      Not out of nothing, the MOS technology 6502 is the central piece of engineering here, not that the bus, video system, tape loader and basic interpreter are trivial (the woz did all that by himself) but the star here is cheap, off shelf microprocessors.

      To be honest, a mechanical keyboard might not be the answer, it's expensive in contrast to a good standard keyboard. My keyboard is a very cheap 'DELL' standard keyboard and it really feels good in tactile and sound. In sound you really wouldn't tell the difference between mine (a rubber contact solution) and a mechanical keyboard. If you want a late 90's feel i suggest my keyboard would do just fine. I'll just check what my keyboard is called, wait a minute.... it's called sk-8115.. It is a really a cheap keyboard (Litterally i bought it for 3 dollars used, and it looked brand new when i got it). the keys on the keyboard are sticking out on the board, so you really can grab them with your fingers and wiggle them around, in contrast to laptop keyboard haha. I can always feel with the keys with my fingers where i am on this keyboard. It really feels nice when you use your keyboard a whole lot, like me, i'm a programmer so i write a lot (-:
      LOL :D anyways, you guys who are reading this, what i'm really trying to say is that the keyboard you use is important :) But you really don't have to spend all that much for a keyboard you want to try out, before you try out a expensive mechanical keyboard.

    • @reverendaero
      @reverendaero 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That Dell keyboard is actually a pretty nice keyboard for being a cheap OEM one, but a good mechanical keyboard will still blow it out of the water.

    Xerox Parc had a personal computer with a graphical userinterface and a mouse and keyboard for input in 1975. The same year, when Woz was building his machine. I wonder if he had knowledge of the Xerox Parc PC bevor he was building his Computer?

    Soooo, have you tried installing El Capitan?
    BTW, those exposed mains connections on the power switch and fuse carrier look nice and deadly, just my kind of project until kids came along.😬

      Your reply is out of context with my comment. Where in my comment did I say kids are going to touch a 700,000 dollar computer?
      My comment was referring to the exposed live mains connections, as a budding engineer, I often had projects on the go at home that would have exposed mains connections, when I became a father I had to stop.
      Kids, exposed mains and expensive equipment don't mix well.

    Да-да. С таких мы и начинали. Монитор (программа для загрузки, запуска или ввода программы в машинных кодах) и магнитная лента для хранения. Так и создавали первые программы, вводя их прямо в машинных кодах в память. Потом автокод. А когда появился ассемблер, то это казалось верхом автоматизации программирования. (Если вы понимаете о чём я вообще...)

    Are there any true replicas of this machine in which people can kinda play around with? (not an emulator, but true metal, same chips same caps same everything, just made right now). On another note, I'd like to see someone put it to practical use in present times, just to see if it can indeed be done. Example, I run a vintage collectibles store. How might I employ this device to go to work for me? (Cataloging? anything?)
