solmeme I’m dyslexic so this is a common issue for me , it doesn’t bother me I’ve had it my whole life. You know what’s crazy? 1 in 5 people have dyslexia but it’s just not talked about.

What I’ve noticed about a lot of TH-cam gurus is that they’re use if a lot of drag techniques in their applications, which is fine and dandy and exciting to see as a baby drag queen myself, but a lot of those techniques aren’t meant for everyday wear. The heavy concealing, extra color correcting, baking in excess are all techniques for performance and theatrical makeup so half your face doesn’t slough off in the middle of a routine.
Quin Cassic exactly! As a previous studio dancer stage makeup looks horrendous in natural lighting lmao. Like you create concrete on your face praying it won’t sweat off.

One of the best things I ever learned from Robert Welsh that I never got from a single beauty guru is that I don't need as much make up and I don't need to do EVERYTHING all of the time.
It makes me feel SO much more beautiful and confident on a daily basis.

I’m not gonna lie, the more I play with makeup and learn about it, the less of it I actually use.
I know a lot of these makeup trends and techniques are useful or popular but I think people don’t really look at their face and decide if they actually like the way it looks. They just like it because it looks Instagram-y.
J K right? I don’t use bronzer, contour, setting powders, or even eyeliner anymore. I simply don’t like the way my face looks with it!
this. ive gone back to more natural steps. less steps. more simple looks. getting ready takes way less time these days lol
I hardly use eye shadow anymore and only occasionally use mascara. Discovered that less is more
exactly ! with the years and the more I learn I stopped doing so many unnecessary steps that don't work for me.

Robert, the fact that you can get your point across, while kindly critiquing these young TH-camrs, is a lost art. You’re going to be at a million subscribers by the end of the year because your skills and tips are fantastic, you make us laugh, and don’t have to personalize your advice to hurt the other TH-camrs. Much respect.

Too many people take constructive criticism as a personal attack, they just say, haters instead of listening to what’s being said and see what’s bad about what their doing and try to be better. He’s critiquing their technique and not them. I found him a few weeks ago and he’s my fav person to watch. I don’t watch too many other people because they are all about pushing products and not techniques and tips.

He has a great nose, not sure why he contoured it so much, it’s too thin. He would look so much better leaving it a little bigger. So many people do that and their noses end up being too small for their faces.

I think his contour is great!! I think facial features are all about personal preference.
Many people have body dysmorphia and as far as face goes they use make up to not look at their real selves. Even though James looks happy with himself most of the time, we don't know if that's not the case. He just might see his own face differently than us - besides it just could be his preference with more defined and snatched features.
Facial features are a personal preference. Sometimes he contours his nose alot and sometimes he doesn't, it depends on what he wants to look like. He's spoken about how he prefers a super small, snatched nose, he knows what he looks like lol
I have noticed that “beauty gurus” are so much more aggressive with their makeup applications than Professionals Makeup Artists. Love Robert and all the information he gives in these videos!

After discovering this channel, everyone I watch another youtuber "baking" or piling on the concealer I cringe. I've totally changed my makeup routine and have noticed my face looks and feels so much less "makeup-y".

I've dry dehydrated skin and Robert's technique is no joke the only way to apply concealer I've found that does not make me look 95. I absolutely love this and have changed so much of my make up application thanks to this wonderful channel 😊

I'm so happy that there's a famous makeup artist/influencer/etc. who is FINALLY saying that all these extra makeup layers and products are completely unnecessary and don't translate well to real life. I know a 15 year old with perfect skin who thinks she needs a clowns triangle of concealer under her eyes because she watches way too many makeup influencer tutorials. This is so refreshing.

I only brush on a very thin layer of setting powder. And I still try to brush off any excess (if any) after that. I can't stand when people bake.

I love how most of the time he just calmly looks at the video without any reaction until he pauses to talk. I think it just shows that he is really thinking about what he wants to say and he keeps it relevant. Shows he really is doing this for the tips and advice not as an over-the-top reaction/attention seeking act.

When you're 19 years old, regardless of your level of fame, I guess we're (or at least I know I was) still not secure or comfortable in our own skin. Hence we see flaws that aren't there and on top of that we over correct them.

@@luluraeembury9966 then I suggest you korean foundation/cushion its all way too pink toned even natural beige, I look ashy/gray most of the time trying their foundatiin due to their pink undertone💀 even the one that says yellow still ended up gray on me wtf. I keep using it because the korean foundation didn't cause me breakout, etc so I just use colored loose powder to bring back my yellow skin tone :(

If My skin looked the way James Charles’s did before applying makeup... I would literally never use makeup. It always bothers me to see people who have such nice skin wearing that much makeup
im still pretty young so my skin is still really nice, i love putting on makeup but I always go really natural on the. You don't need to have a full coverage foundation if you want to wear a really dramtic eye look. sorry about spelling

Many people don't wear full coverage to cover their skin. They may like doing it. Many view applying makeup as an art. Moreover it's his choice...(I don't mean to be rude)
It shouldn't bother you the way other people choose to do their makeup. Of course we're analyzing his techniques in this video, but it really shouldn't bother you if he uses full coverage while having "perfect" skin, if it makes him feel more confident or more comfortable with the rest of the makeup, then he should 100% do it

I've just discovered Robert and I've been directing all of my friends and people that I know to watch his videos because they all love Lucifer, and I've been telling them "this guy looks and sounds just like Tom Ellis when he plays Lucifer!" His looks and his voice are so similar, and his accent and his laugh are EXACTLY the same.
There have been several moments over the past couple days of binge watching his videos where he'll laugh or say something in just the right way with just the right tone of voice, and I'm like "Oh my God that is 100% Tom Ellis right there!

Honestly James needs more credit. Compared to when he first started it’s only been 3 years and he improved so much. If he follows these tips in another year or so he will be amazing
I agree. People are too hard on him. He’s like 21 now I think. He’s been in the public for a few years. He’s also matured a lot. It rubs me wrong when people are so rude about his personality and techniques. I like Robert because he is kind when critiquing (but can also be humorous). Not to mention he’s 20!! Let him be over the top in personality. A lot of his hate is just disguised homophobia
I can’t help but agree with Robert! You could see the amount of powder on the influencers face and it was starting to make him look a bit orange… it looked nice but it was just too much product for an everyday look imo.

@@RobertWelsh I was surprised u didn't say anything about the contouring/bronzing on the sides of his face. He has such narrow face and somewhat long (not in a bad way) that I thought u'd say he needed to wear less on the sides to give the illusion of a bit more width...

You're absolutely right regarding the issue of excess concealer. I have really dark circles (I mean really dark brown ones, And my skin tone is a bit tan, Kinda similar to typical south Asians) and marks for wearing glasses and I followed his tutorials, but as I tried it, the concealer bundles up and looked really cakey.
I always thought that James’ contouring looks unpolished. Great reaction!
You know that saying "Less is More" that includes makeup and for me its fact. Since watching your videos I use less concealer/ powder(I learned real quick baking was NOT for me) and my makeup looks better for longer so thank you. Now if only I could find my right foundation shade LoL, you look adorable as always, really love the contacts, and I hope you have a good one

I lived for many years in a LGBTQ friendly community and doing makeup on biological male clients was kind of my thing. The advice on 5'oclock shadows was spot on! Thank you for educating the public on the science and theory of the art.
