    Studying for my third mates, this was a great introductory video on this topic. Just enough without losing interest in the complexities of how a gyroscope works.

    I have always been confused with TVMDC calculation with regards to Magnetic compass and the gyro compass, is the C what we are steering at the helm (gyro compass) so when we plot on the chart (True bearings) we have to convert to compass to be able to steer on the ship? Now if our gyro fails and dont have a second gyro we switch to the magnetic compass in the TVMDC is it the M? So to be able to steer the ship as per the passage we need to apply deviation ? Or does it all have to be true bearings with steering as per the chart as ive heard you would apply deviation and variation but that doesnt make sense to me as per this TVMDC. Hope this makes some sense and you can clarify this for me

    • @SteeringMariners
      @SteeringMariners  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sam, this needs an explanation in detail. Maybe I will should make a video on detailing the differences between each type of bearing, and how to apply each (with or without corrections).

    If a magnetic compass always points towards magnetic north, then what is Deviation?

    Here in 9:14 u say horizontal axis is for tilt and vertical axis is for drift, but in next part the drift goes for horizontal axis and tilt for vertical axis... So which one to consider?

    • @mahmoudfarag2398
      @mahmoudfarag2398 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drift means the gyroscope moves in the horizontal axis and tilt is for vertical axis

    The spinning top in the movie inception is used to differentiate between reality and dreams.

      Lol ok. The dreidel is a four sided spinning top played during the jewish holiday of Hanukkah. What did that have to do with anything?

      Not only this topic but most of the concepts across various subjects.
      @Steering Mariners as a channel and Sam sir as a virtual teacher helped me and several colleagues through our academic journey.
      His way of explaining and teaching complicated concepts in a simple and lucid manner is what makes him different from others. I literally can't recommend this channel enough for anyone who's interested in learning.

      @@SteeringMariners Too much talking and repeating and repeating. Like an American book about facts : they explain in 10 pages what can be resumed in one page of objective information. Even for a bad novel is boring. But the more published pages the more „valuable” book. This should be about science not fairy tales. Yes, I found.
