I have a 1982 Custom in my shed. Parked it 20 years ago after it blew the second alternator. Engine needs to be split to replace it . May haul it out this winter to restore...
Hi, I was shocked to see my old CX 500 for sale on your channel recently, although the video was a year old, It was nice to have the condition appreciated but it was in better condition when I sold her. It appears to have had added a pair of side boxes and top box which were not with it when I sold it, I had it for over 15 years and only put about 5000 miles on it from 19000 when I bought it. Did it sell to somebody in Ireland or has it come back to the uk ? Great to see it and thanks again.
I used to have a cx500 for dispatching and had lovely ride on the bike, they do have a common faults with the alternator and the water pump but easy to fix, out of 10 I'll give it 8.5 which is good.
Honda stopped production due to people buying them instead of Goldwing motorcycles. Honda wanted to sell the higher priced Goldwings with higher profit margin. At the time you could purchase a Silverwing GL500 in full factory touring gear with a large fairing along with bag's and trunk. You could build your own light touring bike here in the USA with a Craig Vetter Windjammer fairing, bag's, and trunk. A CX500 fitted out with that touring gear was an exceptional value when compared to a Goldwing and with a national speed limit of 55 MPH you simply didn't need the very heavy and expensive Goldwing motorcycle for long distance touring. The result was Honda dropping the CX and GL line of Motorcycles that were competing with their their own Touring motorcycle sales. The Craig Vetter touring gear was wind tunnel designed and made of ABS making it aerodynamic and light. Adding it to a motorcycle actually improved it's performance and fuel economy. As long as you were moving faster than 30 Miles per hour you would remain dry in even heavy rain fall. The bag's and trunk were designed to prevent cold air and rain from coming up behind your back as well.
Used to take mine to Chasbikes down in Greenwich, that place specialised in CX500 servicing. This and the VT500 were a great class of bike which simply no longer exists. Shaft-driven middleweight V-twin.
I just bought one and honestly I'm in love. It's not the best bike I've ever owned but it's the one I like the most, I don't know why. FWIW they're pretty easy to find on Marketplace in good running condition for about $2000 or less. I paid a bit under $1000 on mine, put another few hundred bucks into it and it's beautiful now and runs down the expressway at 80 MPH all day long. I've got a Tracer 900 that's in every way a better bike but I only seem to want to ride the CX.
I am old. CX500 is retro. Had one, a 1981 model, from 1987 to 1993. Went to West Germany and Denmark with it in 1988. (I am from Finland)
1979 rode my cx500 across Hertford -France- Switzerland -Italy- Austria-Germany .3000 miles in 3 weeks. Smooth ride shaft drive . Lovely bike.
Had 1 for 10 yrs luvely bike done my own servicing could do vavle adjustments in 20mins very easy
I had the CX500 made in 1979, same color as yours. Never ever had a big with such a nice sound with the original exhaust!
Had a black one up in Derry in the early 80s. Great bike.

They had cam chain problems, its at the back of the engine, and needed to be removed.
I saw cx500, I like the video. What a great bike shame they never continued the cx range
