
de_survivor is a weird map for me, its comfy for the warm feelings and memories it provides but creepy due to how wide, empty and windy it is.
glad to know im not the only one who thinks cs 1.6 can be creepy at times, everyone talks about cs source being creepy which yes, that game tends to be creepy too at times but 1.6's old dated goldsrc graphics, weird lighting and low quality ambience also has some of that creepiness to it.
Also the wolves stalking you.

The scariest part of playing 747 is when your in a 1v1

Backalley, 747, Survivor, Arabstreets, mansion. These were some of my favourites on old CS.
arabstreets and mansion i always used to play, i got that random arab song that plays stuck in my head from that map.
CS used to be so liminal, dark and gloomy. I've explored these maps in the same manner when i was young so this made me feel very nostalgic. Nowdays, CS is all colorful and weird. Doesnt feel like the same game we grew up loving. Regardless great vid!

Survivor is such a detailed map I love it so much!
I don't think these are scary, but rather comforting where I felt a weird sense of solace everytime I'm alone on these maps.
I loved these maps back in the day.

eerie??? All of this are my childhood, when alone exploring, theres no feeling of "eerieness", theres only my own naivetes to explore the map because i was amaze about video game world.
How about actually being alone in Classic Tomb Raider maps (1-5). They are much more creepy and unsettling IMO

When I first played CS1.5 when i was 4 yrs old, it was scary as FUCK, especially the SFX, like the announcer and some of the ambient sound.
Till many years later I realized it's a mod for Half Life and that explained a lot.

I remember as a kid exploring de_survivor and not figuring out how to add bots so that was all i could do and that was my favorite map because of how large it was, but i was always scared and nervous while playing it. Same goes for cs_747.
When you have been playing Cs 1.6 with bots for years, you stop being afraid of maps and start appreciating them.
I know, I sound monotonous, but it's true, Storm has one of the best atmospheres... when many say it's terrifying.
I love how the vehicles still work in de_survivor

I found cs_havana and cs_siege one of the most offputting maps in terms of "eery" feeling. Siege mostly because of that whole rumor of it being haunted alongside the whole cave portion of the map.
When I was young, I thought Havana was bugged / haunted because it kept changing map layouts every round (I didn't have internet at the time, so I couldn't figure out that it had randomized entrances as per map design).
Would love to see you expand this series though, there some more (imo) eery maps like as_oilrig.

Games with the mid 90s to early 00s aesthetic will always be innately creepy, IMO. Probably just due to the reduced graphical fidelity letting your mind fill in the gaps more easily. 3:36 Backalley is my favorite map of all time. I hate how slept-on it is by most players, even back in the day 6:46 747 is one of my favorites also, and unfortunately I've rarely seen it played in the last 21 years I've played CS; mostly in the WON version

i really dont get how people find these maps creepy alone instead of depressing but then again im used to seeing it from testing maps and all that

When I was a kid, I used to play a pirated version of cs 1.6 which for some reason didn't let me play with bots, so I would go around maps trying to find ghosts and creepy stuff. I never found anything, but to this day I swear I felt observed whenever I'd walk around cs_assault, from the windows, being scared whenever I peeped through the security cameras, scared of seeing something hiding in the shadows, just when I was about to catch it.
I wouldn't feel that way until a couple years later, I was from a humble family, so my computer wasn't very good, hence when playing Gmod 11 I woudln't be able to spawn NPCs, due to the physics engine crashing the game.
I would just walk around, paranoid about every noise I heard... feeling observed... just like those years in cs 1.6
I remember, some time ago, there was myth about ghosts on de_storm, it was obvious false but it gave this map creepy feel
Someone said that the maker of de_siege map killed it self, I was actually got scared cuz it might be haunted but idk

Yeah, some of these can be a tad creepy when you are alone on them. However, I do remember from my childhood when I had CS1.6 with some downloaded maps and stuff, and there was this one map that creeped me out. I don't remember the name, I just know that it was an urban map set around evening. It looked like South American town but I don't remember the details. Now comes the thing that scared me; I remember you could enter one of the apartments, nothing too special at first... However, once you explore it, there's an open window that allows you to snipe from, and next to that window, there's a TV. I have absolutely no idea what was running on it, but man, the sounds it produced... It sounded almost like shrieks of the damned. It was creepy, it was awful and I didn't want to be near that place back when I was a child. I would share the name, but I cannot remember it at all, it has been ages since I have played that map.

Man one of the cool maps that wasn't in the original roster but definitely was very atmospheric was cs_arabstreets. That was very popular in the local computer clubs in Russia. I loved maps that were more atmospheric than usual popular maps. Even cs_office or aztec were much more atmospheric than usual maps. Thing is CSGO had some of them in the roster (backalley was in the very early days of csgo) but subsequently removed. Saving hostages in the plane is such a cool scenario i dont undestand why they didn't bring it to csgo

Man i still remember these maps til now for their eeriness. Since I was a kid i’d spend countless hours just messing around the map, but the maps always scares me to think about it has an ominous vibe into them. Italy is by far the worst in my opinion.

I used to play this in the morning all alone and ofc got a little bit scared eventually when I play the zombies mode, some moment when I finished playing it I just walk and find my mom just to get rid of the scare feeling of playing it

its sad to see all these maps empty and its more fun to play death match mod on these maps

Id suggest making a video about eerie gmod maps, even tho there's been many made, it could probably still be interesting. Most people explained the feeling, instead of walking thru the maps.

I'm not trying to start some kind of creepypasta or something but in cs_backalley, I use to saw some kind of shadow or something everytime all my teammates die. I was that kind of person who would camp at the spawn point because I'm a coward at the time. The enemy team walking around and stuff I can hear their footsteps but I just saw a shadowy figure walking to the spawn point and disappear. Idk if it was something maybe I was delusional at the time I'm not trying to start a creepypasta here maybe it's all just me because of how scared I was getting killed by the enemy team.

play the bots without steam or play server and check your ping by pressing "Tab", or play steam without bots
then, Play all maps with during playing bots without steam or Play all mode during server, bomb defuse in dust2, zombie mode, deathrun, and hide and seek.

Back when games where realistic af and u could actually explore crazy things and interact with the environment. Games back then had a mystic feel to them and was made with passion despite the lack of technology they have today. Now it's all about the quick cash grab...💰
