I think a lot of us are like Alphys. From our social backgrounds to the things we are passionate about... and that is what makes the Undertale community so great. We're here to support each other, and we've all bonded over an amazing game. Thanks for being so supportive everyone. Over the course of all my videos and my time spent on Tumblr, I've seen a lot of caring people. When I recently was able to attend a large Undertale gathering, I was blown away at how supportive everyone was. Most of the people who were not normally comfortable in social situations were able to be themselves, and there was smiling across the room. It was one of the most welcoming experiences I've had in a while.
Depression and social anxiety are things a lot of us deal with, but just know there will be happiness in your future. Depression is all encompassing, and once it takes a hold of you, it is hard to see past it let alone cry out for help. I know in the video I mentioned to seek out and talk to someone, but this is usually the hardest part. My best advice is to make a promise to yourself to force yourself to do it though. It is going to feel pointless, and you will lack the motivation to do so, but it will make all the difference. For those of you on the other side of the spectrum, reach out to people who you may see struggling. Go sit with the person who sits alone at lunch. Give them the time of day that someone else may have never done. Collectively depression is easier to tackle, although its roots can come from multiple things. Most of the time it comes from loneliness though. By giving a few minutes of your day, you could make a difference in someone’s life. Whether you are depressed now, or are familiar with the pains of it, the power is in our hands to make a difference. So please… Push against the pain, or reach through it to pull someone out. Because it all starts with us.

I think u should do a episode about what happen to sans in the genocide route
I definitely feel like Alphys was possibly going to take her own life, it is hinted at quite a lot, even by herself. Perhaps Undyne actually saved her from doing it the first time due to just being at the right place at the right time, and was the friend she needed.
And the player definitely contributes a lot. Of all the characters I feel like alphys is the one you can change the most, for better or for worse depending on your actions, which is interesting with her being the only character you can never physically harm or spare yourself.
+lightsen It's weird how you basically save her by doing the best ending, but also by doing the close-to-worst ending, where she learns to be a better person for others.
feargm yeah, she sorta becomes a hero as undyne says alphys would be taking everyone somewhere safe, and evacuating hotland.
feargm You know you're missing the point of Chara, right? You did or watched the Genocide run. You, as the player, are Chara, because you wanted this.
TheMAMAnimations we cant be chara as chara kills us in the end, the beginning we name the fallen child, we influence frisk, chara influences frisk also. We murder everyone, and right at the end chara is awakened to a point of leaving the body of frisk and killing us and the world.
lightsen Supposidly the game intends for you to put your name as the Fallen child, Chara simply being the default name.
Chara doesn't kill you but destroys the world, so they're basically finishing what you started. Whether or not you choose to disobey them they'd have too much power by then, because you were out of control, just like Chara. Chara is the feeling of greed, attack, defense, "love", etc, that you get, they're the personafication of the person you've become.
The game could have substituted Chara for a mirror pointing at the fourth wall and it'd be the same.
She suicided.

There is a neutral ending where Alphys calls you instead of sans.

To get that ending, you must kill every main character except Muffet
Actually it's just if you kill all the main characters but abandon the genocide route. Muffet doesn't really change the story any more than any other monster does.
Or when you spare toriel then befriend papyrus, undyne, and alphys, sans called you. then papyrus, undyne, and alphys interrupt the conversation.
Alphys evacuated everyone, according to When Undyne the Undying was dying. (Wow that sounds weird).

Alphys didn't see the battle with Undyne, so she doesn't know what to do
I have a few clues for Alphys's Suicide:
1: Alphys wanted to do something cowardly
2: if you only kill mtt and Noone else, Undyne said you killed her, but she is an unfightable character
3: she also says that she (Undyne) couldn't save her (Alphys)
4: in the same ending, Papyrus said that Alphys dissapeared
5: in some other endings Mtt said that Alphys is nowhere around, he clearly knows the true lab and the Underground isn't that big
6. Alphys already stood at the abyss once (most likely through Suicidal reasons) and she has a big burden to carry.
So, that's why I think she really killed herself.
In a genocide you can fight alphys

I have noticed that Napstablook and Alphys are pretty much of display of depressed teenagers who are enjoying listening to music, hiding and watching videos, not liking life... It's so... Obvious Toby tried to show how much younger people care about their friends and family...

