  • Changing the Guard in Windsor on Saturday the 23rd March 2024. This video features 1st battalion Welsh guards new guard, and Irish Guards old guard with musical support from 1st Battalion Irish Guards Pipes and Drums. Windsor was gradually getting busy due to the Princess of Wales, which I am wishing a speedy recovery.

      Thanks again mate!
Very nice to hear ‘St Patrick’s Day’ going into the castle/barracks now! Really awesome.
I’ve got the day off Thursday, might adventure into town to see The trombone cavalry!

Excellent😊 There's something rather imposing about the pipes and drums, both visually and sound. Nothing like the other military bands, which I love, but I've become more enamoured with these pipes and drums each time I see and hear them. The sway of the cloak and banners is almost mesmerising. Thank you for sharing this video.👍

I wish they would learn more tunes

Sadly they don’t have that much time to learn more tunes like they did in 2009 for example.

@@memphis6420 I have heard them perform other tunes, but on the march, they tend to stick to the two medleys played here. With any luck, though, they'll come up with some new/er repertoire for this year's Trooping of the Colour. I'd expect they'll participate since they are part of the 2nd Battalion, albeit No. 12 Company. No.9 Company, 2nd Battalion, Irish Guards will be doing the troop this year (presuming they have a colour presented to them before the big day. In the absence of their own, apparently they've been using the 1st battalion's.) The 2nd battalion, last placed in suspended animation in 1947, was reactivated in the fall of 2022 for public duties via companies No 9 & 12 , to compensate for 1st Battalion's unavailability due to their assignment to the 11th Security Force Assistance Brigade. I guess that explains why the 1st Battalion's Corps of Drums is no longer active. It disappeared from the scene after the 2022 Platinum Jubilee. Arguably, it was the best Corps of Drums in the Household Division. You would probably know more about all this than me, but that's my understanding.

I agree I’m afraid, the same tunes over and over again from the pipers, I’m sure they would relish some new sounds

@@e.chambers2973 I am already aware about what’s going down on the troop and I’m very very well aware what 12 Coy is, I highly doubt the Pipes & Drums will learn a new tune to play. About their Corps of Drums though, I had recently found that they’re not disbanded, but remained as a Machine Gun Platoon in Support Coy.

Irish Guards are mainly southern Irish outfit, you wont find them playing foreign Dutch tunes like the sash. I know in the North of Ireland they like their Dutch/ German/ Danish, Norman Heritage, go and find your own tunes, Billy
