You beat me to it. It was a real struggle for her, but there she is, lighting up the stage. One of my favorite singers and humans is Christina Perri (A Thousand Years) and she's the same way. She always says she feels like throwing up before she goes on stage, but once she's there, she looks like she was born to be there.
You know how I feel about James having seen him in Concert, Wish l had gotten a chance to see Carly Simon or Carole King. Both were great songbird's in the 60's and 70's 🐦 🦜 Peace 😍✌️ and Love❤ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 🕺💃 such a great song and Great Reaction👍 "That's The Way l Always Heard It Should Be" and "Your So Vain" 2 Carly Simon song's that were very popular. Please 🙏 and Thank-You 😅
Saw him in NJ....a 10 dropped to a 7 due to over production. Too many supporting instrumentalists drowned him out. Like John Denver and Jim Croce.... the key is the man and his guitar. Others instruments can enhance, if they don't overshadow. ...believe James Taylor brought in too many musicians with good intention, to give fans a "full" show.
Never did get to see Carly Simon but the second time out of the 3 times I saw James Taylor his opening act was none other than Carole King and they even did a couple of duets!
Beautiful and fun performance by Carly and James. Please react to Carly's great music some you may know such as "You're So Vain" and "That's The Way l Always Heard It Should Be".
I just have to give a shout-out to his fabulous band here. great LA studio musicians whose touring with James Taylor shot them to the top of their profession in the studio and touring and they are still all playing and going strong today. Waddy, Leland, and Russ…love you guys. 😁
I watched an incredible interview of Carly Simon from 2016 by Dan Rather as part of his fantastic series “The Big Interview”. At first, they were so much in love. But Carly had had a very distant father who never gave her approval, and so she was very emotionally needy with James. But the more she sought closeness the more he withdrew. He also had some major depression issues and addictions. He got clean in 1980’s and as far as I know is married to his third wife of over 20 years. What was so poignant in the interview was that Rather asked Carly if she still loved James. She said yes, that he was the love of her life. She never remarried.
@ wow. Ok. Siri was dead wrong. I’m shocked! Shocked I say!! I’m making light, but actually I haven’t caught “her” in such a stupid error before. Alexa says she’s still married to her second husband. Which makes it a bit awkward that she said that James was the love of her life in that interview in 2016. Actually Alexa just said she was still married to James Taylor too! What a neat trick! Now , if I can’t trust Siri OR Alexa, HOW CAN I COPE? Actually, thanks for pointing that out. What a dumb mistake. I guess I’ll have to back to actually googling for information. Sigh.
Hey Helene, I remember that interview. There is also a good book out from years ago "Boys in the Trees" about her life. I do believe James was the love of her life, she just couldn't 'fix' him as he battled his addictions and depression. Her song "That's the Way I Always Heard it Should Be" is hauntingly spot on. I imagine it is bittersweet to see him content with another family later in his life..
She said in an interview a few years ago that she was too needy or hungry for love and he wasn’t able to come through for her. He retreated more and more into his drugs. She seems to never have gotten over him. They both remarried . They had a son, Ben and a daughter Molly I believe. He had two sons in his second marriage.❤❤ I light both of them a lot and have of their albums. I saw him in concert. He’s very entertaining. He’s a real storyteller and he has a soothing voice.❤
You saw the same interview I did I think; with Dan Rather? But according to google and Siri, Carly never remarried and still referred to James in the interview as the love of her life.
She has said in interviews he was the love of her life. BUT.... his drug addiction was all to consuming, and she had to remove herself from that. This is a great duet!
You really need to check out some Carly. Everyone will tell you that one you have to check out by her is "You're So Vain" which is one of the iconic songs of pop music from the 20th century
I drank a lot of cold beers back then and partied with the best of them , today I am 68 yrs old seven children and seven grand children , I've slowed down a lot since those days.
So fun to see them perform together. James Taylor could be a bit wild when he wanted to be 😄check out a performance of 'Steamroller Blues' to see more of that side of him.
