i love my 2019 cbr 500r. it looks like a super sport and a lot of people mistake it for one, because it does look like a bigger bike! and it's just gorgeous and the gas mileage is phenomenal. the bike is super light to me compared to a 600rr even, and it looks just as big. crazy!
Thats a good point. Dealerships could benefit by getting 1 person from all their branches (eg all uk honda branches) and sending them on a quick 1 day course how to set up a bike and see if it needs adjustments for the potential rider/person buying. Then they would have an opportunity to sell them a respiring as well or include it free as a unique selling point!

Nice video man! I got the 500R as my first bike. I'm just starting to make videos now. Really love the bike! I think it's the perfect first bike for most people with its awesome sportbike styling and naked bike ergonomics and handling. The ABS saved me as a beginner as well so It already paid for its self. The bike is set from the Factory and to change settings devalues the product and reduces the credibility of the Factory. Staff can instruct you to the suspension section of the manual for you to review specific settings (if included) that you must use. I choose to be a critical thinker and every bike I sold when GM of a dealership was set for the buyer long before it left the shop.
I'm in the UK! where can I source springs? I have found a couple of suppliers to the public but find they are limited in what is available for touring or sports touring bikes Bike I'm currently trying to sort out is Z7050s which has a KYB gas shock with 109N spring which i believe to be stock trying to source 125N spring. Yes I know I need to lose 2-3 stone ok 4 but in the mean time while its coming off I still need that support in the spring best regards HarryB
Yo Mr. Moss, I've got a 2018 cb500f am around 100kg. What would you recon is the best suspension setup on the bike (since it's pretty much the same like in the video) for spirited street riding. I have a feeling it's abit too soft, but I also don't know what to really pay attention to when on the ride. Like how far should the bike dip when braking, how much it should dip when throttling, how much it should dip in a corner, etc. Would be cool if you could help me out :-)
@@Daniel-dj7fh Step 1 is to see how much fork and shock travel you are using. If you are bottomed out, then you need to go stiffer. That would mean thicker fork oil and increasing shock preload 2 notches stiffer. Test travel used again. If you bottom the forks, stiffer springs are needed, then max the shock preload. If you bottom again with stiffer fork springs along with shock travel, more expensive upgrades are needed.

Excellent. Don't forget to set the ergonomics for yourself as soon as you get it and then set the rear shock preload correctly. Once that has been done, experiment with tyre pressures to find what you need. Enjoy the new CBR!!!!
Your height will provide challenges for you ergonomically. Springs are easily sourced for your weight. A Kawasaki might be a better bike if that meets your Country's criteria
With your height the question will be how do your knees fit the tank based on leg length? If your legs are too long eg 36 inches, you will never be able to get comfortable. Sit on the bike if you can, follow the details in the video and create your own opinion.

I'm wanting to set preload front and rear as well as make other minor ergonomic adjustments now that I've had a chance to ride it and get comfortable with how it feels.
The specs on the 500R list for travel at 122mm but give no information on adjustable preload. Odd. Yes, a large flat blade screw driver will be fine and make sure you mark bottom out of the right fork. Zero out all the way clockwise and count in making sure both are matched. Set sag, put a zip tie on one leg and see how much travel you use. Adjust spring tension so you get 75-80% of travel.
If your elbow is around 90 degrees it is a much more comfortable ergo position. That being said, height varies from 5' to 6" 3" as a reasonable average range so we have to find a way to make it work by being creative. Higher seat or lower bars. tedious and annoying, but one bike does not fit all unfortunately.

It is styled as a sportbike. There is no question about that given the fairings and the similar look to the CBR1000RR. We all struggle with motorcycles because they are not built for an individual and our culture as motorcyclists is to ride what we are given. This is a continuation of the 100 year cycle of ride, it hurts, sell, buy a new bike, repeat. In doing that. less people are hurt, fewer riders are killed and families stay together.
Depends on what you want to learn prior to a purchasing choice. For you perhaps not, but for others - a viewpoint from a neutral observer is a good balance point against formal documents by the OEM that do not cover these topics.
At that height it depends on your inseam measurement. If you are 26-28mm and set the shock soft, you should be fine with the balls of both feet on the ground.
If you remove the charcoal canister, you change the exhaust function especially in regards to internal pressure. If it is bad, the bike will pop or backfire on deceleration and the engine might run hotter than before by 10C or more.
You would need to respring and revalve the rear shock and the stock forks would need thicker oil. If you are looking for a bike where there is little to do with your weight, a ZX14R would be a better choice.
A Hyabusa has very similar power to the ZX14R with a very similar engine size, so I am a little confused as to why a ZX14R is a bad idea compared to a Hyabusa? We can all ride any bike, anywhere, any time. The most important question is can we honor our limitations as a new rider. If you want a new or used Hyabusa, it will still need to be set up for you. Never considered the bigger displacement bikes due to lack of experience. Granted I'm 29 and I like to think mature enough to control myself, so maybe I'll look into it. For the ZX14R would it need new parts or just adjusted?
ZX14R would be an adjustment only. The Hyabusa might need fork springs depending on your speed/braking proficiency. Sit on all of them and see what "fits" you best. Then create the top 2 based on how comfortable they are OR figure what it will cost to make the bike you want work for you correctly .
Any of the 500/650cc range these days are great starter bikes as the low end torque gives you a good dose of acceleration. If you are in the 5' 7"- 5'10" range you should fit the bike well enough too.
I'm 6 ft even but I'm around 265lbs due to lifting weights and I have had my heart set on this bike. in the video you said I'd be too big for this bike so I was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what bike would be good for me to start on.
Absolutely - you will simply purchase heavy duty 1.0kg springs for the forks and 30w fork oil to the same volume as stock. I am not sure what you can buy for replacement springs for the rear shock as Race Tech does not offer any alternatives. Not at all. The engine is well placed and the bike feels very light to push around as well as ride.

Also the bike weighs over 202 kgs + (400+ lbs) wet with parallel twin 650 engine and Triumph thruxton like clipons
20w fork oil has worked well on the forks and that has solved a lot of handling problems. Check fork and shock travel used.
I would add this bike to my garage along with the cbr650R!

I have a 2018 CBR500R. I love it. For me personally I don’t think I want more power than it offers at least not yet. It has plenty.

I am 5' 9" so you can see I am flat footed and comfortable. You could be 5' 6" and probably be comfortable.
