Another brilliant video, thanks Peter. You and I are the same age, so I really appreciate your material like this. Being just a year or two away from retiring, Jomtien is one of the places I'm seriously considering so videos like this one are very illuminating.

Thank you for the video. I think Jomtien is more suitable for me. It seems to have a slower pace but still plenty of action. Plus, Pattaya is 10 minutes away.

In june i stayed at the Avalon Beach Resort to the right at the beach road, just before you made your turn(3:35 in the video). It was a very nice place with a nice pool. Not many people, du to some C19 lingering effects i guess.
The reason i choose this is that my friend lives in a condo very close.
I can really recommend the Akvavit restaurant(5:01 in the video) if you want some Swedish/Western food, it's the best (according to me) restaurant in Pattaya, just slightly better than Beefeater.

Thanks for taking us along for the ride Peter. It reminds me of A1A in Florida where you have the beach and the palm trees. would like to enjoy the quieter side of Thailand away from the Bars and Noise. Nice way to end the video too bad you couldn't play when the lights go down in the city by Journey. Thanks for providing all your great content as only uncle Peter can do. It was cool watching you let that motorbike rip. Hi Peter, There is a small airfield marked near Jomtien called 'Jims Airport' [sic]. Could this be the one you remember? Also, I doubt if the lighthouse is real, I think it's a folly. The reason for this is that lighthouses are usually built near promontories, islands or rocks. I've never seen one half way along a quiet beach. Thanks for the nice video, I'll be staying at Jomtien for six weeks from the start of December, maybe see you around. Cheers.

In the 80s / early 90s, Jomtien road was a desolate trek.
The road was paved, but with long stretches with virtually no permanent development.
-- We were working at the Sattahip military complex.
On the drive to Pattaya, the baht bus drivers (chartered) could reach very scary speeds.

I think there is another explanation for fully booked hotels. Downsizing, less hotel stuff and rooms shot for two years. Another thing is all Asian travelers seems to get a room in another part of the hotel, is it devided to have same category of guests? This is my thoughts. Also heard price are also different. I see strange things but i have no proof of what is going on. One hotel was empty in many floors. Got off wrong floor in the elevator, that's why I know.

I think many Condo owners only come during the winter then leave it empty the rest of the year. I see a lot of the Asian travelers in North Pattaya, not much in the other areas. Its like anywhere, you could rent a cheap bedsit or as you say go into the millions for super luxury . However I agree with your philosophy of always renting. I see being a grey nomad in Thailand as a far more attractive option than being tied to a condo I wont know if or when I could ever sell it or even get my investment back. I have a couple of workmates that own condos there but I see no point in a holiday house in Thailand its dead money.

I'm living very comfortably here for less than $1500 a month..Once I start cooking with an Air Fryer/Skillet it will cut my daily food cost to under $10 instead of $20--$25. In my opinion eating out at restaurants here just isn't worth the $$$. But I do know a few good ones where I'll go maybe once or twice on the weekend. A fun night out with 2 or 3 beers, shoot some pool, talk to a few pretty girls can be had for $10 or $15..if you want to go further with the fun it's about $40-$75 for the whole night.

I may change my mind and leave the UK in year 3 but I still comparatively enjoy it here. Are you tied up in a property on a yearly (rate) contract?

@@marklawson8022 No problem Im glad to answer any questions. Yes the 800 and 400 is in dollars. I think if one eats out every meal every day it's going to cost at least $25 and that's for very average food, I"m like why bother? 7/11 has some really good frozen thai chicken/rice with egg for about $1.25 that I nuke at home then cook in a pot..I truly think it's better than 90% of the $10 restaurants. Also, some cooks don't wear shirts, have cigarettes hanging from their mouths while they cook your food. The safest way to eat out is the franchise restaurants, way better than amateur hour. I won't eat street vendor food unless it's cooked right in front of me like the Chicken/Beef/Lamb Kebabs or Indian food cooked in a big wok, usually chicken, rice, veggies plus excellent sauce. The good thing is there is a big variety of western food choices along with Thai meals and thousands of food marts, 7/11's everywhere. As far as my Condo contract I got lucky my landlord is a friendly German guy who lives in the Condo next to me. He only asked for a 1 month deposit, almost everybody else asks for 2 months deposit which many people never get back. It's called The Residence in Jomtien you can easily check it out via google. Yes, I"m locked in for a year I hope to stay here for much longer. I estimate if this Condo was near the beach in Miami it would cost $600,000 but here it sells for about $60,000. 'll also say I'm a couple of clicks away from the beach and the Thai's are much friendlier the further you get away from the beach. A couple of downsides is basically all of Asia has bad air pollution and many of the foreigners are single men who look like zombies, totally anti-social but I knew about this before I got here. If a man has $1,500 a month and is willing to accept a few minor inconveniences I'll grade this lifestyle an A- or B+.

I am in Bangkok and I'm afraid you won't find much for 5,000 Baht...Even the bar girls pay more than that for rooms but normally share.
