    I bought an 84 Mack R686 from the Pickles Auctions in Thurgood back in September last year. I drove it back to Vic and it runs like a Rolls Royce. Found it had the full service history of everything that had been done to it from day one. In awesome condition at 160,000 ks and paid 25 gs for it. Tipper body model with a pintle that has glad hands.. Drove beautifully down the road. Even drove it back to NSW the following month as I bought a Haulmark 8T dog trailer and towed that back with the Mack. Mainly as you are not allowed to change air fitting etc. But since then I have fitted PBR and Duo coupling options for towing as well. She cruised at 95 ks nicely and has tremendous torque power. Both the truck and trailer were in superb condition. A lot of people are scared to purchase from the auction but I have had no issues with both units. The Mack drops air but I put isolation valves on the outlets on the main air tank and fitted a Sherpa 24 Volt compressor inside the tool box which takes about 5 minutes to top up the tank if she doesnt start first pop. I have also made adaptors up from jamec, nitto, PBR etc to utilise other air top up if I need to fill the air if she has sat for a while. The 6 wheel drive is unstoppable. I am looking forward to see another beast on the tube.

    Might of been a coincidence but i seen a truck like yours on the back of a truck heading into Adelaide the other day. Thought nah wouldnt be yours as you were driving yours over but it now makes sense.

    If you take the loader to where your tipping and push the stones up you would be able to tip alot more if the loads are kept pushed up

    Time to get some stainless water bottles like klean kanteen as plastic bottles are such a waste. Anyhow good that everyone is keeping busy.

    Hi John. When does it become cost effective to switch to autonomous tractors? What are the barriers to implementing autonomous tractors?

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The future will tell. The switch to autonomous in my opinion will be around 10-15 years. To do it we will be reducing the size or a bars, sprayers and spreaders and have a "swarm" of them to do the job that one tractor and operator would do.
      It will definitely be an interesting time seeing something like this implemented but will be very exciting as well. Provided the costs work!

    Never been a fan of mack with air starter especially when older air leaks are a pain and when on gravel roads, had a rock break an air line a long way from the farm

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yer will be a learning experience for us as we haven't had an air starter before. Planning to have a 24v air compressor hooked up to a solar panel to always keep the tank charged!

    Mate any reason you have sub titles on your videos ? It's not my setting because no other video does it

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s your settings, turn off CC (close captions)
      I have put subtitles on them as about 20% of people who watch the videos use subtitles but the auto generated ones from TH-cam are crap. But that’s why it’s popping up on yours as the setting won’t be turned off

    also just intresed in why you have mudflaps on the front of the tractor ?

    • @Brendonxx12
      @Brendonxx12 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure if it's the same but it would be for the high tillage. Any potential sticks or that would hit the flap and break up to reduce punctures

      Canola stubble!

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are there to push the stubble over so that it doesn't spike into the tyre. It just gives the tyres/tracks a longer shelf life. Stubble is really harsh on tyres

    I don't understand why you don't move the rock out of the field entirely?? Surely there is a place you can dump it without being on farmable land? Even if you dug a pond size hole and filled it in with rock. You could go right up to the edge and dump over the side and even push it into the "pond".

      Time and efficiency. The further we go to haul the more time we spend on the job and the longer it takes.

    I regret I have to say that the choice of background music is awful. The video, however, is most informative.
