Sir, we were wondering what your thoughts were on "Freshpet". Years ago, we use to feed our younger dog, boiled chicken mixed with a bit of kibble. Her BMs were never quite right. Removed the chicken from her diet, with beef Freshpet, and she was "immediately" great. That is up until we switched her to Farmer's Dog. Anyway, looking to put her back to Freshpet, after we troubleshoot her allergies with the Hills hydrolyzed protein kibble. Thank you.

Hey- my dog does best on grain free. I have tried other grain dog foods and they have been hard on her stomach. Is this ok in your opinion if it works for her? Ive tried a couple different options for her.

Well, I understand your dog dies well on certain diets. That’s true of every dog. And sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason. That’s why you can’t judge s food quality based on your own dog but you need to find which one works for them. The grain free trend came strictly from marketing and has absolutely nothing to do with nutrition. Having g said that, the FDA went way overboard claiming grain free diets were causing DCM. While there still is no causality discovered, there’s still a link somehow. But there’s more questions than answers. Personally I don’t think you have to worry but I would not feed a grain free food, just to reduce the risk. Hills and Purina make sensitive stomach diets(I’ve used for years). If you’re really concerned you could try one of those. God, I’d hate to tell you don’t worry about it and your dog would be the one in a million that has heart issues! But it’s the whole premise of my channel. Use nutrition to reduce risks! Hope that helps!

What would be a good quality low fat food I have a miniature schnauzer and a schnoodle?

Melissa, what’s the purpose? If just a low fat high fiber diet for both Science Diet Light. If for weight loss I’d use Science Diet Perfect Weight to activate their metabolism to burn off the extra body fat.

@@PetFoodPuzzleGuy Thank you for your response. They are prone to pancreatitis due to there breed was told only feed a low fat diet, but with so many foods out there I just want to make sure there getting a good quality food.

@@melissamiller4656 many of the pancreatitis I saw was when folks offered people food during holidays. But Light would be a good choice for maintaining their weight. But yes, many of the newer foods are extremely high in fat. That’s why they are All Life Stage food, high enough for growing puppies!

Sheila, I can understand what you’re saying but to be honest, there are plenty of people on social media telling you exactly what to feed. What good is that? Why should you believe me or anyone else? How to you defend yourself against clever, great sounding marketing? Sorry, but I spend time making my videos so those who are truly interested will start understanding how to evaluate foods for themselves rather than being told. If you want a short answer…. Done feed anything that says All Life Stages. Don’t feed anything using the dishonest term Holistic. Means nothing and will be overpriced! Stick to the larger companies with board certified vet nutritionists. If you’re not going to learn how ingredient panels are manipulated to deceive you, don’t look at them! How’s that? Quick enough answer!
