Haha this was so much fun and challenging at the same time. You're a strong and technical man Mark. It was a pleasure to spend time together and we should do it again soon rather than later!
Would love to see more videos like this discussing the differences in techniques with other coaches. It can be confusing hearing various training points from coaches without context about why they teach differently
Very interesting to see you accomplished athletes correcting technique and improving execution mid-set while near your limits. It's a great example and a rare treat. Thank you!
Wildman and The Flowing Dutchman, I love it!! Pretty much polar opposites as personality types, and still they get along great. No divas in the room and mutual respect by the sheer force of competence. I could watch this matchup all day. 😎
These two guys have already contributed so much towards fitness with these tools. It’s great to see them working together towards common goals with such respect and camaraderie. Bring us more!
I know there's people who have zero experience with heavy clubs etc and will be like "I can easy dumbell press that, how hard can it be?", but please, take on board just how truly impressive this is!
There is so much more control with Mark’s style especially with the use of legs but the Dutchman’s style made me realize something: if you eliminate the use of legs and try to drag it along your shoulder your core rotational strength is gonna be crazy. The mere effort tryna drag the club from over your shoulder to the opposite hip closely simulates a stubborn who doesn’t want to be thrown
Standing Ovation for both of you!!!!! I'm new to club training and starting with 15lbs, sing hand, 20lbs two hands. I love both of you guys and your videos. Thanks for the instruction and inspiration.
Holy Moses….y’all are monsters! Nice example of what you tell us in the TOI program “if you breathe you can endure”…my new mantra. Fun to see you both together, great collab. Have a good workshop! 😊
Epic collab! The Dutchman uses a technique that is similar to the Korean technique. Very exaggerated pull. Definitely a result of longer levers. Very interesting seeing the two side by side. Just made history boys! Good job!! East meets West
2 day per week club training and 2 day per week kettlebell training per week sounds just about right for me…what I’m able to do. Any more than that it’s too much. So Monday Clubbell, Tuesday Kettlebell, Wednesday off, Thursday club bell, Friday Kettlebell, and Saturday/Sunday off is what’s been working great for me.
I run a program, 3x/week single arm 2x/week two handed with some double club mixed in (mainly DC front pendulum + squat). No problems with recovery. As long as you vary the exercises + weights so that every day is a different workout it's all good. Also, clubs hit the glutes + core differently than kettlebells. I used to think kettlebells 'fill a gap' in your routine but now that I swing heavy enough that isn't the case anymore.
Hi guy I began my club swing just about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. I watched everyone i can find. Though i am new to this training but my background in arm wrestling has helps me a lot. My shoulders seem to have healed up too. My calisthenics core strength helps so much and i cannot wait to someday reach heavy weight. May i mention that i train my wrists and forearms probably more than anything else. Like i say “I can’t wait to see where I’ll be 3-6 or so months from now. Thanks guys for all the tutorials and tips
Looks like two different styles of shield cast here, both strong af, dutchman seems to drive from the bottom hand, taking the club and top hand by the same side ear on the load and opposite ear with the pull. Visa-versa for mark Cheers gents, swing on 🤙
The Flowing Dutchman seems like a nice guy, too bad he has fallen into the company of a madman. Also he is sensible: “Mark, there is a limit to what you can do with a swing. There is a limit.” 3:15 Mark is always giving the cue of bringing the hands down to the collar. This is so clear here where the swinging component is accelerated. Without it you have to put in a power move. 3:26 as evidenced by the push off the feet to get that monster moving. 4:04 the swing component is accelerated at the bottom instead of powering a pullover. It is possible the FD is stronger, he is muscling the monster 4:30 The Flowing Dutchman makes this accurate analysis: “from your swing it might be easier for you” 5:39 hands down by collar, feet flat on ground, with a little hop at the heels 6:28 Herculean effort, up on his toes to get the monster around.
I'm a bit surprised you didn't discuss how you go in opposite directions for the 360. The Flowing Dutchman goes top hand past same side ear. I guess that is just personal preference.
A bit over a year and a half of messing around with my Adex cubs and doing things Mark teaches here on TH-cam and I’ve made my way to 40 lbs 360s and mills (2 handed), this year I think I’ll invest in one of his programs (unsure if basis of strength or the new BJJ one), aiming to get to some of those monster clubs in a few years
Obviously, even if you're fit, but inexperienced, put your ego aside and start low. With the very heavy clubs, you can seriously hurt yourself. So develop a program, and gradually increase the weight over a long period of time. These two gentlemen have done that from some lower staring point. These can be excellent fitness and strength development tools. But be smart about their use. Thanks for the video.
It is questionable whether it makes sense to hold only clubbells, macebells and kettlebells as fitness equipment for years... And what about TRX, ViPR, bands (used with various grip adapters)? 3 tools (CB, MB, KTB ... I own 4-6 of each), that's partly minimalism. That's why I also practice with the help of the tools I mentioned above. YES, because of that I won't become a "pro" at any particular one (because 6 tools = 2x less time per tool than 3 tools), but it will be more fun for me, and it will be better for the fascia. ..
Hey Mark! I just found your channel. I do swings myself but I use a sledgehammer and I strap weights to it to make it heavier. Sounds unsafe, I know, but it is very secure. My question is how much carry over to Olympic lifting have you found mace swinging gives you? if you do that type of lifting.
Well, your arms get really really strong. My Olympic lifting technique is not good at all because I travel all the time and I never really had an Olympic lifting coach and it wasn’t taught literally anywhere when I was young., but I still go hang out with my Crossfit buddies and do Olympic lifting. I primarily swing club.. but seeing as how Olympic lifting has no rotation in it, running a heavy club program like my basis of strength program twice a week will drastically help you cross train for your Olympic lifting
@@MarkWildman Thanks man! I'm glad I found your channel. I really only knew one movement for swings. I'm gonna try and learn from your channel to have a little more fun with my swings. Thanks again! Keep up the hard work!
Park the club. Inside or outside the center line of your body . Swing to the outside hip snap then swing behind you and in front of you and behind you an outside swings on the sides of you I feel like this fixes your back
I dont know how much mark follow indian mace lifters but in local akhara competition people wrestler's alot smaller than mark or flowing dutchman do 60 kg maces for upto 25 reps i have even seen a middle age competitor do 40 with one hand and do more than 12 or 15 reps so i dont think moving 50 kg is impossible. Its just that it will take time because it is a long process but i think its achievable. It you have the patience even i am planning that in next ten years i have to do single hand with 32 kg even if i do it for 5 reps 🙏😇
but our norse ancestors' swords and maces weren't a 4th of that weight, the armor had gotten worse though worn by the Condottiere late 15th century when the age of firearms or arquebuses started appearing on the field in combat
Screw double clean and press with kettlebells. THIS is how you build a truly Herculean physique...or test drive the latest in orthopedic surgical techniques.
Hi mister Wildman im trying to combine kettlebell -clubb-barbell-sandbag-dumbell exercising together it's to ambitious or οπου υπάρχει θέληση βρίσκεις τον τρόπο?
I think you guys ought to challenge the bodybuilding meat heads on TH-cam who equate muscle size with strength. A few come to mind: AthleanX, Ryan Humiston, Superhuman Troy, etc. However, wouldn't challenge Lu Xiaojun, who is a weightlifter, not bodybuilder.
Haha this was so much fun and challenging at the same time. You're a strong and technical man Mark. It was a pleasure to spend time together and we should do it again soon rather than later!
@theflowingdutchman Hey Dutchman! What kind of sandals are you wearing in this video? I want some.
The "Aiappa" hit different.
Love to you both. Very inspiring.
Hallo Dutchman, you say kilo no K so you are a Dutchman from The Netherlands. Top

