Fabulous! Now I have to find a quiet, boring place to sit for half an hour so that I can listen again with full attention. To me, this talk is one of the best talks about human knowledge ever, and deserves to be very widely absorbed and understood. Thank you Dr Liz.
A very important and insightful presentation. In my career, I've worked in the areas of influence and persuasion coaching and training. A useful appreciation is the various forms of information which constitute 'evidence'. So much of recent dietary focused work keeps drilling down to RCT's. Yet we know that in the case of humans, lovely, messy humans, RCT's are honestly not possible, nor should they hold the power as the only form of evidence to be taken on board. Clinical experience is vital!! 24:46 Dr. Fraser gets here in the end -- yeah!!
The problem we have in general is naming things we do. For example, instead of saying "I'm reading studies" we say "I practice Evidence Based Medicine(TM)". And then we just say "I practice EBM", which could as well mean eminence based medicine... We have a good idea, then we name it and then, when practice is invariably corrupted because most people like to say they do things and not really do them correctly, the name is still used as the avatar for high quality. I work in corporate IT, which is the place good ideas go to die. Every good idea becomes The Good Idea(TM), then consultants with no experience in the actual thing start organizing trainings and managers read about it in Industry Magazines and urge their employees who have better understanding of the idea to take these trainings and follow The Standards and then it only results in more meetings and red tape and the quality gets worse. But when you criticise, they'll claim that you just don't understand the original idea.
Thank you so much. I'm on a quest to find the reason why MDs and dentists seem to be following some invisible Standard Operating Procedure. It appears that, in the States, the various guidelines provide some shield against claims by the patient of poor care with the consequent legal ramifications, or discipline by the licensing boards including revocation of hard won licenses to practice. At this point, it seems medicine has effectively been turned over to a computer program and the patient is not a variable in the equation. This is both frustrating and wrong!
"Knowing" is a vain goal. Understanding in the moment you are in is power. "Knowing" is a shortcut substituting something you understood then for what you need to understand now. It isn't a virtue, it is a short-cut.
This thought just occurred to me. *What is low CARB eating?* Really just cutting out processed items labeled as ~food. Including soft drinks, chips, anything that has a bar code label. Everything else is gonna be real food to a high degree. *Any* type of real food is gonna be AOK to most of us. Just don't try to live off fruits alone that are high in sugars ...
Not really, loads of whole, plant-based foods, vegetables, grains and fruits included, that won't be AOK for many people, as majority in many countries are not metabolically healthy. Certainly, cutting out the ultra-processed items will have great benefit, but not necessarily will ensure regaining health, especially if one stays relatively high-carb.
I've said the same thing she is explaining here... Most if not all of the studies out there are really about useless *unless* great care is taken in sitting up the ~study *and* then reporting the results ... I have come to this conclusion after listening to these reports \ studies for the past ~5 yrs or so .. -- *You* are your own study. *If* you are fat \ overweight or can't run across the road without great effort or pain, *do you actually need some so-called expert to tell you that your lifestyle is bad?* lol ...
Oh, I'd like to add that IF I ate the way those Australian 'diabetic guidelines' suggested - my CGM would explode, my ketone meter would be very sad, my carb cravings would bedevil me day and night, and I'd be a lost soul again. Fruit? Wholegrains? They HAVE to be kidding! It was my 'healthy wholegrain, fruity, low fat, 'sensible balanced diet' that made me sick!!!
10:00 -- Dr. Fraser uses the term *perspective knowing.* This term seems to be a synonym for the term *common sense.* All the education in the world is about workless without *common sense.* Americans, ESP, seem to have lost all their *common sense* and rely on someone programming a device to tell them how to live and think. lol
Also that's evidence of the fixed irrational beliefs of doctors, that you have to explain that evidence involves the person suffering physically. For evidence, you'd have to listen to the person who is the patient. They do not have any evidence.
Im seeing too many of the low carb/keto/carnivore going down the same route as vegans: absolutisn, hyperbole and cherry picking science. I've just unsubbed from yet another passionate channel that starts their broadcast with 'I believe ...'
Agreed. I can hardly stand to watch most carnnivore channels anymore, even the big name doctors. The lack of a logical structure to their thought is stunning and upsetting. I have unsubscribed but mostly I have been banned for questioning statements. One sad influencer even had the nerve to tell me directly that I should shut up and absorb the information he provides.
You are seeing too many videos with I believe. What would you like to see. The old food pyramid touted again as being the absolute best thing since, ha ha sliced bread? I believe there are people who only believe nothing. If keto and Carnivore are being seen to reverse so many awful conditions then I believe it's worth trying. Let's face it the dietary advice of the last 60 years has turned the world into a globe of fatties and very sick peoples. Keto /Carnivore , Or food pyramid and processed food and calorie counting. Tell me what would you choose?

"I don't know"...... is the beginning of wisdom
The world needs this channel in podcast form. Please and thank you!
Great talk, thank you

No it's been going on since they destroyed traditional medicine.
Danke

Facts are always nuanced with soft science such as nutrition.

Sadly for us, this was going on long before the recent "foods" making health so bad for everyone.
Wheat products and rice and potatoes also need to be cut out, so idk if that's within you bar code paradigm.

Meat kills...Meat kills by its absence!

Good riddance. But what do we do when our clinician is an algorithm and it talks to the chip somewhere inside us.

oh right that's where you were going with that. yeah for sick people too not just diet

Typical, unintelligent troll comments that have nothing to do with the content of the video from someone that can’t spell.
