This was a great tutorial! The two spots that now occasionally catch me are remembering to keep my pinky in place so the cards don't slide down after the initial cut, and getting the deck out of the way so my pointer doesn't "catch" on the top corner of the deck before the spin is done (this is tied to the first one: the pinky has to make sure the cards are pushed up high enough).
Before someone inevitably comments "WOW THIS IS WAY TOO LONG FOR JUST THE REV CUT" ----- That's the point, I am trying to go into extra extra detail for those who struggle with this move! (: Also I am aware I do this move differently then the vast majority of people... this isn't meant to teach people the wrong way, it's troubleshooting for those who have struggled with the current work out there right now. I know this is an old video, but chiming in to say thanks. I’m getting back into one handed cuts and always had a sloppy revolution cut. I could get most of the other basics fine, but I got this one down to muscle memory without learning it right. It was mostly the index finger action that I had wrong, but you are definitely right about the pivot point being different for every one.
I had a bad habit where i was doing the Charlier packet drop, then this awkard dopey spin of the top packet, then just finishing the Charlier as normal. Not fluent, not cool. But I realized from this video that my index finger needs to stay on the top pack all the way round. And as the top pack gets near its full rotation, the index finger is now both rotating the top packet and lifting the bottom packet. And at the last moment, indexy boy transfers to the bottom packet, finishing the lift and dropping the top packet. The move index out the side to close. Thanks for this!
i guess im asking randomly but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Gordon Cullen I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks for this. I was really struggling with it. Like to the point that I couldn't do it at all. This helped me to be able to actually do it, even with my small hands. Thanks!!!
@@kebeiwjwgseywgw5590 yeah, just practice with half a deck if your struggling and slowly add more to get better. It might take a while but once you get it its not that hard.
Damn man, thanks to you, I know now how to do the revolution cut. I was thinking my hands were too small or whatever but nop. The trick is to take the pulse by going left and then release it to the right and boum done. 👍
The tips are not bad, but here's a few more I can give to you as well. See how the bottom packet is very unclean when you lift it? The reason for that is that you're spinning the packet first, and then using your index to lift the bottom packet. So if you want to clean it out a bit you should instead use your ring finger to lift up the bottom packet and then spin it. Also try to clear your index finger earlier, so that you move it out of the way as you're dropping the packet down instead of dropping the packet first and then clearing your index. It'll look much better that way :)
you're right for sure! this series is just kinda about experimenting and finding what works best for you so I posted it anyway so people who are struggling with the material that already exists can try different methods
Yeah if you learn it the way it’s taught in this video, it leads you to several problems down the line when a revolution cut is required in a more complex cut, eg squeeze.. If you learn it properly, by pushing the bottom packet up with your ring finger then you won’t have to relearn the move all over again like I did about a year ago.
For people with small hands like me, that does not work. You cannot do a Charlier with the ring finger. At my size, the thumb cannot touch the packet that is going to spin when they're in the Charlier positions. The thumb is shorter than the width of the card. The way I do a revolution cut is much like described in the video, except I move my ring finger around to the bottom edge of the deck. This way, the forth finger doesn't get blocked by any packet.
HeyJD I used to have the exact same mindset as you regarding hand size. I know what I’m about to say is very cliche, but I wouldn’t be saying it if it weren’t true.. hand size does not matter. If you stick at something long enough, and if you’re really properly compelled and motivated to learn something, then something as silly as having small hands won’t get in the way. I can guarantee that you haven’t tried doing the revolution in the correct posture for long enough for you to have a ‘break through’ moment with it. Yes, it will feel uncomfortable, and yes, you won’t get it perfectly within an hour, but stick at it and you WILL get it. Don’t let your brain tell you otherwise, cause hand size isn’t an excuse to not being able to do a move.
Wow. I watched that '5 Basic One Handed Cuts' video and it just did not register with me how he was explaining the Revolution cut.. But before this video was even half over, I learned it and can smoothly perform it with focus. Lol Thanks
Can you please do a troubleshooting video on the pressure fan and under pressure? I know you guys have a tutorial on the moves but I’m still having some trouble, especially with the thumbs getting in the way on the pressure fan. Love your videos keep up the good work!
Thanks for the tutorial. You know what would be 'revolutionary'? If you had a camera on the other side so we can see what's happening on the other side of the deck. It would be helpful to see what the 'empty' fingers were doing during the motion. Thanks!
can see that this video has been out for awhile so maybe it's no longer the case that you do the rev cut in this way but I can't recommend this video to beginners. The method of instruction is wrong and that's why your deck always look a mess after you finish the cut. you are not supposed to clear your index finder away outwards after revolving the top packet to the bottom, you are supposed to curl it inwards under the revolved packet. the way you do it you lose control over the top pocket and it just collapses awkwardly in a mess over the bottom packet. theres a video leon tai posted on the one handed revolution where he shares 3 methods of doing the cut, well the 3 methods vary in the way the spin is conducted but the closer is the same, that is to curl the index under the revolved packet as that is the only correct way if you want to control the cut properly.
Me when I'm trying to learn the revolution cut and learn how to do the classic pass by accident. "We are hitting levels of what the fuck that shouldn't even be possible!"
For me, someone with smaller hands, I actually find it a bit easier to rotate a larger portion of the cards (that way the smaller deck that drops first is easier to get out of the way for the deck you spin to land in place underneath) if that makes sense.
Its always big handed guys who says "dont complaime about your hand size!!" but heres the thing. Some people do have small hands. Like i cant do revloution cut the way dealers grip thought me. My ring finger have to rotate the packet from the short edge of the card. Of cours i cant do thumb cut. But i can do the one handed shuffle. Bit streching and cant do the linning part but i still can
My fingers are so short that doing it with the top knuckle leaves just as much room as when you try to do it low to the palm, I think I'll just stick with the charlier cut, my fingers are legit too short unless i ditch half the deck.
Dude you're the spitting image of a blonde Billy Zane... anyone tell you that? Great video thanks! Hey Chandler, I'm not seeing the link you described for the musician you use for your recordings (Album Garden?). Trying to google him as well with no results. Can you please help. Thanks
Hey, I have pretty big hands, I can almost do the revolution cut, I don't get my index finger stuck, but at the end the packet on the bottom isn't closing properly. It get stuck horizontally so I need to use my other hand to finish it. Can you please tell me what to do?
Can i put my ring finger on the shorter edge of the bottom packet when i have to grip the top packet with it? I just can't grip it when put it on the long edge.
I gotta ask cause I'm struggling and it's making me crazy. My index finger is kinda getting stuck on the top short edge of the deck. So I can't finish the move cause it's not in position to push the bottom packet up. Any thoughts.
naw bro...im bout to quit...pretty sure my hands too little at this point lol and relatively cold wit these 52...I'm trying not to get discouraged tho... great tutorial tho
I nów what you think but my hands are really to small becouse when i do the rotarian my indax go on the upper Side of the deck and it doesnt even clear

So glad I found this. Thank you so Much. Your grip and Setup to spin Saved me.

@Paul Talon no problem =)
I learn so much about cardistry and how to perfect it from you guys. Thanks a lot
Yo thanks for this video! It cleaned up my revolution cut quite a bit. Hope you guys have a great day!

I would suggest holding your top packet against you thumb before you close it, much like a charlier cut, just makes it look a lot more clean.
appreciate it man!
Great tips. Also it's easier and looks better if you keep the bottom packet vertical while spining the top packet by using your thumb and index finger
