Had one from new until a drunk didn't see me at a stop light and totalled it, was a great bike with shaft drive. Couriers used them in the UK and got massive miles from that motor.

    • @stephenloflin4772
      @stephenloflin4772 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I would imagine with proper maintenance you could get several hundred thousand miles out of these motors.

I had an '82 silver wing. Which is basically the same thing. Same thing happened to me. Accept It was an old guy changing lanes without looking and he knocked me off the road.

That's how a cx500 is supposed to sound. So smooth, great vtwin. I've ridden my cx500 for 19 years. It has 65,000 miles and still runs great. How cool they thought of the twist of the twin. It's a classic and mine sure doesn't ride like a 40 year old bike.

"They say you meet the nicest people on a Honda, you certainly meet the happiest ones because they're usually cruising around on their bike all day without working on it."
You said it, Ken. No truer words have been spoken.

@@Lee950Brim Yes and no but mostly yes, i got a Custom for $1000 and did it up as a cafe racer... everything is original with the exception of a new seat and some flipped clubman handlebars. The spirit of originality is still there and with only those two things and new paint damn it turns heads... I never mod a bike or car so bad that it cant be reverted back for the next person. Keep the mods minimal and keep them tasteful is what i always say

Rode one of these about 28 years ago I was 19 in my home land Australia. It was exactly like this one but it was black with gold pin striping. And it was called a CX 500 SHADOW. Beautiful riding motorcycle so comfortable and plenty of performance for a tourer. Very rare bikes now and pricey. God bless.

Bought a used but excellent condition 79 Deluxe rode the hell out of it right up until a 6 point buck ran into the left side of me at 5am on my way to work.
I paid 600 for it and a cycle salvager paid me 250 for it.
    I loved that bike.
It was comfortable easy on fuel and with some pirellis it carved corners respectively.
Very easy to perform maintenace on it.
A true gem in the world of two wheelers.

My dad has one of these sitting in his garage for probably around 20 years now. It is still in great shape and has the big windjammer faring on it. It would need to be gone through to get running, a battery and whatever else might pop up during a revival. Any ideas what its worth as it sits or running if we decided to revive it?

Step right in it's around the back. Just a half mile from the rail road tracks. I had one of those then made a step down to a cb650 which could vibrate the fillings out of your head. Well actually it vibrated the stitches out of my mouth from wisdom tooth surgery(2 teeth) on a ride from just south of Worcester to Cape Cod. What a shitty weekend that was

I rode CX and GL 500's in the late 70' and early 80's. We called them Jap Guzzi's back then. The only thing I didn't like about them is all power and torque was in the higher RPM range. You really needed to run them full on to make full power. Otherwise they were a nice easy ride especially when fitted out with Craig Vetter touring gear consisting of a Windjammer fairing, bag's, and trunk.

Picked one up after being hit by some kid texting and driving as soon as my foot healed enough for me to shift again, just grabbed the first bike I found on marketplace to get back on the road until I could find something I liked more but honestly it's kind of an endearing little guy, 50hp is a little rough sometimes, but I'm consistently surprised by how zippy it is for how bulky the engine looks. Low center of gravity is real nice!

The engineering of that engine was quite extraordinary. I can only imagine the geniuses that have worked for Honda over the years. That goes for all 4 of those Japanese companies for that matter.
