Under the hood stuff turns out to be not Rocket League, expectations violated. Psyonix hasn't historically been untrustworthy so much as occasionally incompetent, forgivable stuff, but completely setting wrong or awful expectations and then violating those expectations spectacularly is the kind of stuff which nearly destroyed Unity, for example.
people keep saying that "rocket racing was the reason why trading got removed" but for me they're using rocket racing as an excuse to get rid of it. all epic want is our money, so if you can't trade anymore, you gotta buy the items from the item shop. biggest asshole move i have seen in this game
yeah they saw valorant and thought we can do the same. just overpriced carbage and no way to redeem some of it unless you sell your account. dont et me wrong i am not for trading stuff in games at least not when there is a way to earn real money from it like cs:go. kids will get bullied and scammed and stuff. but just in game trading is okay for me. but the skins and cars also need to be a normal price then. if i look at valorant where some skins are sold for 50 bucks each and no trading. that is where is say wow what the. skins may have value but only by the community set. skins that are rarely sold or dropped are more rare not if the just have a tag from the devs and everyone can just buy them. the finals also has that example the rare/legendary in their battlepass is in game credits how is that legendary when it is simpleway in the battlepass on the first levels. now we get this stuff in rocket league and the price will only go up. we love the game but we should stop playing. and let another dev team/studio take over or develop a competitor
When Epic bought Rocket League, the community was worried the game would become a neglected cash grabber. It took some time, but Epic delivered! Waiting for an indie developer to make a spiritual successor. Feels like just a matter of time before Epic shuts down even more servers to prioritize their bigger cash machines.

the saddest part about the nonexistent updates in rocket league is that the community has both EXPLAINED and MADE what we would love to see in the game. its not just "we want an update!" its "this is explicitly what we want here is a way to implement it" (custom maps for example)

The developers get no say in what they actually work on. They listen to senior developers, who listen to lead developers, who listen to project managers, who listen to VPs and executives. And that’s at a smaller company. Only when you get to the lead developer position do you get a small say in what you make. The decision was made for them, and they chose to work hard for almost two years on what they were assigned, and they’re happy people can finally see what they worked on

I think Epic looks at RL like this: The existing players are not putting much more money into the game. They have their Fennecs and they re-earn the Rocket Pass credits each season. We are not the players Epic is looking for. But the Fortnite kids (and anyone else who doesn't already play RL), they haven't paid for imaginary stuff in RL yet. They are the "players" Epic is looking for. So the game will be changed to entice them to spend more money on it, and we, who have played the game since release, don't matter. There is only one solution: competition. How many FPS games and MOBAs are there? Why is there only one (serious) car soccer game? Someone should fix that.
That's definitely true. I bought the game for $20, bought the Batmobile for $2, bought a Rocket Pass for $10, then completed every Rocket Pass for the next 5 years, never spending another dime. I spend WAAAAAY more money on new controllers for Rocket League than the game itself, haha.
Hi, GC RL player here, and racing game enjoyer in general, currently Diamond 3 in RR. To me the main thing about Rocket Racing is not the difficulty of the maps per se but rather the optimality level you can reach. This game is all about getting the perfect lines (as in all other racing games) but the fact that some boost pads are placed in not necessarily obvious places and the shortcuts layouts make the races and the notion of „optimal line“ completely different from other racing games, which I find very interesting. Plus the fact that the races can get pretty intense very rapidly. This game, despite my first impressions, is genuinely fun to play. There are obviously problems with queue times, servers, physics. But if they deal with these problems, Rocket Racing could be huge.
So as it turns out this rocket racing game mode is what they needed the unreal engine 5 job posting for. Pretty disappointing that this is what they have been working on the last few years instead of rocket league in UE5.
i will say this, i havent been watching a lot of RL videos because it just the same old stuff. when i hear the news about trading being removed killed me and what still piss me off still even tho it been 2 months since they announce the bad news is that we didnt hear anything about whats happening until the 8th! the rotation of LTMs made me wanna came back to the game and not focus on grinding and raging at my awful teammates in ranked. we need a big update that will bring back people. Right now, i dont have faith that RL will last another 2 years like this without us having UE5.
One of my favorite games of all time was "Battlerite" an arena battle game with incredible gameplay and high skill ceiling. The devs decided to instead of working on this great base of a game to instead work on a Battle Royale version of the game. The playerbase was devastated. The Battle Royale version flopped, and the devs tried to implement some of their Battle Royale ideas to the Arena Battler version which trashed the game. The arena players game were ruined and the royale version flopped. This feels similar in many ways. I just assumed Epic made Rocket Racing and not Psyonix. I am deeply concerned that Psyonix isnt putting in enough effort into improving rocketleague and instead watering out the IP. I really wish the entire psyonix put all their love and heart into improving Rocket League and the (alleged) UE5 version.
I don't think psyonix has any say in what happens, I wouldn't blame them. Rocket League is no longer owned by psyonix, they just work on the game when daddy Epic tells them too.
The maps in Rocket Racing are determined by your rank, so you saying that the maps in Ranked are all too easy is because you were only playing in Silver and Bronze. Otherwise, great video. With that being said, I honestly think Rocket Racing is dope. I just hope it doesn't interfere with the future of Rocket League.
I've been playing rocket league since 2017 and I remember the og moments with the crates keys and the og spinning wheel and getting TW wonderments when they first came out because I did and also trading i also remember all the og dracos and zombas as well that's what made this game fun but ever since epic bought out psyonix we have went downhill but I never thought they would remove the one core feature keeping this game alive i hope one day they realize this and will bring back trading but who knows at this point

