During late 1990s and early 2000s, apart from Rajdhanis and Shatabdis, I saw Rajdhani liveried WAP 1 loco only in Superfast trains like Jnaneshwari Superdelux and then in Swaraaj, whereas I saw Shatabdi liveried WCAM 2/2P/3 loco only in Superfast trains like Karnavati Superfast and then in Deccan Queen. Other mail/express trains used to get WAM4 or WCAM1 locos and WDM locos according to electrified or unelectrified section. Few passenger trains of very short distance used to get the WDS4 shunting loco as those trains routes were very small and unelectrified, those trains mainly operated in branch lines connecting the rural and remote areas having unelectrified route with very short distances like Anand Khambhat and Anand Vadtal.

Twin WDM-2s came later in the latter half of the 80s when the number of coaches were doubled. So what they showed in the movie was the real deal .. for those times.
I am sure it would have been awesome just to see the Rajdhani skip Surat. I remember seeing the 9-coach Rajdhani passing through Dadar and felt so thrilled. And my first journey on the Rajdhani happened in 1983 after it got double-headed. Those were the days when traveling in a Rajdhani meant royal treatment and you felt special. I can recall stopping at Surat outer but we went through the station slowly.
Lovely - vintage stuff - thanks dear
