A very well narrated video. I lived in Bombay during the nineties and travelled by this train often. Still remember the rumble of dual Alcos. Yes WCAM2 provided a solution till the DC traction got replaced.
@@AmeghakAmeghak - the train was hauled by ALCO twins (WDM series) in the beginning due to the change in traction voltage after Virar. Nice video and graphics. In earlier days, during its starting, Rajdhani express was a very good train in terms of food and comforts. Nirula's catering from Delhi and Taj catering from Mumbai served best foods. Now catering is very poor and services are at par to any other express trains.
Please provide the history and present status of Swaraj Express group of trains. The Swaraj Express has been a popular superfast train on Mumbai, Delhi and Jammutavi/SVDK since it's inception in December 1976. It used to run with diesel engine on Mumbai Central Delhi route despite Mumbai Vadodara section under wires.
Very informative pieces. I am not sure if you have made such snippets on ER King Howrah Rajdhani, the legendary trains like Kalka Mail, Golden Temple mail, or the Poorva Express (earlier called Upper India Exp). Good to see such videos from a fellow railfan
It is most certainly good storytelling and an amazing video. Many latest developments have happen on this route now. Currently inplace of one there are 3 rajdhani's serving from mumbai to delhi One leaving from Bandra Terminus and One from Mumbai Central And the third one from CSMT. The Third one instead of going vis gujarat takes a detour and goes via Madhya Pradesh
Hey man Your videos are great Please make a video on the other premium trains in India as well as on the legendary Taj Express. Your voice modulation is also perfect. BTW, which city you are from? Love from India's Business capital ❤️
Technically yes… because there are two units powering the rake. But generally MU refers to distributed traction power where the traction motors are distributed over several cars
I remember with great fondness being on the inaugural run of BCT NDLS Rajdhani highly excited as a child. Tea was served in individual Eagle vacuum glass flasks and we had to go by chair car. If I remember it was a WDM but I cannot remember if it was a single or a dual loco arrangement at the time.
I fondly remember the times when I was young and preferred to travel to then Bombay from Kota and back by ac chair car... the one way ticket then cost a whopping 400 odd rupees!
Superb video! Thanks for the information.. Much appreciated.. Awesome. I just love our trains. Diesel locomotives are my favourite. Also a bit biased towards the WAP7. I just wonder what would happen if the WAG9 would be tweaked to a top speed of 160 kms and used for passengers trains

WAP-1 never hauled Rajdhani from Bombay itself, it cannot run under DC traction. Even though whole route got electrified, Mumbai Rajdhani was hauled by twin WDM-2 from RTM till 95.
Today single locomotive is not enough. You want more speed and travel time must be shorter than must be used Push-pull method or Multiple train set. 🙏🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
The twin Diesel engines took the train from Mumbai to ratlam and from Ratlam the train was coupled by wap1 since the wdm belonged to ratlam shed changing of locomotives was done for maintenance purpose

A push-pull option with locos at either end can be a stop gap arrangement until trainsets are available to takeover. I am sure that the Railways must be thinking on similar lines Loco hauled trains (even the push-pull ones) will never match the energy efficiency or quick acceleration and braking that multiple unit trainsets will bring to the table.