I thought of this because on the genocide route, when u are killing undyne she says "alphys is watching. If anything went wrong, she would evacuate and tell asgore to collect the humans soul's. (...)"
But even with the evacuation, she never told asgore. When u meet him he seems unprepared and u kill him off guard. Maybe in that ending she really killed herself after evacuating some people.
I doubt so, because if you abandon the ending in hotland you get her on the phone (search for "queen alphys ending" on youtube)
And anyway, the explanation is also told by Mettaton.
She helped people to flee, and charged Mettaton to inform Asgore that he have to absorb the human souls.
And he didn't did it because he wanted to take this by his own hand, like he does in neutral and pacifist in fact (not for the same reasons though).
On a Neutral Route that starts off as a Genocide Route, Alphys will get on the phone and say she found a new purpose in keeping the evacuees safe from you.
If he'd absorb the souls, the genocide wouldn't suceed

The wiki is NOT evidence. It's fan-made, and is no more accurate than a fan comic. Unless you can show a NON-fanmade citation or source, this is literally just misinformation.
The wiki can't be an evidence for something that don't have evidence in the game.
About the ending where you abandon the genocide halfway in hotland, it's no proof that in other endings she didn't commit suicide, just read what she says.
How she see herself completely changed because by helping everyone to flee, they all seen her as a hero because of that (even though they seen what she did, indicating that they hide in the true lab), so it's a complete crush of the image that Alphys have of herself, she changed a lot since Undyne begged her to help everyone to hide.
In other endings, there's not all this support that she got ; More the contrary, she keep receiving daily more and more angry letters from the families of the monsters she have in the true lab that still didn't went home or had their funerals.
I've always found Alphys the most human character in Undertale, she cares for everyone more than herself and puts the monster society as her first priority. Alphys' life was really limited because of her burdens and mistakes she could not let go, So if you ever feel like shit, always remember that there is a light waiting by the tunnel, only if you break those chains, with someone you love.

@Darkalms Humans are just as complicated as the monsters in Undertale. Humanity doesn't necessarily correlate with selfishness, it's just all over the place, but so is compassion.

I got the feeling she was planning to commit suicide on that waterfall and undyne changed her mind, either intentionally or not, and that's why alphys grew to like undyne
I think that in some endings Alphys decided to jump to the abyss and in others she didn't and ran away instead. I feel like she did end her life in Mettaton ending, Undyne ending and Papyrus ending. She stayed in the ending in which you spared only one random encounter and in one in which you did the Undyne x Alphys sidequest but skipped the true lab. In rest she ran away to some other parts of underground.
Alphys commits suicide in all of the endings where Undyne an/or Mettaton die (excluding Genocide and the Alphys Ending, where they're both dead but Alphys doesn't die)
In one of the endings, Sans or Papyrus talks about how Undyne keeps muttering to herself about “how she couldn’t save her”, and I think that that is a talking point for this
Alphys is a truly satisfying and fascinating character. She deserves so much more credit.

But it's the most hardest run
the plot of undertale involves timelines so there's no real canon ending, if a player ever got a ending in one timeline, it can't be fixed ever. It's sad, but that's what makes the game so interesting

it kinda irks me how everyone keeps labeling alphys as depressed because she exhibits a lot more traits of anxiety disorders than depression. Feeling like you're not good enough. constant worrying and fear. Thinking everyone hates you and having trouble communicating and connecting in real life. alphys is most definitely the face of anxiety. (PS if anyone's looking for more characters accurately portraying anxiety Wilfred is an excellent place to start)

i know this comment is a year old but depression and anxiety so often go together that it’s possible she could have both. they both feed off each other and make sense with her character, feeling deep guilt and regret and self loathing (a few depression symptoms) as well as trouble talking to people, frequently lying due to being worried what people will think if they knew the truth, stuttering, etc (some anxiety symptoms) are all a part of alphys
That’s me in a nutshell
75% people did neutral (because they played without knowing anything at all)
15% people did genocide (because most (not all) games, you have to kill your enemies)
10% people did pacifist (because they either saw the trailer or saw someone play it)

I have been suffering multiple depressions and anxieties for the past 3 years living with my uncle since I am afraid of every action I do in this household. At one point, I thought of ending myself to not be a burden to myself and others.
But then, I started sharing my situation more to my mom and my girlfriend (thank you Sara) and I began to feel better. Even though I still clash with my uncle from time to time, it has got better since then.
Swanky is correct. If you're in a situation like Alphys or me and can't take it anymore, go find someone you trust the most to vent it all out. Don't be afraid that the person you vent to would feel uncomfortable. If they are willing to listen, they will listen and (if possible) give you advices to get you through.

Yeah but the problem is when the depression become the final stage of depression. Is when you become deaf and blind cause if you try to help them they will live running away. And the worst os when you start getting schizophrenic(when you think everyone is you enemy and you have no friend) and even you showing it to them they will say "Fuck you" and start running away.
It's really hard to try and sometimes you can not be able to help them.
Some of them will start seeing this as a "truth" and don't look for help cause to them they will think "the life is sad and that's the truth!".
It's hard to talk to someone with depression and even more harder if this person is im the final stage.
If you guys have depression or think that you have please, go look for help while you guys still have control of your mind.