I was fully expecting to at least have all my cars available in Rocket Racing. Super lame that I only have an Octane and a Jager. It's really just a simple arcade racing game. I've been hopping on to get in a couple races when it's late at night and I'm too tired to keep up with Rocket League and start losing matches.

Kinda glad I stopped playing a few months ago. I love this game but it just got stale and I didn’t have the time to improve beyond GC2. Now I feel like it’s only a matter of time until it dies out if updates continue to be like practically non existent. Also I feel like psyonix’ focus might shift towards Rocket Racing (if it hasn’t already)-> less content for rl -> less players which could result in a death spiral for rl. I hope I’m wrong but that’s how I see it
I've just completely lost faith to be honest. 0 communication + considering Rocket Racing was their priority this whole time I doubt UE5 for the game (assuming they're even working on it) is even close to getting finished. Epic only announces new projects when they are close to getting finished and there's a very good chance that they will just completely abandon the game. At this point I genuinely think that GTA 6 (coming in presumably early 2025) will release before UE5 for RL.
In before someone creates a soccer based rocket car game and it's 10x better than Rocket League. We had a community to rival some of the coolest ones out there and Epic Games destroyed that.
I really wish they’d just add creative mode to RL. Would be awesome for console players to enjoy workshop maps as well as allow for a whole bunch of different game modes to play without epic having to lift a finger
speaking as a tryhard rocket league in 2017-19 player who now spends all of their time on Fortnite I logged into rocket league for the first time in years just to see the same cars and halloween cosmetics froms events 4-5 years ago in the shop (for WAY more money than when I was playing might I add) and it felt weird because I feel like I genuinely missed nothing. I don't think it's epics fault for RL staying the same because they aren't afraid to make changes to their main money maker but it might be a matter of logistics i.e not having enough time in the day to focus on RL becuase of RR.
I opend the Game. Was getting lost because of the new Playlist organisation. Played 2 Games of Rumble. Realised that Dropshot was gone. Closed the Game and didnt open it again since then. Dropshot was by far most of my time in Rocketleague :(
i think why they went silent until the last minute was because of their decision to remove trading. if they posted a season 13 trailer, for example, they would get 100% hate and i would be one that’s hating too and everyone would quit

