Elton was very favorite. When I heard Yellow brick road and Bennie and the jets I sat on my bed and cried. And even today the original Elton albums Tumble weed your song border song madman are still among my very favorite. I have finally forgiven Elton for changing his original style. I understand it's called the music business not the music game. May God's love shine on you and may God's blessings rain on you Shalom.
yes ! I can only imagen what he had in his mind when he wrote " I can't take any more bad water. I've been poisened from my head down to my shoes " .............and so on. Religious type that Elton. One of a kind
I think back to EJ's original Greatest Hits album (1974) which I have been consciously listening to for nearly that same span of time. Among all the brilliance there you had "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" followed by this classic. Although the two songs were recorded four years apart I always found they transitioned so seamlessly well, the one to the next. I think many people, if they did not the truth, would have thought they were from the same original album. Also got to throw a plug in for EJ's Captain Fantastic album for this same reason. The last bit of orchestra fading notes from the end of "Tell Me When the Whistle Blows" does such a job heading straight into the classic "Someone Saved My Life Tonight". Simply one of the best pop rock albums ever recorded! I don't know if there is anybody who's put out more good music than Elton!
On this day in 1970 {August 25th} Elton John began a seventeen-night run at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA... He was introduced by Neil Diamond {the 1st night}; and in the audience were Leon Russell, Quincy Jones, and future Eagles member Don Henley... Three days later "Border Song" would enter Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart for a five week stay, peaking at #92... And three months later on November 28th "Your Song" would make the Top 100 and become his first Top 10 record, reaching #8...
This song written in 1970 was especially attributed to Caleb Quaye his 1st guitarist.(10 yrs.) They were pals since the early 60's. He is a Black Guitarist and was inspirational in getting John signed by DJM. The 3rd verse is dedicated to Caleb. He is now still playing music in LA and a Born again Christian.
@Tomaso It was written in 1970 but in 1969 or 1968, you can find the original demo real here on TH-cam from 69, also the Aretha Franklin version of this is amazing
I was born in '55 and grew up listening to Elton (and Bernie's lyrics.) Aside from his 'without Bernie pop/crap period' I'm been listening for 50 years. An amazing duo. Destiny? Luck? It doesn't matter. These two were meant to be together.
@@stevenlucas893 Dreamworks is an American film production/distribution company (competitor against Disney). In 2000, Dreamworks put out a movie titled _The Road to El Dorado._ Both Elton John and Tim Rice worked together on that film after their collaboration on _The Lion King_ for Disney.
@@tintinismybelgian I thought it had something to do with Disney. Elton's music was great in the 1970's. His partner Bernie wrote the lyrics and Elton wrote the music. Great stuff, like," Funeral for a Friend ", from one of his best albums, " Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and a lot of really good Rock n Roll. But then during the 1980's he changed to more of a " pop music " artist on AM radio and Disney only ruined him more. So to me there was the Good Elton and the horrible Elton. He even did a song with John Lennon called, " Whatever Gets you Through The Night". John and Yoko were broken up for 18 months at the time. Elton told John Lennon if the song hit #1 on the billboard charts, John had to join him once live on stage to sing the song with him. It happened one night here in New York city. John appeared and him and Yoko got back together that night. Did you know Elton is Sean ( the spoiled, untalented fairy) godfather?
I like Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Recently saw his bio-pic. I was around in the 70's and enjoyed his songs at a superficial level. This song, and a lot of their other collaborations had much more profound meaning than a lot of us recognized at the time.

As a man currently living in the US and seeing how poorly immigrants and refugees are being treated by our country in 2019, this song really hits home. We need more art like this... for it is a great counter to the discrimination, dehumanization, and hate that live in this world.

From what I understand, Taupin gave John the lyrics, but John put in the last one or 2 verses. (which is what made it his first hit in the US, imo).
