Trust - the underrated element of getting things done | Jānis Erts | TEDxRiga

  • When so much in life is unpredictable, the most direct approach to personal and societal well-being is to foster trust. Trust is a habit, and like all habits, must be trained. And the best teachers? Children. Civic activist Jānis Erts outlines how we as individuals can become better at trusting, how to learn from kids, and how we can use it to move the dial in difficult situations. While marketing may be Jānis’ profession, helping people is his passion. Jānis is one of the partners of the Marketing Academy company and previously worked at the Inspired marketing agency and Latvian Radio, where he gained experience and knowledge in marketing and, more importantly, started the charity marathon Dod Pieci in 2014. Currently, he is the strategic director of the PLECS fund, an organization working to eliminate orphanages and ensure that every child in Latvia can grow up in a family setting. Janis is a strategic partner at Iespējamā Misija (Mission Possible), a part of the Teach for All network, helping implement a new approach to preparing teachers. Jānis is also the co-creator of the Mana Balss (My Voice) initiative, a civic organization that provides the citizens of Latvia a platform to promote initiatives, and ultimately have them discussed in parliament. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    He is right to a point, I always gave the benefit of the doubt, it is how our family was raised. Over time what changed that was how badly I got destroyed by people taking advantage of it, after many years of that I learned to be less naive. Now days it comes down to starting with limited trust, and they can earn the rest. Something you can never train out of a human, is being human, great wishful thinking and theory on his part though.

      @@aylbdrmadison1051 I think he's not advocating lying as such , more likely something along the lines of "fake it 'til you make it" ,believing/acting as if you have self-confidence to get people to trust/work with you and together. Regardless ,what he says after the 10' mark is what I'm referring to.

    We grow in time to trust the future for our answers. However, it can be hard to trust when all we have from the past is evidence why we should not. Which is why we should not trust words; we should trust only actions 🖖

    "Part of the difficulty in developing trust is your attempt to do impossible things. Therefore, it is necessary for us to counsel you not to do impossible things. They require great energy, even though they seem to stimulate your sense of self-determination. The more difficult the adversity, the greater the prize and the greater the sense of personal reward you anticipate. But in the end, it all becomes impossible and you give up. Then you have the opportunity to know something.
    When something is true and you are working at it, even if there is adversity, it is a whole different experience. Everything makes you stronger not weaker. Here cooperation and adversity both activate Knowledge even more powerfully. Instead of becoming weaker, you become stronger. Instead of becoming more disassociated, you become more certain."

    I’d argue the definition of a lie, that it should include an intent to deceive rather than an intent to understand, which is an entrepreneurial venture and destined to failure (as is the fate of all theory).

    1:12 He fully admits to *lying to gain trust,* then tries to convince us that *he knows* that to gain the trust of others, we must also lie. It does not work that way, trust is a 2-way street and he just proved beyond all reasonable doubt his word cannot be trusted.
    That's a damned shame too because the other things he says are healthy and true. But he has broken trust already and left the door wide open for others to mistrust the good things he does say.

    • @jodhan90
      @jodhan90 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What he describes is more the way our current system works.
      And by admitting that he has done the same he shows what is wrong in the system and that it isn't just something other people are doing.
      The problem is everywhere in marketing. Most of the time people don't trust you, so they rather tell you a lie than taking a risk in telling the truth.
      How often have you seen someone that says: My product is mediocre but at least it works.

    If We Would Actually Teach Speak and Expect The Social Connective of Spirit To Spirit Nurture Of Love and Logic as First Value Equally Toward Each Other ' Then Trust Would Be a 'Bi- Product' of Actively Wanting The Best For Each Other as First Value' Because Nothing Else Would Actually Make Any Sense!?! - Then 'Not Trusting' Would Become So Dichotomizing' or 'Opposite' of Our Intentional Multi Spirit Progressive Nurture and Understanding!_ But That Is an 'Advanced Mentality' We Ignorantly and Arrogantly Dont Trust Yet 😶 So We Carrie On Worshipping The Problem! _ Be The Peace We Say We Seek!?!'
