  • In this video we look at how to install and setup IPhone Wireless Apple Carplay on the Land Rover Pivi Pro infotainment system. The Pivi pro infotainment is used on many new Land Rover / Range Rover / Jaguar models.
    Here is the link to the instruction sheet I have made

      @@L663 I found the demo easier, as I'm a visual person. As I pick up my Defender in Adelaide next week, I'm guessing I'll be doing this as it has been sitting on a ship for a few weeks or maybe the dealer will take care of it, either way I'm sorted. Thank you for explaining the whole Bluetooth/Wifi thing as well.

    Thank you Simon…you certainly know about helping people and that on screen flowchart is very impressive! Now I have Apple Car Play in the DS but I have not really tried to use it so must see if it works anything like the PIVI system . My car has just been to GS Bristol to have the Haldex and rear differential oils drained, flushed and refilled to cure a rubbery, oily, squelching sound I had on sharp right or left turns..it is now cured completely and I notice that they seem to have uploaded some software improvements. Hence time to check Apple CP again and see if it is relevant to yours. Good work again! Richard😃😃😃😃😃

    Lots of work in that video - thanks! I’ve been using wireless Apple CarPlay since last week, and have found it really useful on the whole. But occasionally, I’ve found my iPhone 13 pro didn’t automatically connect, so I had to use the USB to use Waze etc. Most of the time it works flawlessly. Perhaps it’s just some initial teething glitches…

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine has been pretty good - one time it did not connect - then i forced the connection through Pivi and it would not connect to the internet - I had to turn wifi on and off on the phone to reset it. Does you aut high beam remember its setting ? mine keeps resetting to no auto high beam.

    • @promenteryrobbins
      @promenteryrobbins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@L663 my auto high-beam did keep resetting (to disable), but with the 3.0.0 update, it worked without me having to re select it. One thing that happens with every software update on mine is that the speedo and the odometer revert to mph and mpg after each install. I have a RHD P300 bought in UK in Sep ‘20, but live and drive it in Belgium, so I normally have kmh / km/l set in the units. It’s an easy fix fix to revert the settings. I let JLR know about it - apparently, this is fixed in later models. It’s a very minor glitch and I can live with it, as updates don’t happen very often.

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MD-dj2vz No you do not need a network sim - it will connect to your phone.
      You may not see the hotspot option in Pivi but you should see your phone wifi network on your phone - it will be LR0003435 or similar where the number is your chassis number. You need to pair the bluetooth and follow the instructions. The pivi will send the wifi password to your phone via bluetooth.

    Thank you, Simon. Have you tried using the app on the iPhone to connect to your Dashcam app to download videos since receiving the 3.0 software update and configuring the WI-FI car play? I ask, as I think the auto-connect is causing an issue due to the phone having to disconnect and connect to the dashcam Wi-Fi. During the download of some parking events the auto connect notices the phone and causes it to drop the connection, and then connect to apple car play. I tried switching off my Bluetooth on the phone to see if this would stop the madness, but with mixed results.... I would probably need to try downloading more larger videos to see if apple car play connects again... Also, something to notice, especially if like me you still live in the EU, after the 3.0 software update, the navigation guidance reverted to miles, yards and inches although the speedometer settings remained metric…….

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike - the issues here is one I anticipated / experienced when i first set up the wireless carplay - your phone can only connect to 1 wifi network... so in the car this is either the Pivi for wireless carplay OR the dashcam - it is not able to connect to both !! I think a phone can connect to multiple Bluetooth devices but as Pivi and Dashcam are both Wifi networks it cannot connect to both and problems may arise !