The thought of downloading Fortnite to play this did cross my mind. When I saw the actual gameplay and realised how uninspired this game really is I knew there was no point. As Verge(?) said, he has 37 items in this Fortnite gamemode. Trading was removed to allow cross inventory. Where is it? Stocktane and a Lambo bundle. The only wheels being OEM and Lamborghini. They didn't even give you your items. Don't get me started on the new 4k credits car. Just bring back trading.
How would they be able to remake over 10 thousand items or how many items there even are in this game? It takes time. Also, I wouldn't say the game is uninspired. Linkurus video is pretty good to show you the unbiased game
Let's adress the situation again : they removed a key feature because you would get all your items in this scuffed gamemode for fortnite, but there is near to nothing that has been added from the item list. let's be real a minute here, no decent rocket league player will get attracted to that dumbed down poor version of trackmania, especially if the skill cap is so low. your thousand of hour does not translate in this gamemode, worse than that, it takes time and dedication to be actually good at RL, meanwhile RR is made to appeal for children by throwing them big numbers for the speedometer, yup 500kph or even 1000 kph is not the speed you're going to at all, at best you're going 200 to 300 kph. talking about epic, they milked the Rocket league player base for years without anything new that matters to the game, they takes us for granted because there isn't a competitor that could overtake RL, they fired a bunch of devs proving that they don't care and they never will, they don't listen at all to the community, so every dumb decision will come. It doesn't take a scientist to see that the game will slowly die with people loosing interest more and more, starting with all the people who did maintain a good chunk of the playerbase because of trading, removing it means more content creators will have to find another game, so they will not talk and promote rocket league anymore, and people who did watch those will slowly forget about the game because no one is talking about it, then you have also every player who played for trading that would follow too. add to that dropshot players and people who feel betrayed with this new season of nothing. the more the playerbase decrease, the more they will wait for a game, then you will have more leavers of the game, because waiting 2 to 5 minutes for a game filled with smurfs and toxics isn't gonna do it. we will end up with the last tryhards of the game, and pros, but if no ones is playing, watching or talking about the game, at some point rlcs will die aswell. I loved the game, but epic disrespect ends here
@@FATMAC2 I know some people that still watch a bit of rlcs/twitch streamers while they are not playing as much as before or even left the game, when you know the required skillcap to play at some level it always have some appeal when you know how hard it is, but yeah, it will fade away. also : good for you for leaving (not sarcasm), I'm still stuck with wanting to play it, but I always end up feeling disapointed by how they handle this game. past rocket league, epic is absolute garbage, always have been, but they throw "free" games at your face to attract you while providing the worse bloated shop of them all, even uplay isn't as garbage as them.

It's become pretty clear that Epic acquired devs like Psyonix and Harmonix for the team and their skills, not for their IP or passion projects. I'm glad that Rocket League wasn't flat out canceled like Fuser, but that's a really low standard to meet. There's probably gonna be a day where Rocket League straight up shuts down like Epic's older games before they went on an acquisition spree.
If they're not getting cash from RL anymore, hopefully they just open source it one day, along with the server code. Then who knows what could be in the future for RL.

I sorta love rocket racing, but I really, REALLY hope they dont turn actual Rocket League into just another fortnite mode. Rocket League was such a unique concept that hadnt been done before and now it'll just be known as a fortnite mode. Sometimes I dont want to launch fortnite :/
right now, if they added RL as an FN mode, that would be a terrible idea. though in a few years, it could actually be great for both games. FN is obviously trying to become more of a 'platform' rather then a game, like what ROBLOX is doing. We would already know Rocket league would hugely benefit in popularity, as the average playercount at peak hours for RR is almost 5x the all time peak of RL. We already have unique things that could definitely be their own game on FN, for example Lego FN, being better then almost every Lego game before.
Honestly Rocket Racing is really nice and fun and I love being able to race with rocket league cars but yeah removing trading for that is weird especially since they are only so few items that are available in fortnite (painted octane, oem wheels basically the rest is mostly paid DLC that were released over time) so it seems really not worth it and i think they could have integrated that to rocket league itself like they did for the knockdown mode,
To be honest. I play up in diamond 2 and my score matches everyone else’s. Although I am hard stuck down in plat 2. I always end up on like 600 points and my tm8 is like on 60. Then we lose. I hate how I can’t just rank up

I don't know if you noticed or I didn't see you mention this but if you hit diamond 3 in Rocket Racing in Fortnite. you will get BLACK OEM'S. The more and more you rank up in Fortnite the more painted Oem's you unlock. AND these wheels not only work in Fortnite but they transfer into Rocket League and are usable in Rocket League.

Psyonix releases like 4 maps per year, meanwhile leth posts a map every damn week (tbf some of them suck but some are great)

This game is all about getting the perfect lines (as in all other racing games) but the fact that some boost pads are placed in not necessarily obvious places and the shortcuts layouts make the races and the notion of „optimal line“ completely different from other racing games, which I find very interesting.
Plus the fact that the races can get pretty intense very rapidly.
This game, despite my first impressions, is genuinely fun to play.
There are obviously problems with queue times, servers, physics.
But if they deal with these problems, Rocket Racing could be huge.

