    We have a 2011 Kia Sorento that has that nose. Our engine is very strong still. We take care of it good with normal oil changes. I will search a local mechanic who can do this work for me. Thank you for showing me where the problem is.

      Did you end up replacing it?

    Well..yes that tensioner can cause noise on cold start. But the pin wearing in the cam advancers is louder and happens also.

  • @zxeng6064
    @zxeng6064 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Stupid question how do the teeth wear out on the tensioner if it locks in position does some other mechanism release it from time to time and why?

    • @troymattingly3071
      @troymattingly3071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those tensioners are moving slightly and vibrating, while the engine is running. They would last if they were made of better material, such as titanium. Timing chain tensioners and timing belt tensioners are, usually, the cause of these failures.

      Just finished doing all the timing components on out 2011 Sorento V6 and it still makes the same noise. Wondering if it could be the cam phasers or cams?

    Hi I have the same problem with my kia sorento lx 2011 and not only was the engine was ratting but the car was moving with it and one day i went to start the car and the battery died is that a bad thing or good thing?

    • @Duddie82
      @Duddie82 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have the same 2011 Kia Sorento. Our car makes that noise but does not shake. I am not aware your problem of a dead battery is connected. Can you still start the car?

    This must be a fault on the Kia engines for the entire life of my engine never let the oil get black and only ever used PENSOL PLATINUM , the cost to have the chain serviced is so high in Canada might as well scrap the vehicle that is in otherwise mint condition.

  • @av92
    @av92 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The question is, how much does that run somebody to fix?

    Tappets can also make this noise on startup they my need to be shimmed.

    Help! I just had chain and tensioner replaced. It still rattles on startup after 3 or 4 hrs parked ! But not everytime. What else could be causing this??!

    • @paulhotson5820

      Tappets.

    • @Matthew-nb7qp
      @Matthew-nb7qp ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's because the noise everyone hears is not the timing belt. Everyone is blowing smoke for a difficult and expensive maintenance job. But the reason they make the noise is that they have top mounted oil filters with no drain back valve and the oil must travel to and fill the oil filter to start lubricating the engine. There's actually a law suit against them right now for this terrible design

    My kia is making a soft knocking noise coming from the drivers dash board. But only when i turn on the engine, and it goes away. Then it does it again when i turn off the car and it goes away in seconds. Just started doing this 150,000miles