    Thank you for this step by step guide on setting up wireless car play. May I suggest a topic? JLR now allow owners to download map updates. I had to get a high capacity USB stick to download the 23 gb files. For some reason it is not clear what USB port to use on the vehicle ( Discovery 5 MY 2021 ). Perhaps other followers of your channel might find that. I did check with Damian before i pointed people to his video and I did share my video with him before posting and no objections were raised.
      I did see the map update info so i need to look at that.. it should happen automatically for UK maps ( or your region ) but I will update EU maps before heading to France ( to save data use while travelling etc )

I have followed your video (its obviously dead simple when you know how lol) however my car does not have the WiFi hotspot showing on the Connectivity screen ? I am running the most up to date software, everything else works but no Hotspot visible ? I can see the Signal strength and the 4G connection and when my phone is connected that appears also, so I know the car is giving out the WiFi signal - the dealer has no idea ? They need software technicians now, not mechanics !!! can you shed any light ? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Simon, great video as always! Qq as my Defender is not yet build - does it mean JLR has now with OS3.0 enabled WiFi Hotspot on each car? I haven't added the WiFi Hotspot to my build as no one could tell me the 2+ year costs for this and now it is to late to add (got a build date by end Dec 21). If WiFi Hotspot is now avaliable for all, which eSIM will be used?

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well this is an interesting one... all cars are built ( i believe ) with the wifi transmitters in the dash BUT Land Rover can control what data you can access with this so i suspect you will only be able to use the wifi "hotspot" for internal network use (Carplay) not internet. You can setup a hotspot on your phone for the kids in the back of the car and now ( with OS3 ) you have wireless carplay you will have lots of apps on the Pivi screen with data straight from your phone so the hotspot looks less attractive an option now ?

      @@L663 my current XC90 have a WiFi Hotspot with a SIM Slot so that I can choose the data plan and I'm aware about the costs. BTW in one of our older videos you showed that JLR provides in some countries the middle console with a nano SIM slot (which might bypass the eSim). Did you got any feedback on that? Greetings to you in Israel ! I know that some regions do not support car play at all - due to some license issues and it may be the same with the hotspot. I am guessing you have the nano sim in the dash ? does your carplay work with one of the USB dongles i have reviewed before ? It may be that Land Rover have overlooked the wifi setting for regions without the esim ? One thing you can try is see if you can see the car Wifi network on your phone ? Hi Simon
    I thought your video was the answer to my problems I was waiting for.
    I downloaded 3.0.0 couple of days ago. Followed your instructions to the letter, however I don’t get Hotspot/Wireless, only Wireless. When I go to Wi-fi on my phone, it’s asking for a password. I don’t have a password. Can you help?

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats fine - you just need the wireless option.
      The password for the wifi is shared by the bluetooth pairing - you do not need to enter it.
      Main thing is to check you have the wifi network for you car visible on your phone.
      Try and start again - delete the phone from Pivi and delete the wifi network from your phone ( as you did not enter password it is probably not saved )
      Let me know how you get on and where you get stuck following my instructions
      Are you on iphone or android ?

      Thanks very much - based in the UK - South West - I made an error on my version it’s actually 2.1.6A.
      Interestingly I am missing the mobile hotspot option and the weather apps as well in the car. Done system resets and hard resets makes no different. Defiantly know the car has these features but still nothing
      Also not sure if the first edition is meant to come with ambient lighting? If it does that options gone bye bye as well! There isn’t much info out there on what is the actual spec for these versions

    Hello, so i received the update OS 3.0 two days ago and I saw the option hotspot/wireless and couple of minutes later this option disappeared. I tried to connect my phone to my car first by WiFi but I cannot see my land rover name on my iphone’s wifi. so how can i connect my apple carplay wirelessly?

    • @L663
      @L663  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK this is a common question.
      The initial connection for the carplay is via bluetooth - this gives the wifi pass code to the phone to logon and communicate with carplay via wifi.
      You should be able to see the wifi network of your car ( normally your car chassis number last part ) on your phone but you cannot log into it as the wifi passcode is secret ! Land Rover do not want you to have this as you have not paid for wifi hotspot.

      After a trip to the big smoke (Norwich) yesterday OS3.0 downloaded. It took three attempts at home to install it which begs the question whether a mobile phone signal is required during installation and not just for downloading. Interestingly the car never used to connect to the strongest signal here (Vodafone) but always favoured O2 but since installing OS3.0 it now uses Vodafone as well which might improve things in future, who knows. BTW what happened to the weather app in Pivi? It seems to have disappeared from my Home Screen and isn’t even available to reinstall.
