During the British colonization of Malaya, Malays were shipped to South Africa & Western Australia. So if the Philippines was not returned to the Spaniards, there is a possibility that more Indian slaves will be brought to the Philippines (Singapore have many Indians aside from Chinese) and some Filipinos would be shipped as slaves to Australia and South Africa. And then after World War II, Philippines will be split into two, the Christians (Luzon, Mimaropa & Visayas) and the Muslims (Mindanao merging with Malaysia) similar to the separation of India & Pakistan, and there will be tension in the Sulu Sea.
The presence of Indians in the Philippines is because of the Sepoy (British East Indies Indian Soldiers) who decided to stay in the country plus some as labor for the British.
Something to note: British Sarawak was and perhaps still is majority Christian. So maybe it would be Luzon Visayas and Sarawak plus parts of Mindanao or most of Mindanao was also heavily Christian by that time

The British would have imposed the same colonial policies as they imposed on India, Malaysia, and Singapore where segregation based on race and religion would have been codified that intermarriages would have been prohibited under the British exploitative colonial model. Filipinos during the British invasion of Manila rightfully resisted the British because they were plunderers like the Japanese during WWII. The British were not that interested in making their non-white colonial subjects as British citizens until today that many pre-1997 Hong Kongers couldn't escape HK from mainland China permanently because they were not British citizens in the first place, unlike Macanese who are considered as Portuguese citizens by Portugal and China.
The Japanese invaded the Philippines because its a threat for their invasion of the Dutch East Indies' Oil Fields plus we were an American Commonwealth whos Washington impose an Embargo against Japan. Same reason against the French Indochina and British Malaya.
@@ianendangan7462 True. Although, in theory, even if no one colonized the Philippines, if Japan wanted to invade the Dutch East Indies for their oil, they would've gone through us anyway. Either just by boat, or if they were ambitious, to expand their territory further south from Formosa.
@@moondust2365 or they could have forced us to join them like how Hitler did with some European nations or what the Japanese did with Thailand. Not sure about india but there are no segregation law in singapore and segregation law in Malaysia was made by local leader after independence from British. British in other hand encouraged and forcing the people in Malaysia regardless of race and religion to be united as conditions for them to give independent. There no law during British colonisation that said people from different race or religion cant get married, its the local law that disallow that.
India and Sri Lanka is still struggling though. I think Singapore's and Hong Kong's success can be attributed to their Chinese heritage and hustle culture. Also, housing in Hong Kong is a nightmare, it's so small and expensive compared to the Philippines. Most Singaporeans just live from paycheck to paycheck. China, Japan and South Korea was never colonized by the British yet they are doing good.
Your forgetting that Japan was under American control after world war 2 and China doing well is questionable at best being a communist country that as social credit system that tracks its citizens. Just saying.
@@ronlhubbard1353 Although Japan became under the US. There is not much that can be attributed to the US in regards to their economic boom. Its problem is something that can be compared to other 1st world countries. But they are definitely more progressive now than even Russia in almost all regards.

I do not know how accurate the account from the history book I read. It was indicated that the that may of the rulers the islands of the Philippines including Manila(Rajah Matanda, Rajah Soliman, Lakandula and the Sultanate of Sulu) are blood relative or vassals of the ruling house(dynasty) of the Sultanate of Brunei(House of Bolkiah). It is indicated that Rajah Matanda, Rajah Suliman and Lakandula are ruling Manila as vassals of the fifth Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Bolkiah. If the said accounts are true, then the current ruler of Brunei has more claim to be the actual ruler of parts of the Philippines versus the so called Tallano Clan of the Maharlika Kingdom. If the Sultan of Brunei will claim the Philippines versus the claim of the Tallano Clan of the Maharlika Kingdom this will also reinforce our claim of Sabah as will as Sarawak & Kalimantan.
Well, in that case. 1. The country name of "philippines" doesnt't exist. Since the word philippines named next to king phillip II. 2. Today, Roman catholic is the main religion of the philippines, Introduced by spaniards during colonization. So i think if british colonized us, the fate of our religion may change. 3. Our beliefs and practices may divert from colonizer. 4. Some of our language/word may change even name of things, place, name of person etc. We are able to talk specifically bristish accent.
1. Not sure what the country name is, But, for me it could be like new virginia, georgia etc. or even new victoria. We might keep the name Philippines since King Phillip II used to be married to Queen Mary of England. 2. Christianity remains as the majority religion. Within the denominations, Protestantism will be the biggest. Catholicism could be second or third or fourth. We would have alot of anglicans, methodists, episcopalians etc. Aglipayans would still be established. Not sure about Iglesia ni Cristo (unless Felix Manalo doesn't establish INC, he would have joined either Methodists or Seventh day Adventist, he could have joined Aglipayans but most of their doctrines were mainly Catholic). Muslim population would increased but it will remain as the biggest minority religion in the country. Buddhism and Chinese Folk religions would flourish. Hinduism might flourish as well. 3. I don't know how to explain this part. 4. The Filipino Language and other regional languages/dialects would be drastically changed. There would have been a decrease in Spanish influence/loan words. We would sound almost like the Malaysians and Indonesians. Our english will sound like malaysians and singaporeans. Chinese(mandarin, cantonese, hokkien etc) would be a major language. Usually, Indians in South east asia were from southern india, therefore, tamil telugu would be recognized languages as well including Hindi and possibly Sanskrit. Arabic is still a recognized language. Chavacano language lives on.

