At the time of independence, 100% of all Hindus, 100% of Sikhs go to India and 100% of all Muslims to Pakistan were proposed but Hon'ble Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru opposed this.
The reason was that Jawaharlal Nehru's daughter was married to a Muslim (male) in a mosque on 26 March 1942.
Feroze Khan Feroze Khan and Indira Gandhi had a love marriage. Feroze Khan was in the freedom struggle, then started journalism and settled in North India. He met Indira Gandhi in London and the two got married in a mosque. Ms. Indira Gandhi's Muslim name was "Maimona Begum". When Nehru came to know about this, he realized that it might affect his political life.
At that time Nehru was the Prime Minister of India. So she said that her son-in-law is not a Muslim but a Parsi and gave him the surname Gandhi.
It is also said that Mahatma Gandhi gave Indira his surname Gandhi and Feroze Khan became Feroze Gandhi thereafter. After the birth of Rajiv in 1942, the couple separated. Because the relationship between them has never been good.
Indira Gandhi was separated from Feroze Gandhi when Sanjay Gandhi was born and he is said to be the son of Muhammad Younis. Senior Congress leader Mohammad Younis has written in his book that "Sanjay Gandhi was circumcised in the Muslim way".
Feroze Khan's tomb is also in Allahabad and if he was a Parsi, his tomb would not have been built. So it is clear that Feroze Khan was a Muslim but he adopted Gandhi surname.
