  • Peek through time and discover the rich history of most prestigious church in the Philippines, the Manila Cathedral. This animated video showcases the different facades the cathedral sported since it was established in 1571. Archival photographs, illustrations, and blueprints were translated to three-dimensional models visualizing the cathedral’s architectural evolution.
Manila Cathedral: An Architectural Evolution is the output of a research study from Mapúa Institute of Technology (now Mapúa University) under the School of Multimedia and Visual Arts (now School of Media Studies), entitled: A Three-Dimensional Presentation of Manila Cathedral's Architectural Evolution. Through the lens of the Medium Theory by Marshal McLuhan, Aesthetic Realism, and Multimedia Learning Principles by Richard Mayer, a digital three-dimensional presentation was produced.

Great work! This could be a start for bringing back at least in 3 D, the many lost architectural treasures of Manila and other cities. However, some important points perhaps: 1. Manila was not discovered by Legazpi, he conquered it from the Tagalogs. Discover makes it sound like there was no one there when he came. 2. The bell tower of the Cathedral was destroyed by an earthquake in 1880 after surviving the previous quakes. It's top fell to the house across the street. There was no tower until the war destroyed all of the cathedral 3. The background buildings should have at least been "bahay na bato" or hipped roof shapes, to give an idea of how it looked like in its surroundings. Just some points for improvement. But good work! :)