Many Filipinos have the notion that if we were still colonised we will be rich and have white priviledge. No, colonisers will never let that happen, to them we will always be slaves and resources to be exploited to make themselves rich. If there are Ex colonised countries that got rich, it's from their hard work and what they did after being colonised that got them to where they are. They're still vulnerable to corruption. Even in UK where I am, they have a corrupt elitist government.
If the Philippines had become a British colony and Manila was never returned to the Spaniards, it could have had a profound impact on Malaysia and the broader Southeast Asian region. The presence of a British-controlled Philippines could have influenced trade routes, diplomatic relations, and regional dynamics in ways we can only imagine. Malaysia might have found itself in a different geopolitical landscape, potentially facing new challenges and opportunities with a neighboring British territory. It's intriguing to consider how such a scenario could have shaped Malaysia's history and its relationship with the Philippines and other Southeast Asian nations. Thank you, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Datu Kirby, for sparking this thought-provoking discussion! 🌟
1. if philipines was colonized by british then the country will be more diverse in term of religion and the local culture will remain strong as british dont put to much effort in spreading their religion and culture to local people, like example in colony of north boreo modern day sabah, reigion demoghraphics in sabah have more paganism then muslim and christian by 1960. even christian in sabah it self is diverse with different sect and protestant is not majority even though british is predominantly protestant. 2. instead of being one big colony, philippines probably divided in different region based on different kingdom to be british protector state and philippines may have been a constitual monarchy and a federation country just like malaysia today. british may also try to unite philippines with nearby british teritory to be one independence country like what they do with malaya, singapore, sabah, sarawak and brunei to unite as malaysia today. btw i cant wait to see u covering the topic with sabah. as fan from malaysia, this may been a very controversial topic to be discuss but i hope u can cover the topic fairly. i wish u the best and thank u for the hard work.
Hi Kirby, nice to hear from you again. Nice insert and insight on Bulacan and Pampanga. The taga-ilog (Tagalog) and pampang ng ilog (Pampanga) are old time neighbors and ethymology.
Why the British attacked Manila? It is because of the the overlapping of territories or colonies of the French and the British in north America. That resulted in the seven years war. It was only between the British and the French. But why the British attacked Manila?. You did not mention that the King of Spain and the King France are cousins I am not sure but they are blood related. The King of England sees that Spain is supporting France so they invaded Manila retaliation for the support of Spain to France. The Spaniards in Manila were caught unaware to the invasion. They also fired canons but their canons are well maintained. Most of the canons are rusting. The Philippines did not develop as that of other English colonies like Australia,Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia it's because Spain is a farming country. The Spaniards did not teach us how to develop our industries like manufacturing goods and sold it abraoad. Whereas the English were the first to start the industrial revolution and they help their colonies in developing their industries. They give priority to education. Under the Spanish rule only the rich can have proper education.

The Spanish empire though not perfect or innocent, was a wise Greece and imperial Rome, where as the British empire was like a Turkish Corsair. This may sound crazy to some, but I think it was good it stayed Spanish more or less. Not British. Believe me, The British would have been much crueler and much worse. They probably would have sold some Filipinos into slavery and is there evidence or inclination to believe that they probably would have done so. The Spanish would have mixed and assimilated more with the culture and people. The British, not so much. The British empire was like a Turkish corsair. The Spanish although cruel in their own ways and they did have slaves of their own, but they somehow assimilated them and handled them differently compared to the British. The Their big thing was religion more or less, but that is not to say they were by no means perfect or saints so to speak. Yeah yeah, the Spanish were cruel but believe me they were not that bad, if u know what I mean. So for me, Spain. Spain is very beautiful. Plus, Spanish is sexier and more flavor and spicy 😉 they come from and are more of a white European Mediterranean culture, and to some degree, exotic, compared to the really white European British. The Spanish are different. Let us not hate but appreciate what they contributed, and appreciate the hybritity of our culture.and learn to live in the now. Btw, I like UK and SPAIN.
Another video I enjoyed. But I'm going to disagree that the current racial tensions in the USA can be blamed on Britain. Remember the British left the USA in 1776 and since then there have been many different nationalities who have settled there - probably starting with other European countries. Other countries such as Singapore, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan have been linked to the UK for much longer, and don't seem to have the same issues with white nationalist groups, as the USA. Even the former Burma (now Myanmar) that had 3 wars against the British and suffered some terrible treatment cannot claim the current internal strife is the result of British colonialism.

@@ianendangan7462 No, not true. How can the Philippines be an American Commonwealth if it is a British Colony?????
Maybe besides the fact that they don't have to focus on the military anymore. But still, most of that is due to the Japanese themselves.

1. if philipines was colonized by british then the country will be more diverse in term of religion and the local culture will remain strong as british dont put to much effort in spreading their religion and culture to local people, like example in colony of north boreo modern day sabah, reigion demoghraphics in sabah have more paganism then muslim and christian by 1960. even christian in sabah it self is diverse with different sect and protestant is not majority even though british is predominantly protestant.
2. instead of being one big colony, philippines probably divided in different region based on different kingdom to be british protector state and philippines may have been a constitual monarchy and a federation country just like malaysia today. british may also try to unite philippines with nearby british teritory to be one independence country like what they do with malaya, singapore, sabah, sarawak and brunei to unite as malaysia today.

They probably would have sold some Filipinos into slavery and is there evidence or inclination to believe that they probably would have done so. The Spanish would have mixed and assimilated more with the culture and people. The British, not so much. Look at Australia, predominantly white, new Zealand, predominantly white, south Africa, predominantly white, etc, etc. The Spanish empire was like a wise Greece and imperial Rome. The British empire was like a Turkish corsair.
