Not just economic criteria, but mandal commission gave set of 11 points and in short they said it should be based on social, educational and economic progress of a community.

But subsequently and specifically mandal commission gave it importance and included it as one of the criteria.
So OBC reservation does have economic criteria. Further Supreme Court introduced creamy layer concept in OBC reservation. Creamy layer is an economic criteria.
Recent Economically weaker section reservation have economic criteria.
So in short EWC and OBC does have it as one of the criteria.
But one may always argue that weather economic criteria in reservation is correct or not?
As a matter of fact economic criteria is being implemented in India.

Supreme court should make it clear, Reservation shall not exceed 50percent under any circumstances.
1.Reservation should not exceed 50% quota as per Indira shawhney judgement 1992
2.Changing social & economic Dynamics of reserved caste should be analysed sociologically & statistically
3. Creamy layer demarcation needs to be there for Sc&st as reservation is meant for those who truly deserve it .
4.income -based reservation is required
5.other forms of affirmative actions like empowerment & enhancement of minority & deprived classes from Early childhood is the need of hour .
Above measures regarding reservation would be undertaken only when politics on reservation & vote bank consideration recedes into background & deep motive of directive principles of state policy is realised ( social justice for true upliftment ¬ misusing it for political gain .

Reservation provision should have been for few decades at max, Incredible Indian politics that instead of thinking about removing the reservation, we are considering the extension of reservation, 🤣🤣, And still we are thinking that India will become superpower without concerning the merit.

Creamy layer should bring in for SC, STs otherwise only a particular section will eat the cream and exploit downtrodden.
Similarly Brahmin Son should not become priest,Kshatriya Kids should not benefit from caste status as they were kings and landlords and village head neither Vaishya Kids should not get business benefits.

reservation is just as a for push or upliftment of the weaker society in the country, so they could move aline with the the other classes of the society. but somewhere reservation breaching the basic principles of Reservation which must be look into and review the reservation criteria again. we are now living in technology driven world, but somewhere some group or tribes being lack of opportunities, for them we can go for reservations with keep in mind that this action would not effect the the other class. if do reservations above 50% it might collapse the entire government system.another aspect is we need to go toward review the reservation again and make criteria like annual income of the family, we know that backwards class, they don't have money to complete their basic needs like education, health etc. i think annual income should be the base for the reservation.

@@rumi_das_biswas there are other parameters too. In OBCs, children of Grade A officers, engineers, doctors, judges etc are considered part of creamy layer.

Jains who constitute 3% pay 24% of tax and don't create stir for reservations; Anyone who is selected to work for Govt must work for all the citizens of the country regardless of his/her caste. Surnames should not decide who benefits from governance, proportional representation based on community is akin to creating parallel governance structures and has nothing to do with alleviating deprivation related problems. For this caste must be demolished ; as an initial step , govt may amend CRS related statutes to exclude caste in the names of newborn children such that official records seldom indicate caste

In Central govt, uc comprises 70% govt job, population is less than 25%, they r overrepresented.
