    In 1988, Mack Trucks Australia made 16 special edition SuperLiner II Bicentennials with the E9-500 V8, Mack 12 speed triple countershaft transmission, Mack front and rear axles, long taper-leaf springs on front and camelback on the rear, Spicer 1810 HD driveshafts and 5842mm (230 inch) wheelbase. The special limited edition models were named after people influential to Australian history, including James Cook, Captain Bligh, Ludwig Leichhardt, Governor Phillip, Ned Kelly, Kingsford Smith, and John Flynn William Hovell.

    Judging from the rubber being layed down by superliner I think it was towing the entire load aswell as the western star.

    I bet they get through some tires, you can see the rubber being left on the road by the first truck very clearly. Nice display of control and torque.

    @MrAlex8Ovechkin first truck has a weight over the back wheels to keep it planted, you can see the wheels spinning. more traction = more towing power

    @davewrathall1985 Pretty sure it's a 3 1/2" pin because that's what they use on roadtrains with more than 2 trailers and most likely big loads like this.

  • @shaned8845
    @shaned8845 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    2 reasons for the high intakes,
    1, Cleaner air - less dust get drawn in, not really applicable here I know, but in off road applications, important
    2, Cooler air - In central OZ, 40-45 degress C is common and the road temps would go 50+ co the theory is the further away the air intakes are from the road the cooler the air, thus denser air gaining modest increase in HP.
    I don't know if any one done the science on it but it's common and most inportantly, its looks good

  • @Bondidog
    @Bondidog 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you watch it is quite obvious that the driving wheels on both trucks are turnng faster than the truck is travelling. It just stands out more on the Mac because of the smoke and rubber on the road.

  • @davewrathall1985
    @davewrathall1985 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Its really hard to imagine- all that weight being pulled by a 2 1/4 inch pin in the second truck's fifth wheel... boggles my mind. TECHNICALLY pulled by 1/2 inch bolt and a cotter pin that holds the jaws in place in the hitch...

    • @andrewking4885
      @andrewking4885 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That 1/2 inch bolt your refering too would be an Allen key bolt ⚡ from memory. Your correct awesome power from the Mack.

    @davewrathall1985 But if you were going to send a 994 from one side of Canada to the other? I've seen 994s like this shifted up to 5,000 kms in Australia.

  • @DarkFox03

    why the axle tires of the mack super liner are smoking?....for the pulling?...
    look that...and the tires leave a rubber mark on the asphalt

    It's a steel pole that they use in Aussie, normally they rarely use steel poles in States.

  • @davewrathall1985
    @davewrathall1985 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @gm16v149 I suppose you are right. where I am, we just close a road and drive the machine there lol, we don't break them down and transport like this.. we have B-train pins, but thats it

  • @Mechknight73
    @Mechknight73 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Markmeblablabla Two reasons 1. the air is cooler than nearer to the ground and 2. there's less dust up there as well

  • @codenamecordon
    @codenamecordon 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    well, actually it makes sense, considering the landscape of Australia. if you don't want to drive around half the continent, you'll go straight through the desert. but, it doesn't really pay off to just deliver like 44 000 kg (about 97k LBS)of goods over such a distance, so they just send a huge-ass Super liner... kinda makes sense, when you think about it...
