    Would have left a much bigger hole if you had some lighter loads for it like 55 or 80 grains.

    The new camera set up sure looks good too, no more bass in the audio though. Much more clear now sounds like I'm there at the range through my tower speakers.
    Nice shades btw, great video!

    How about using the bipod and a bench and really taking aim through that scope to really have a good chance of hitting the same spot on the target? You're a good shot, if the steel stopped swinging it would be a lot easier for you at that range. Maybe put the normal thickness AR500 next to the 3/4 in. AR 500 and see how each one holds up.? Thanks for the video.

    In the previous video I believe you were using a 80g varmint round. You should try those again. As well as see if you can find even lighter ammo for the 243 or other calibers you have. I am curious to see if having a lighter faster bullet of the same caliber will hit it harder. Also maybe some hot hand loads!

    The REASON why it went deeper at the edge is because metal targets are softer on the edge during cutting process. While cutting with torch, plasma or laser it generates heat at the edge and softening the metal.

      The target steals perhaps a few feet per second from the total. That amount is far less then the rounding error of E=MV to calculate effectiveness.

    • @Bob5mith
      @Bob5mith 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jones I have no doubt that stationary targets take more damage. I'm less sure it would make any _significant_ difference in this exact circumstance. I agree it should be tested.

    I'd imagine the bullet construction has a lot to do with it. For instance, if I shot .223 Rem 55-grain softpoints at an AR500 plate, it would either leave a very shallow crater or not one at all, depending upon the distance and plate thickness. If I shot 5.56mm 55-grain FMJ at the same AR500 plate, it would either leave a deep crater, or burn through, depending upon the distance and plate thickness.

    A friend of mine made a custom AR500 target for his girlfriend's father. The edge of the target was damaged in a similar manner by a lowly 30-30. The reason it was damaged so badly is because the target was torch cut, which makes the edges brittle.

    243 is still one of my favorite calibers. i own 223, 25-06, 270, 30-06, 300wm and always go back to 243.

      Nice range of calibers 👍🏼
      How would you compare the .243 to the .25-06?

    • @af7119
      @af7119 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewknight1910 Thanks! noticeably more recoil (although still mild compared to .270 or .308) 25-06 is more powerful, but less ammo choices are available. If you're into handloading the possibilities with .243 are endless. Lastly the rifles are lighter in .243 so easier to carry for long periods.

    Thought it would make a deeper hole...Maybe a 243Wssm will go trough, they have 1000fps more.
    A 17 Remington would be interesting too!

    You need to get ahold of some sabot rounds for the win mag you can shoot a 55grain bullet at over 5000fps and it will go through 1/2" ar500

  • @MrJ120

    Try some 165 grain 300 RUM. It's almost 3400 fps. That's going to poke a hole in that thing.

    You need to try 55gr because they are like 4000 fps