So as it turns out this rocket racing game mode is what they needed the unreal engine 5 job posting for. Pretty disappointing that this is what they have been working on the last few years instead of rocket league in UE5.
i will say this, i havent been watching a lot of RL videos because it just the same old stuff. when i hear the news about trading being removed killed me and what still piss me off still even tho it been 2 months since they announce the bad news is that we didnt hear anything about whats happening until the 8th! the rotation of LTMs made me wanna came back to the game and not focus on grinding and raging at my awful teammates in ranked. we need a big update that will bring back people. Right now, i dont have faith that RL will last another 2 years like this without us having UE5.
One of my favorite games of all time was "Battlerite" an arena battle game with incredible gameplay and high skill ceiling. The devs decided to instead of working on this great base of a game to instead work on a Battle Royale version of the game. The playerbase was devastated. The Battle Royale version flopped, and the devs tried to implement some of their Battle Royale ideas to the Arena Battler version which trashed the game. The arena players game were ruined and the royale version flopped.
This feels similar in many ways. I just assumed Epic made Rocket Racing and not Psyonix. I am deeply concerned that Psyonix isnt putting in enough effort into improving rocketleague and instead watering out the IP.
I really wish the entire psyonix put all their love and heart into improving Rocket League and the (alleged) UE5 version.
I don't think psyonix has any say in what happens, I wouldn't blame them. Rocket League is no longer owned by psyonix, they just work on the game when daddy Epic tells them too.

The maps in Rocket Racing are determined by your rank, so you saying that the maps in Ranked are all too easy is because you were only playing in Silver and Bronze. Otherwise, great video. With that being said, I honestly think Rocket Racing is dope. I just hope it doesn't interfere with the future of Rocket League.
I've been playing rocket league since 2017 and I remember the og moments with the crates keys and the og spinning wheel and getting TW wonderments when they first came out because I did and also trading i also remember all the og dracos and zombas as well that's what made this game fun but ever since epic bought out psyonix we have went downhill but I never thought they would remove the one core feature keeping this game alive i hope one day they realize this and will bring back trading but who knows at this point
It’s hilarious because we thought at least we’d get most of our garage like bodies wheels boosts and decals in Fortnite yet only the Lambo Cyclone Jäger Diesel Octane and OEM wheels are available.

RL will never go to UE5, it just wont work because the engine RL was built on is completely different. But Psyonix being bought by Epic was the worst thing to ever happen to RL
Honestly, it's starting to feel like, if we get a Rocket League 2 / UE5 etc... it's going to be a Fortnite game mode, isn't it? I didn't realize until Rocket Racing that they were making it such a roblox-like game launcher but that feels inevitable now.

Rocket racing has been a blast for me. Currently in platinum 3 with about 85%. Hoping to hit diamond tomorrow.
I wish rocket racing was just a separate game from fortnite fully fleshed out not just a scuffed fortnite racing mode. That way it would make more sense of cross game inventory
I was fully expecting to at least have all my cars available in Rocket Racing. Super lame that I only have an Octane and a Jager. It's really just a simple arcade racing game. I've been hopping on to get in a couple races when it's late at night and I'm too tired to keep up with Rocket League and start losing matches.

Kinda glad I stopped playing a few months ago. I love this game but it just got stale and I didn’t have the time to improve beyond GC2. Now I feel like it’s only a matter of time until it dies out if updates continue to be like practically non existent. Also I feel like psyonix’ focus might shift towards Rocket Racing (if it hasn’t already)-> less content for rl -> less players which could result in a death spiral for rl. I hope I’m wrong but that’s how I see it
I've just completely lost faith to be honest. 0 communication + considering Rocket Racing was their priority this whole time I doubt UE5 for the game (assuming they're even working on it) is even close to getting finished. Epic only announces new projects when they are close to getting finished and there's a very good chance that they will just completely abandon the game. At this point I genuinely think that GTA 6 (coming in presumably early 2025) will release before UE5 for RL.

I really wish they’d just add creative mode to RL. Would be awesome for console players to enjoy workshop maps as well as allow for a whole bunch of different game modes to play without epic having to lift a finger

speaking as a tryhard rocket league in 2017-19 player who now spends all of their time on Fortnite I logged into rocket league for the first time in years just to see the same cars and halloween cosmetics froms events 4-5 years ago in the shop (for WAY more money than when I was playing might I add) and it felt weird because I feel like I genuinely missed nothing. I don't think it's epics fault for RL staying the same because they aren't afraid to make changes to their main money maker but it might be a matter of logistics i.e not having enough time in the day to focus on RL becuase of RR.

