    My father, was totally incredible every time he repaired something he took the time to show me how to do it. If he had to call the repairman to come to the house, he watched everything therepair man did. He never paid for the same job Twice My father was a quick learner, my father has been gone for 10 years he is definitely missed. Thanks Papi.

    Have you watched Bushradical’s cabin builds? He has a great idea for supporting for joist. After building the frame, he installs a ledger under the frame perpendicular to the joist which gives the joist a place to sit on while installing and also provide additional support for the joist.

    • @hcastro68
      @hcastro68 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clarus. the answer to this comment and clear solution is simple. If you cannot have pride in your country even at its worst moments such as in what she is in now because of the current administration and the climate it created then you clearly have never loved this beautiful country of ours. This is the ABSOLUTE time to be proud of America because it’s people are finally fighting back instead of being made to feel like criminals because we LOVE our flag, country, police and true soldiers. Our pride even at the worst of times is what will bring victory and honor BACK to America! Oh it’s still there…it’s just under attack and we are simply choosing the correct moment to unleash the true power of the people and take back what rightfully belongs to us…PROUD AMERICANS 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. As for people who don’t love America..well the southern and northern borders have doors that swing BOTH WAYS. Go try your luck in a country without a constitution. 🇺🇸just sayin 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Another pro-tip: whenever possible, cut from the side of the board that allows the wide side of the circular saw to rest on the largest piece of the wood you're cutting 👍
    Also, measure your spacing for your blocking at the rim joist so your spaces are consistent and the joists don't end up crooked 👍

    I'm currently building a 8x24 wood shed using a similar style. I found putting a ratchet strap around the two frame boards gave me enough pinch to wedge the joists in and keep them in place while nailing in the hangers. I could get about 4 to 5 joists in before having to move the ratchet strap.

    I'm not angry lol. If you put some of your drop lumber from the concrete block to below your joist it will carry the load. Nails and screws are made to hold pieces together not necessarily to carry the load. I'm 60 and that's how my father and grandfather taught me. Them old guys were smart. Now I'm the grandpa lol.

    Not nit-picking, just offering an idea, but there is no need to screw on/off the dead man block for every joist when you're using hangers, just layout all your hangers first and nail up one side. Then you can just set your joist into the hanger and there is no need for a dead man block.

  • @MrMarkRoads
    @MrMarkRoads ปีที่แล้ว

    We normally put the joist hangers on when we have the lumber on the sawhorse. You can do your layout and attach the hangers standing up. This also eliminates the need for the little blocks. This also saves time. Joists are normally 16" on center. On a project like this getting it done is what counts. These are only pointers from a grey-haired old man lol.

    Impress yourself by installing your joist hangers on your rim BEFORE installing your rim. Then you can skip the time-consuming steps added in using blocks on each joist and measuring each joist placement. Easily earn back an hour of time and minimize errors!

    • @tbfetter
      @tbfetter 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also ... make a stop block to cut all your joists (and blocking) at exactly the same length, and cut them all at once. Good call Cody on the ratchet strap... I remember when I first saw one of my teachers do that it was an eye opener. You should also use ratchet straps to pull your end joists to your target length so your blocking can all be standardized. Use one strap for every row of blocking.

  • @streetpunk99

    Put screws in the ends of your little holding blocks on top. Instead of fiddling with a strap, pin one side in place then use the screw on the other end and your claw hammer to pull the bow tight into the joist. I'm a carpenter by trade, if my super saw me getting our a strap to straighten that board he'd load my boxes in the truck for me to send me to the house
