DesertX preparation for big adventures. High fender kit, foot pegs upgrade, bash plate choice.

  • The second part of DesertX preparation for adventures. A mistake with the bash plate choice. I know I've had to do much better research about it, but still, I could not believe someone would sell a bash plate that could not be mounted separately like a stand-alone unit. Hmm, my bad I guess.

You need a quite a few more brackets to install the bash plate. You probably will need to replace your current engine guards. Outback Motortek makes good stuff but for the DDX there are just too many brackets and bolts to attach. I know because I just installed their Protection Combo on my DDX. I would not install if I had to do it over again, and I am a big fan of their stuff.

I found that out after I watched the Installation video. What bugs me the most is, that I was contacted by them and asked about more money if I wanna have it shipped to me cause of the higher shipping cost than they thought. I asked them if is it compatible with the Heed crash bars and the answer was that they were not sure about it (even though it's obvious it can't be mounted and they know about it), but they never mentioned that it can't be mounted as a stand-alone unit, cause you are not getting the mounting brackets and all system must be purchased. Now I asked them if I can get the mounting brackets for mounting it. They said that I was the first person who bought just the bash plate and now they will see if I can get just the brackets. Now I wonder If I would order just the crash bars are they coming with the mounting brackets? I think that is a very misleading and shady tactic of selling your own product...

@@Zerotys_ADV Darn... that is really very heavy... looks like I have a bash plate I could make a shuffle from :D :D Not even sure what to do, cause, I did not get an answer from the manufacturers, can I get the brackets for mounting, and don't even know do I want them anymore. Thanks for this very valuable info!

Hello, which spring rate have you choose ? I'm 100kg + 10kg rider equipment + 20kg equipment - I'm not sure which one to take.

    • @nemoltu

Hi there, I went for a 9.8 Kg/mm rated one. According to the website calculator, that one is good for drivers up to 115 kg, and my weight is 95kg, so that leaves some room for my luggage and riding gear. It could be a little undersprung, but another step up could be too much. I should have asked them to calculate for me, cause there are springs up to 17.9 kg/mm rate, and only god knows how much the rider should weigh for this spring. I might not be a very good help, cause I have not ridden a bike with the new setup yet and didn't even adjust the sag, but with the stock one I was getting a really bad rear wobble at higher speeds and I hope that it will be gone now,. I'm gonna do that and make a video about it as soon as I will have a free day in the garage. I think your best bet would be to contact the sellers. I did buy through Teknikmotorsport from Australia.
I wrote the email to Eibach so maybe a little too late for me, but I hope they will respond and I will update you over here, so please check back next week.

@@nemoltuAmazing, thank you. I discussed with the guys from Touratech who are proposing Tractive suspensions and for me they are saying 90N/mm should be good. I do not know haw to do the conversion to kg/mm. However I should definitely go with higher spring rate
      thank you.

@@rideforadv I calculated mine into N/mm and it is 96 and that calculates to the rider weight of 116 kg. So we are close. I am just wondering, did they calculate your gear and everything? Not sure if Tractive and Eibach springs are rated the same, but I suggest you wait a little bit and Eibach will answer my question, cause I asked about the spring rate with a total rider and gear weight of 120 kg. Really keen to find out the answer from them. But either way thanks for the heads up, now I feel like I've made a good choice. Because of my videos, I travel with a little more gear than you, I assume.

@@nemoltuThank you for details. They have calculated with total rider 110kg + an average of 10kg of gear with max to 25kg
it sounds we are not that far from the truth.
I'm looking forward to hear their answer.

@@rideforadv Well, so the answer was "Ask the motorcycle shop and they will guide you the correct way". That means we should go with our choices, which should work just fine.

Hey nemo are you still running your dx without any engine remapping after your decat??
My exhaust has started to get a brown spot in the exhaust after the decat!!😮

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi, Martin, yes I do and I would assume that is expected, cause now we have a direct exhaust pipe that could shoot flames almost straight. I have a DNR air filter in my DDX, so that could be some difference between our bikes though. My exhaust is also not that shiny anymore after last year's trip. I am planning to do the remap, but not yet, cause my air filtering system or even exhaust pipe might still change. The custom remap with the Dyno is not that cheap, I've got pricing for 650 Euros so not that keen to do it twice.