Great perspective from 2 masters. Love both your content.

Anyone who thinks this might be easy should try swinging a 20 lb club for a few minutes
Ha ! Maces and clubs are eXtremely receptive, really wish someone would do a study on the actual forces generated per lb
Very impressive. I have to go lay down and rest after just watching this.
There is so much more control with Mark’s style especially with the use of legs but the Dutchman’s style made me realize something: if you eliminate the use of legs and try to drag it along your shoulder your core rotational strength is gonna be crazy. Well done with the heavy weight! Also appreciated the candid conversation between you two!
Just two dudes I admire swinging some heavy steel... Go strong gents! Greetings from Holland
This segment was very helpful explaining the shoulders and his components.
Love it! Makes me motivated to slap some chunkier weights on my club just for funssies.

Mark, you are a beast! Respect!
Hey Coach, holy shit! you're strong AF.
I'm in the middle of my workout and this came up. I just had to watch it first, this is so awesome!
omg! my two heroes! You guys (and lebe stark) have guided me back to fitness from a THR! Ty so much❤❤❤
Yeah, I remenber the Great Wildman, doing 10.000 casts with thease. Seen it with my own eyes!
Damn! That cracking sounds at 6.20 made me real nervous!
Maybe it was the Dutchman’s neck chain hitting the mic?
Same here
This is awesome! I've been looking at the Gladiator Club at Adex as a reward for progressing to the top weight on the Ad-On Kit
Rad
Why not just get some tiny 10 lb plates I'm sure it's Cheaper
@@MarkWildmanI hope one day you can do something with zinkunna and coach Tara and the gang for some nature synchronized workouts

Oh, we talked about it a lot just not in this video. my shield, Cast comes directly from violence his comes from traditional movements in India.
Well you now have a new goal for this yr. Working at swinging those monster clubs.
a vid of Mark milling a 28K with one hand would be EPIC

I have been on the 2 hand club ,Mill/Squat program, since October 2023.I train 3 times a week on this.

The Great Wildman indeed
Also if you got the flowing Dutchman there you might as well do one on the differences between the mace and club shield cast/360s
Didn’t have time
Such a European / American personality dynamic too haha. Theres a buddy movie in here somewhere.

I am coming up on a year of this style of training and owe a lot to you nerds
Pant-ripper could be a nice moniker for heavy clubs :D
I remember that time when the flowing Dutchman tried to swing 55 lb of a mace single arm and said I need some magisum!
Mark is a beast 👏
why does he do the shield cast backwards?
Beast clubs for a beast collab!!!
Wow wow 👏🏻 well done amazingly 💪
Cool space. Is this your studio, Mark?
Yes
Would be interesting to see Mitch Hooper shield cast and mill 1 of these.
He wouldnt be able to lol
Two different hand placements for the cast.
Can we talk about this?
Hell yeah gentlemen. If you guys can do some videos with Kyriakos Grizzly thats the only thing that would top this.
And I'm here grunting with my 25lb club :)
Mark let’s see a full session of your shield cast training.

Good lord! How do you even get to this point? Amazing swings
Run a volume cycle with every weight up to that. Should take a few years.
Brave to be swinging those next to those bikes.
The Secret is not not letting go
I just started clubbell training this year I'm up to ten 70lb shield casts but I can't do a single 60lb mace 360 wtf.

Really nice!

I love you Mark and much respect to the Dutchman but 88lbs my dog?! Not sure the benefit vs risk is the right calculus....
My 30lb club and I are going to find a corner to cry in. That's insane!
30 lbs is my favorite weight.

Till I noticed his necklace, I thought that sound on the heavy swing was his shoulder joint !