Yes this is a smile, the love and lust is palatable. Other commentators are noting this as a golden moment in a doomed romance. Carly quietly picked up James ending things cruelly with Joni Mitchell . As she writes in bio "Boys in the trees" most of her life she was paralyzed as a solo by stage fright. Carly writes some catchy tunes about love You're so Vain (Warren Beatty) and Anticipation (Cat Stevens) the Martha Vineyards session of both will charm you two. Moody and broody drug addled James Taylor broke alot of hearts including his own.
the musicians in his band...bassist, guitarist, drummer, became the new "Wrecking Crew" of LA; first call studio guys. Still play today and tour with various bands and artists.....They were known as The Section. There is a segue here: They joke among themselves that one thing they have in common is that all of them have been fired by James Taylor.😏
Yes, this was adapted from the traditional lullaby. Many artists have performed it, including Yo-Yo Ma. Two fantastic singer/songwriters on stage. \o/ ☮🤎🎶
GREAT Reaction as always and Happy 2025 from Western Canada to both of you Dear Souls! I think may also enjoy their Heavenly harmonies of their Devoted To You duet! Have fun, sending you much Love, stay well and Blessed! From Calgary, Alberta! Shawn
Are you aware they were married? Such a great song? Actually a cover , I prefer this 💎 Two great singers, multi talented. Very popular in early 70s. I believe their both performing on their own in 2025. Great performance!!! So much fun.
Love Carley Simon too! Being a teenage boy in the early-mid 1970’s, had a huge crush on Carley Simon as well as the Wilson sisters of Heart😁 Check out Carly Simon doing “Anticipation “ or “Haven’t Got Time For The Pain”. She also had a huge hit with a song from the 007 James Bond movie franchise called, “The Spy Who Loved Me”. Please checkout one of those Carley Simon tunes😉👍
James had an alcohol and drug problem back then. Carley is the daughter of Richard L. Simon co owner of Simon and Shuster Publishing company. She was born with a gold spoon in her mouth. Highly rich. To this day, she still loves James but he eventually moved on, settled down and he and his current wife have a set of twin boys who are now grown. Carley and James had a daughter and son and they are also grown.
Yes, she was born to wealthy parents....and a father who was distant and unloving and withheld approval....which created a huge emotional void that she tried to fill in her relationship with James. What a mismatch: She was desperately seeking love and approval, he was emotionally withdrawn, suffered from depression and addiction. Terribly sad for both of them.
indeed! Lee, Waddy and Russ Kunkel on drums....along with Danny (Kooch) Kortchmar (guitar) formed The Section...who kinda took over as first-call studio guys from the legendary Wrecking Crew of the 50's and 60's. Have you watched their marvelous documentary by Danny Tedesco called The Immediate Family? If not..seek it out. it is FANTASTIC. And, as you probably know, Lee has a great TH-cam channel.
No. She wrote that in 1972, when they were newlyweds and happy. Speculation has always been either Warren Beaty, or Mick Jagger. Jagger sings on the studio version, which is a very cheeky touch by Carly.
If you like the love between them (which, sadly, didn't last) you should check them out at home singing the beautiful You Can Close Your Eyes. th-cam.com/video/mjksn8mEt8M/w-d-xo.html
Oh how sweet… Too bad they couldn’t stand each other, it ended up in a divorce! And her having a hit with the song about him, entitled you’re so vain!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Divorce and heartbreak are NEVER funny. You lack empathy. They did not hate each other. They were just a mismatch. And of course there was his addictions combined with depression which made him less than ideal to live with. And You’re so Vain was not about Taylor. She wrote it in 1972 when they were newlyweds and still very much in love.So 😂😂😂😂 right back atcha. You must have been VERY unlucky in love to have such a cynical view
This is a fun song sung by a husband & his wife team during a great time for them.
Hard to believe that carly Simon suffers from extreme stage fright before her performances
