As Beryl continues to move northward, it is gaining speed after being slowed by the Yucatan landfall. Watch it gain power as it once again becomes a hurricane and moves toward Texas's coastline. It should increase once again to at least a Cat 4 storm by Saturday. This creates woes for south Texas, that now has to find parking space for 2 million vehicles if it hopes to not have them flood damaged! Storm surge is estimated to be about 12-14' along the coast, as much as 8' in cities like Houston and as far north as Austin, water floods are likely due to slower moving moisture filled cloud cover drawn in by Beryl. Unless you have a car storage parking garage, your high dollar cars and trucks are soggy paper weights come Sunday night. Used car dealers move those cars north, my friend! The rain corridor heads due northward through Wichita Falls, Texas, straight for Oklahoma City and beyond to Kansas... hope you like rain folks, you'll see 3 days of it as far north as Topeka, Kansas and afterwards into Missouri. This should mitigate the heat dome and split the US into cool and hot for the full duration of July, great news for farmers and outdoors campers, as river surges should bring cool fresh water loading lakes and rivers. Thanks, Beryl...

in fter going through Flamy experience with hurricanes, I would tend to predict that Beryl strengthens back to cat 4 or cat 5 while in the Gulf.We saw katrina regain strength afast of Texaster going across fla. then into the Gulf it became a category 5 and jogged to the east as it was making landfall in Bay St. Louis, Ms. I sure hope i am wrong. This one has been going for a week and I don't see it slowing down til it hits the coa.st of texas

This hurricane has surprised us all, she formed when the Atlantic was supposed to be closed to development, strengthened to a Cat 5 when models suggested Cat 1 or 2, and stayed strong through a field of heavy wind shear. So don't expect Beryl to weaken all that much, I think she'll emerge out over the Gulf as a Cat 1 or strong TS and then she'll head north! All of the Texas coast should keep an eye on her and prepare! Southwest Louisiana too.

I live near Galveston. And have lived in the area my whole life 61 years. It has always been a guessing game regarding landfall. A “cone of certainty” is the best meteorologists can do. Given the high pressure system moving across the midwest, I don’t think the eye of the storm can move as far north as Galveston. Most likely will continue it’s track to the border area. Perhaps a slight turn to the north with some intensification as it travels across the Gulf and nears the shoreline. That puts Corpus Christi in the north side which is the “dirty” side with the greatest winds and rain. If I were you, right now I would prepare to hunker down with necessities for a week…non-perishable food, water, batteries, full tank of gas in car, necessary medications, etc. spend this time doing that. Also, consider how you might need to secure your home from wind damage and researching places you can to stay if you need to evacuate i.e., make hotel reservations, learn where shelters will be setup, making plans for pets. If you live in an area vulnerable to storm surge or flooding, definitely consider evacuating inland. You don’t have to be in the eye of the storm to lose power and water, experience wind damage or flooding. I lived 50 miles inland when Ike impacted Galveston. Lost power for a week and had damage from falling tree limbs and flying debris. With Harvey, I was trapped by flood water for 3 days. And then there are the tornados hurricanes create. Ugh. Not big ones like the midwest has that take out entire neighborhoods and towns, but they can cause damage to isolated areas nonetheless, and you never know where or when they will drop out of the sky. My motto is prepare early and for the worst while waiting for more info. Better to be safe than sorry. Right now, that is really all we can do. Hope that helps.
