Putting A 585 cam in - More power from S&S

- One of the hardest decisions is what cam to pick. There's so many out there and combinations. You have to find out what kind of riding you do as well as what other upgrades you want to do. I will be changing mine out to a S&s 585 cam from a Andrews 54H.

JUST BIGGER CAMS WONT REALLY HELP---IF--ya don't ---GET MORE AIRFLOW---GET YA SOME MORE FUEL---A BETTER AIR/FUEL MIXTURE---ETC.... all parts need to ALL WORK TOGETHER---AND IN HARMONY !!! I USED TO DRAG-RACE A 1967 MUSTANG I had---and I did a TON OF RESEARCH FOR MY MOTOR AND ALL IT'S PARTS----AND THAT IS BASICALLY I REALLY LEARNED WITH ALL THAT !!! Stock height pistons
Had a torque cam
Not happy with the rpm range
Switchin' to 585 for the rpm curve
A little tiny 88 is all
But stock I would surprise folks

I love the 585 cam in the twin cam and the evo it pulls really nice
Curious how you still feel about the 585. Long story short, A number of years ago I put 95" cylinders, 10.5:1 Wiseco pistons, flowed heads and 585G on my 02 FLSTFI. Tuner warned me, at the time, its a good cam but has a dead zone until the R's get up there. I experience exactly what he warned me about. In my experience, on my engine, im borderline over-cammed. Ive contemplated for years (i dont ride nearly as much as I used to) nocking it down a peg or two.
Im very happy with the way it pulls and rides. With the Thunder Max tuner is rides great and dialed in. Now im a little bit lower on the compression than where they would like but where i like to ride at 3200 rps it pulls great.

i have orderderd CHEST UP. Grade kit from S&S from with 585 EZ CAMS And. Have a Thundermax ad good exhaustad hi flo air I take aim thinking to upgrade to a 110 but for now its good do you like the cams?
I love the cams for the riding I do pulls great with the setup I have. With the 106 kit and heads it made 116 ft/lbs of tq 109 Hp so not bad numbers. With a 110 can be looking at even higher. Number depending on what all you do.
I have a 2007 street glide with a stock 96" which would be a good cam choice? I would appreciate any suggestions
Andrews 54H isn’t a bad cam. I went from it to S&S 585 cams witch I love the way the quick in. I would look at bolt in cams unless your planning on doing any other upgrades to the bike as well as your riding style. I like a good overlap cam where i get about the same Hp and Tq
My current setup S&S 106 piston and mr103 cam kit, but not happy with sound. Can I run 585 cam on 106 kit?
You can run a 585 cam with a 106 kit. Now do you have stock heads? S&S says you can run stock springs why I ask I wouldn’t run anything higher than that on stock springs without changing them out.
do you need to upgrade your valve springs for the 585 cams ? I have a 103 I want to do it to but I here you need a valve springupdate
S&S 585 ez cam
It wouldn’t hurt to upgrade them. Because I was going with upgraded heads that had already been done. I would contact S&S to make sure but with how much lift there is it would be very close if you didn’t have to upgrade them
On S&S website it says 05 and up stock will handle up .590 lift
I have a 2012 Road-Glide 103, i have SE Stage 1 with V&H Pro-pipe, SE heavy Breather and SE Race tuner. I was considering doing a stage 2 with the Woods Tw-222 with a Thundermax Tune upgrade but I'm thinking I may want to do a 107 Big Bore down the road, so the S&S 585's would be best?
The 585 are great cams just going to depend on how you ride and what you want out of the engine. I like that there a good overlap so you get a good hp and tq instead of one of the other. Paired with the 107 and the rest of the upgrades you should be very happy with it

Not a problem the 585 do like a little bit higher compression than stock with the 89cc heads I have I'm on the low side of the compression but flow more air
