embedded videos have always counted as views, that’s what those gaming guide and fandom wiki sites use all the time. they’ll run an egregious amounts of videos with youtube embeds to farm views (and destroy your ram) while you are reading on their site.

Maybe the cache of the user sessions reached its time to life and when the cache expired all user session commited an additional request.
