    You definitely need to consult Ed on this build . Something like this just isn't complete without plywood doors and body panels.

    • @frankmcgowan9457
      @frankmcgowan9457 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Oddly, I can say that I helped my friend, Dave, build plywood doors for a CJ-5 as we fit a CJ-2 aftermarket hardtop to it. A mutual friend had totally wrecked his Jeep during the summer while the hardtop was in the garage, making that top available. The body tubs were about the same size and shape (IIRC... it's been about 45 years) but the CJ-5 had more windshield slope than the CJ-2, so the top extended past the windshield top leaving a large opening. We flattened out a piece of aluminum siding (it's what I recall we could find) and attached it to the bottom of the hardtop and the top of the windshield frame and trimmed it to fit. That made a a rather handy shelf space.
      Thus was born the "Duckbill Jeep" that was seen on central Illinois roads for several winters. 😊

    I love the steel tubing you added and your explanation of a unified body. Another way of talking about this type of construction is to say its strength comes synergistically. When I worked in the Chevy Engineering test lab, they had the Vega (1970s) floor pan on a cart. It was sagging at both ends because it was sheet metal attached to nothing. Its strength came later when it was a complete assembly, hence synergistic strength.

    Don't use a Rolock abrasive disk on a die grinder to clean things like open diff's, engines, and there covers. The sluff that spins off will stick on the oil wet parts and become an abrasive in the fresh oil. I've witnessed an engine wiped out in 30 miles right after the oil pan gasket had been replaced. All the rods were hammering. Use a good clean edge scraper/knife.

    Those rear hatch lift assist cylinders can be repurposed to the hood and you can delete the prop rod, or leave it as a backup. Did it to mine with the old, worn out ones that wouldn't hold up that heavy, fiberglass hatch, anymore. Works great!

Flag holder, cap the roof for strength and weather. Just put a simple wind and flying debris shield in that can be removed when wanted. A simple light package with rock lights etc.would come in handy. Great content for you channel and use of Jamie’s beloved Tangerine.

      An XJ is at best half stressed skin, and even then the structural floor pan gets most of its strength not from the skin but from the box sections of the frame rails and rockers. Likewise the roof skin does not contribute to the structure, only the roof rails around the edges. Hence sunroofs. Really the firewall is the only part of the unibody that contributes a whole lot of strength without having boxed tubes.

Then when a neighbor or friend asks to borrow his chainsaw, he loans them the garage sale saw and when it comes back with the engine locked up, even though he explains to the borrower at the time of the loan that it needs gas mixed with oil, he doesn't care. He goes on to further explain, that this way he is not loaning out his expensive personal saw and not coming of as a jerk, by not loaning out "his" chainsaw when a neighbor asks him for it.