I opend the Game. Was getting lost because of the new Playlist organisation. Played 2 Games of Rumble. Realised that Dropshot was gone. Closed the Game and didnt open it again since then.

i think why they went silent until the last minute was because of their decision to remove trading. if they posted a season 13 trailer, for example, they would get 100% hate and i would be one that’s hating too and everyone would quit

The thought of downloading Fortnite to play this did cross my mind. When I saw the actual gameplay and realised how uninspired this game really is I knew there was no point. As Verge(?) said, he has 37 items in this Fortnite gamemode. Trading was removed to allow cross inventory. Where is it? Stocktane and a Lambo bundle. The only wheels being OEM and Lamborghini. They didn't even give you your items. Don't get me started on the new 4k credits car. Just bring back trading.
How would they be able to remake over 10 thousand items or how many items there even are in this game? It takes time. Also, I wouldn't say the game is uninspired. Linkurus video is pretty good to show you the unbiased game

They removed trading for THIS
Let's adress the situation again : they removed a key feature because you would get all your items in this scuffed gamemode for fortnite, but there is near to nothing that has been added from the item list.
let's be real a minute here, no decent rocket league player will get attracted to that dumbed down poor version of trackmania, especially if the skill cap is so low.
your thousand of hour does not translate in this gamemode, worse than that, it takes time and dedication to be actually good at RL, meanwhile RR is made to appeal for children by throwing them big numbers for the speedometer, yup 500kph or even 1000 kph is not the speed you're going to at all, at best you're going 200 to 300 kph.
talking about epic, they milked the Rocket league player base for years without anything new that matters to the game, they takes us for granted because there isn't a competitor that could overtake RL, they fired a bunch of devs proving that they don't care and they never will, they don't listen at all to the community, so every dumb decision will come.
It doesn't take a scientist to see that the game will slowly die with people loosing interest more and more, starting with all the people who did maintain a good chunk of the playerbase because of trading, removing it means more content creators will have to find another game, so they will not talk and promote rocket league anymore, and people who did watch those will slowly forget about the game because no one is talking about it, then you have also every player who played for trading that would follow too.
add to that dropshot players and people who feel betrayed with this new season of nothing.
the more the playerbase decrease, the more they will wait for a game, then you will have more leavers of the game, because waiting 2 to 5 minutes for a game filled with smurfs and toxics isn't gonna do it.
we will end up with the last tryhards of the game, and pros, but if no ones is playing, watching or talking about the game, at some point rlcs will die aswell.

@@FATMAC2 I know some people that still watch a bit of rlcs/twitch streamers while they are not playing as much as before or even left the game, when you know the required skillcap to play at some level it always have some appeal when you know how hard it is, but yeah, it will fade away.

It's become pretty clear that Epic acquired devs like Psyonix and Harmonix for the team and their skills, not for their IP or passion projects. I'm glad that Rocket League wasn't flat out canceled like Fuser, but that's a really low standard to meet. There's probably gonna be a day where Rocket League straight up shuts down like Epic's older games before they went on an acquisition spree.
If they're not getting cash from RL anymore, hopefully they just open source it one day, along with the server code. Then who knows what could be in the future for RL.

One race my mini turbo didn't work so everytime i drifted i didn't get any boost and was stuck going slow unless I used the normal boost

I sorta love rocket racing, but I really, REALLY hope they dont turn actual Rocket League into just another fortnite mode. Rocket League was such a unique concept that hadnt been done before and now it'll just be known as a fortnite mode. Sometimes I dont want to launch fortnite :/
right now, if they added RL as an FN mode, that would be a terrible idea. though in a few years, it could actually be great for both games. FN is obviously trying to become more of a 'platform' rather then a game, like what ROBLOX is doing. We would already know Rocket league would hugely benefit in popularity, as the average playercount at peak hours for RR is almost 5x the all time peak of RL. We already have unique things that could definitely be their own game on FN, for example Lego FN, being better then almost every Lego game before.
Honestly Rocket Racing is really nice and fun and I love being able to race with rocket league cars but yeah removing trading for that is weird especially since they are only so few items that are available in fortnite (painted octane, oem wheels basically the rest is mostly paid DLC that were released over time) so it seems really not worth it and i think they could have integrated that to rocket league itself like they did for the knockdown mode,
the only good thing is that we can get every painted OEM

I don't know if you noticed or I didn't see you mention this but if you hit diamond 3 in Rocket Racing in Fortnite. you will get BLACK OEM'S. The more and more you rank up in Fortnite the more painted Oem's you unlock. AND these wheels not only work in Fortnite but they transfer into Rocket League and are usable in Rocket League.