The fact that Alphys is suicidal and have very low self esteem really reminds me of my girlfriend who is as suicidal as her. She would always call herself stupid or useless when she mess something up and whenever she doesn't understand school work and ask me for guidance and she still doesn't get it after I explained it, she would be hard on herself and apologise to me. It really is depressing that some people have this kind of behaviour and I think we should do our best to help and support those who are feeling blue instead of criticising them

I'd love to see a theory on Gaster (I know you've covered most of this) but the theories on the mysterious grey pixels that can be found around the game, and also the asterisk found on all characters text APART FROM Papyrus. now if it was sans I'd get it, but its pretty funny that in 90% of the sans and Gaster theories papyrus always destroys them for just existing, I love it.
A who is papyrus video would be awesome, he is my favourite ;) and I think more mysterious when it comes to his origins than the rest of the cast. At least sans seems to know where he is from.

+Iftach Katani - Someone else mentioned this too. I plan on revisiting them in the future, but if you could explain this a bit more it might help me figure out what to avoid doing.
+SwankyBox that yellow "box" on your logo looks really similar to youtube's ad symbol. It's really well done and professional looking with that faded white with the title and logo on top giving an artificial feel. That's all I could think of.

I first got the neutral ending but I don't know why. I guess I missed something, but the game gave me a chance to go back and talk to Alphys and all that. Before her lab was locked so I couldn't go talk to her before ending the game the first time. I could relate to Alphys alot, I'm a huge nerd and have struggled with self esteem too. I can relate to Sans too after watching the genocide run (struggling with depression and lack of motivation due to knowing certain things).
oh I realize now, I didn't go to the garbage place, that's why. Not until they told me when I tried again, lol.
In the game, you always get a neutral ending first. If you do Pacifist completely, you will get the neutral ending and the game will allow you to just walk back to see Alphys.
I thought I did something wrong too because I got neutral ending when Flowey told me to not kill anyone the next play through
Well, this is gonna get lost in the comments, and I'm sure almost no one scrolls very far through the comments, but I just want to say... I hide everything related to Undertale and info about the game I want to make myself from my parents, from the undertale game files on my computer, to who are the enemies in my game. It feels easier to tell on the internet, beacuse no one knows you in person, and they don't know where you live. It just feels much safer to say it all there instead of in real life to people you know.

I think Alphys killed herself because in the true pasifist (sorry if misspelled it) she said that she would've run away and do something 'cowardly' with someone like me struggling with suicidal thoughts it is proof that she took her own life in the nutrural route

I was once where swanky is talking about at the end of the video, I watch this then and believed that there was no light but I did find it after a while and now I am happy. For all those people out there like that don't give up stay determined for all those you love even if they are gone, like I did.
Here's my theory for Alphys's disappearance: In the True Lab, she left a note saying that she stays in the dump, sifting through trash, saying "it's [her] element". Now, remember that when the determination was injected into the other monsters, they sorta melted and fused together into each other to form the Amalgamates. From this, I believe that Alphys injected herself with determination in the dump, melted into a pile, and became her element: trash, reflecting her mental state, but being too afraid to actually kill herself by going over the falls. This would be why Mettaton couldn't find her: he likely wouldn't have thought Alphys was trash (or didn't know anything about the determination or its effects), Alphys would be easily able to hide away in the dump forever, and no one would be any the wiser.

This is because there are far more important people out there, famous TH-camrs like even Swankybox that hang out with other famous youtubers, and just kinda brush us off. So, what are we?

