I bought the extender that has 2 monitors but only one of them seems to be connecting.

That sounds like a monitor setting on your laptop. You can usually tell it to display on two monitors by using the fn (function) buttons, but there may be some additional software display settings you need to set up first. My Windows 10 machine seemed to find it right away...
