I adore Little Witch Academia, it's my favorite anime!
Diana is my favorite anime character ever because I see so much of her in me. I lack patience for those who aren't serious in a craft I work hard in, and yet I believe in leading in kindness.

The narrative is character, so I think it makes sense for the first half to focus on just expressing and fleshing the characters. The main plot progression, really, is Akko's character development. It's a Chosen One narrative is one where you have to grow into the descriptor, and your journey is basically complete once you fit the role

I for one actually looooove the first half. You say akko and the show has only the vague goal of "emulating shiny chariot" as if its smth negative, and I understand in current anime climates you want "action" or "active, visible plot progression"
As "bang for your buck" measures
And I totally get that. I understand it. I personally have that feeling for many shows
But I think that "vagueness" or "nothing happening" WAS intentional
Bcos it brings us in line with Akko's exact state of mind
It starts of with a bang and high shenanigans, and sprinkling of new mysteries and crumbs
....bcos thats how Akko was as well. I think the pacing of the show is so good in relaying the mind of Akko. She's all bright eyed at the start
When it feels slow or vague, or when a few episodes in succession show that "descent" in "pace" or "content" its bcos that's Akko too
When it "resets" its bcos she also resets. She may seem rly confident/blindly bullish but inside she's full of insecurities

Yeah, you’re 100% right to read the show that way. I know there are tons of people who love LWA explicitly for those slower moment and it’s all totally intentional by the writers. There’s some stories that I really enjoy that take there time in that kind of way too, it’s just that for whatever reason it didn’t click for me this time.
It’s entirely personal preference and I understand why they made the show that way, and I really appreciate how it sets up the twist with Chariot and Croix, because that whole reveal was genius. I’ll probably enjoy it more if I ever revisit the series.

Nice review, i have installed LWA Chamber of Time in 2018 and was waiting for the right time to play it, the time is nigh.
I just got done watching LWA myself. The first half of the show drags on occasion and the protagonist can be annoying sometimes but the show REALLY picks up in the 2nd half (minus a semi-rushed ending). Also being a Studio Trigger show ofc the animation looks dazzlingly gorgeous.
Regardless of any issues I may have with it, Little Witch Academia holds a special place in my heart just for being one of the first (if not THE first) ever anime I really got into and watched from start to finish.
This year, I sent a postcard to the creator Yoh Yoshinari. TRIGGER announced that it has ordered a free grand exhibition for the 10th anniversary of Little Witch Academia across Taiwan. The special exhibition will be launched as soon as possible for a total of five months.
I declare Atsuko Kagari to be the cardboard stand-up mascot favored by studio Trigger executives, Atsuko kagari would go on to become the mascot of Studios TRIGGER and was featured in their production logo up.
P.S. : i and Trigger fans love Akko is the titular main protagonist of Little Witch Academia. And I love “the heroic quest of the valiant prince ivandoe”, Akko came out in 2013, and ivandoe came out in 2017. Their names are taken from classic novels.
6:46 u mean Chariot Du Nord, also yes the show has it flaws, but it is still a go to show. Also when i watched it the first time, the only flaw i've encountered was "it's not long enough and I want more"

Thank you for the quick review, Little Witch Academia is in my Top 10 and it's cool that people still make content for it^^ You had well thought out points, i think it would've been cool if you had talked a bit more about the Cavendish episodes. The only thing that was a missed opportunity was Akko and Diana kissing in space, but man the ending was so cool nonetheless. The show as a whole really gave me my Magic back. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I realised watching it back that I could have given more focus on Diana and her story but hopefully I still got across what she brings to the show.

Yeah also Mind Conduct fucking slaps, the OP for the LWA "Season 2" (i don't agree on that) really brings the tone, just like XCOM: Enemy Unknown did with their 3 stages of the Base theme. I mean like there's a progression, stakes are up, ace in the ante.

While you pronounced a lot of names wrong, this was a very well thought-out and productive review! I agree with most of what you said despite having a different taste in the media I consume, I quite like the first season and the slice of life animes like it. Akko's overly energetic and often stubborn nature is nicely balanced out by Lotte's calm and kind nature and Sucy's sarcastic and almost sadistic one. Diana is and always has been my favorite anime character since i first got into the show, and she's actually what got me into it. I saw her in an anime AMV and really wanted to know what anime she was from. All in all its a very nice anime for anyone who likes that sort of thing, or for anyone who is new to anime in general. Kid friendly too!
13:14 and no, that is wrong, Diana told her that she was on that show too, and was robbed of her magic power as well, but to true determination she succeeded to be the best Witch at Luna Nova, and also, Akko was able to fly the Broom at the end. This anime is about determination, you was robbed of your strength, but through sheer force of will, you took back your life! But she did not took hers.
9:52 i would not say villain, cuz plot, i would say an antihero. And she did not planned to ignite a war, she was harvesting negative emotions and freaked out when war almost break out.
Do "High Guardian Spice" next.