Numbers. Comments on their videos. Likes for their charts. We are but a statistic. The more that subscriber number goes up, the more they become and less we become.
But nobody will acknowledge it.
Who knows, maybe we should all meet the fate of Alphys during the Mettaton ending.
+The Gamer Guy 500 - Unfortunately TH-cam works against content creators in that same light. You may not see all my responses on things, but I do go through the comments daily. When it comes down to it though, I'm no different than anyone else. Sure I may have a following, but a few months ago I didn't. I'm still the same person I was back then, and really will try my best to not change as time goes on. I think seeing TH-camrs that I liked to watch change over time instilled a response in me to not be like them, so I'm hoping I can stay true to my word.
Outside of being a user on TH-cam you are a person though. You aren't just a number. You have your own thoughts, your own interests, and your own story. I may be SwankyBox online, but there's a person behind this screen as well, so I've often shared the same views and thoughts that you probably have. Followings don't really matter when it comes down to it. It's an added bonus if it happens, and while I appreciate it, I'm still doing this because I love to do it. If I didn't love making these videos, this channel probably would have disappeared a while ago. So in regards to that, I always want to empower people to chase their own dreams as well. If you shoulder the hero mentality, and that is, you do what you do because you feel it is right and it doesn't matter who knows you did it, than you can't really go wrong if what you do is pure enjoyment.
Sorry for the bit of a tangent, but all those thoughts just kind of poured out based on your comment. Please check out my Ohayocon 2016 video to see a bit more where I'm coming from. I've also never really hung out with another TH-camr, and 99% of my efforts to reach out to anyone in the space has ended up with them giving me the cold shoulder and never responding back. It's pretty unfortunate, so I can't blame you for adopting this view on things.
Thank you for at least understanding, and I appreciate that you actually care about your fans, but sometimes I feel like that's all we are. Fans. Nothing more. It's like Flowey's Kill Or Be Killed, it's not exactly wrong, but it's not right either I guess.
+The Gamer Guy 500 - I also don't think that is negative either though. Being a fan means that you like something and that you find it generally interesting. If you get enjoyment out of someone who makes videos, artwork, or games, than there isn't anything to feel bad about. It's just one of the many things that you may find enjoyable. On the flip side of things, knowing someone finds my videos enjoyable warms my heart. I'm glad that someone finds my content worth watching, and hearing that someone thinks what I do is cool really makes me feel good. It also gives me the power to keep producing more stuff. But even without that support, I still think I would do it because it is fun for me. It gives me a chance to relive my childhood, which is something a lot of people often take for granted until they get older. So in that regards, knowing that my videos resonate with other people, makes me feel validated and not alone, because I discovered that I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

I feel as if I’m a mix of Papyrus, Napstablook, and Alphys. If I had to choose who I relate to the most though, it’d definitely be her.
Personally, I think that Alphys was one of the most underrated characters. She reflected a lot of the traits that a younger audience can identify with (our love of technology, awkwardness, anxiety, depression, problems with self confidence)..(and love of anime lmao)
Even though alot of people can find similarities themselves with Sans's jokes, toriel's caring nature, frisk's determination, papyrus's cooking (which probably isn't that great haha), I think we all related with alphys at some point in our lives.

It isn’t confirmed by Toby Fox if Alphys committed suicide, but it is highly implied that she did. Also fun fact: The only neutral ending where Alphys doesn’t disappear is if you start a genoicde route, but stop it after Undyne the Undying, then she becomes king

I think there are several possibilities to that special lication at the river: you stated thats where she first met Undyne. Maybe that first time was when Alphys was going to jump. Or, as you also said, the thrill of the unknown. She might have decided to never expire it to keep that thrill, to always wonder. Finally, you said withdrawing from technology and moving, etc, etc. That cabin you see in a clearing in the woods in the background. Could that be a possibility? (Yes all of these are flawed)
Poor alphys... she is one of my favorite characters, and i knew she had anexiety and social interacrion issues... when her best friend died, she must have been devestated from that. I'm feeling bad for her. I don't want her to feel bad😩

After the Mettaton fight, Alphys is noticeably upset, whether you spare him and he is unresponsive, or if you kill him, even though he kind of treats her like dirt. That is sad to me. It would have been nice if he had appreciated her more, as he states in the "King Mettaton ending. Maybe if had, things would have gone better for her.
What about that ending where everyone's dead and alphys ends up being the ruler

i really dont know if you know this but when you have done the pasifist route and just finished the fight with asriel and you go to snowdin and talk to the grizzly bear he will tell you that alphys confessed what she had done and tells you the queen had fired her and every amalgamate is back with their family maybe in the neutral endings the queen never finds out and alphys just goes insane? i dont know i hope that helps
I think all that depression got over her from gaster’s determination experiment and that since she’s lying that it looks like nobody can trust her, she went to the true lab and quickly went to the void to move on. Sans on the other hand doesn’t mention where alphys is at, because they probably made a promise to not tell no one since hey helped on the determination experiment. This is my theaory

I think she committed die. When you meet her if you use context clues that she has depression and suicidal. And her face is mostly either looking down, looking away, or anxious. I'm in the middle of a pacifist so idk about the true lab. Anyway, I've done 2 neutral runs and both I got the mettaton ending and he says that she dissappeard and mettaton cared then built a statue because he thought she committed die also. And she was kinda like the random person nobody pays a lot of attention to but not no attention. Just in the middle. And maybe she even found a soul and absorbed it and became a God but then couldn't take the power and also committed die.
Alphys def did the first thing us and Undyne kept her going even in the genocide run she was stopping us from hurting any other people because of Undyne. When Undyne died and we left I'm sure she did it even the best netrual she still held the guilt of the true lab so i feel mostly if we didn't do pasfict she would of never got over that guilt so very possible she took her life
