When you talked about working under someone to learn for years and years, that really resonated with me. We have the problem in my industry(software) too. A lot of people assume that someone else knows better and they get into the habit of asking permission for everything. A lot of times you just have to try stuff for yourself to be able to grow. You can still learn form others, but just remember that nobody is born an expert. Really cool stuff on this channel, and I would love to work in an office like that!
Huge congrats! I admittedly have no architecture experience, but there's something universal about all the design topics you cover. Also a case of "if it's a creator you like, you'll listen to them explain literally anything." Keep crushing it, love the channel 🙌

I agree! I feel my senses are attacked in many other channels (they want to keep my attention... but it puts me off, tbh) and the videos on this one feel pleasant and warm 🧡
My business used to have the office suite in the far left corner! Startup days when we were 5 people. The Network Hub helped us scale to almost 10 people before we moved out. Memories!
You have a clarity of thought and ability to set a direction that few in the architecture business, let alone any other one, have. Most of us get started and wander like a pinball trying to develop into something. You appear to know what that something is and you have been able to get there in record time. The rest of us take most of our professional lives to get where you have in whatever time you’ve had to do it in, so far! It is thrilling to watch you develop and I at least feel lucky to have bumped into you on TH-cam and watch you grow the way you want to grow!
Thank you! Actually the process of making videos help me clarify my thoughts, so the channel has been very helpful in that regard. I think most architects have the skill sets needed to build a cool business, but sometimes our education is also what gets in the way of venturing into foreign territory..
@@DamiLeeArch Agreed but you have tools we older ones did not have. My mechanism was to learn to program computers to automate our work in the days before and during the early days of CAD and I succeeded in being in a unique position for many years doing stuff others did not know how to do. I know this is an informative office tour and career change discussion but very applicable to topics I've been thinking about. Looking forward to watching more of your content.
"I started to feel pretty limited in the things I could do as employee.." This is obvious. You start as a newbie, get better, grow wiser and older. Pretty much everyone has to go through this sooner or later. You are now much more than you were when you started. In that regard you definitely made the right choice of leaving things behind and starting fresh.

This is monumentally inspiring. From a young architect with so much honesty to the industry and full of insights, I learn more from this channel than my classes.
Wow, that’s very exciting. I wish I was 25 or 30 again instead of 73. My career in publishing was fun and exciting and I’m sorry it’s over. It’s fun to watch your career develop.
I love seeing people starting new ventures, I always assure people that if they have a passion for a business idea, follow it. It’ll be a struggle at first but nothing worth while is easy.
It’s not easy to say that: “I left my job”. Starting thing from srcatch, you finally find your own path. Making youtube videos is simple, creating it becomes a professional career is up to another intense level. I appreciate your effort to make architecture’s stuff more interesting than studying from school or university, cuz it quite bored 😅
Good luck to you❤️❤️💕 Its incredible how few differences there are between practicing architecture in Canada and in Poland. I find watching your videos so comforting, because I believed that it is so difficult only in my country. And Im very curious about the architectural side of your business, your creative side! So thumbs up! 😘
This is really inspiring, similar to what I've always been for. While I love architecture, design, history, research, film, etc., I really REALLY disliked the field itself. Slow, bureaucratic, limiting, etc. Being able to do anything and everything that I love (digital experiences, models, dioramas, graphics, and many more) like this is exactly what I've been dreaming to do. You've definitely helped me move one step closer to that dream.
I would like to congratulate you as well on your new journey as an entrepreneur. I am glad that the youtube algorithm presented your channel. I saw the video you did on mega cities and loved your presentation style as well as the video quality. You have a very genuine presence and make great content. I look forward to seeing what lies ahead for this channel and your company. Also I would love to see a video on the process of starting a new business. I hope your business get much success and always be healthy and happy! 🎉❤
Congratulations. I don’t known much about architecture but you clearly have the talent for the TH-cam side of things. I also think you have a great voice and personality on camera. Making your own niche will definitely give you opportunities to expand in all your God given talent. There are a lot of multitalented people out there but most people have to pick some and leave some behind. I’m really happy for you. You are living the dream, a job that isn’t a restriction of all that tou could be. I’m currently working on a masters in Educational Technology and Instructional Design so that I can do just that. Start a business that is a bit of everything that I love and have natural talent for. You are a trail blazer, I hope that one day this is actually the norm for most creative people. I sincerely wish you the very best.

yes - so much overhead to cover when you start - liab ins alone is enough to stop some - you have the personality to focus on the positive amusing how much you love rolling bookshelves - yes I am always set up with 2 computers & monitors for myself
That's such great news! I love your videos, your style and energy. Definitely looking forward to what's coming up! And I always wondered how the heck you managed a full time job + youtube + video editing + the shots. Now I know! =) PS: The office space looks amaaaaaaaazing!! Gosh, I need to hire an architect to design my office space! xD
At first, I was wondering - why does everything on this channel look so good? It must be because our host is both attractive and has got an artistic sense of taste she developed at uni which we STEM-types may never aspire to. But thankfully, this video showed there's more to it than that. If I had to condense the lessons, it would be these: 1. Things are going to look and work great if you can start from scratch and purpose-buy items (like the desks). 2. Conversely, if the space you're in already has a look you can draw inspiration from, so much the better. 3. If you invest a bit of work (like putting a backplate, a coat of paint and casters on the shelves) you have more freedom and can more easily realise your ideas. 4. Taking a step back, these desks probably don't look that way the entire time. My desk would look immaculate, too, were I to make a video, so we probably shouldn't beat ourselves up over the bowl of candy we have on our desks and which Dami has just hidden in her drawer ;-P One thing I disliked about the video: I constantly felt advertised to. The shared space, the desks, the shelves, the laser cutter. And I see the description is full of affiliate links. Now, I know this operation needs to make money, and that's fine. But I wonder, Dami - were you sponsored by Ergonofis or XTool? Or did you just get the products for free? It's OK if you were, but please make that clear. A one-liner in the description would have sufficed. ;-)
It's pretty awkward bringing up someone's appearance. Be less weird bro. In case you missed it, there was an ad component to this video. She is trying to hire. At 11:30 she's saying "you" as in the future employee or whoever is applying to work with her. She is trying to introduce her office and company informally to start the hiring process. You missed those two links that are application forms. You're probably right about the sponsorship as it's such an obscure product / company. Montreal isn't local to Toronto let alone Vancouver. Chances are they gave her a deal on the desks which is why she didn't mention a sponsorship. Their Instagram follows her and also they have a collaboration program (the ones I've seen are typically reduced pricing on products. Chances are they sold them at cost to her (probably 30-50% of the list price).
Oh forgot a good job starting your own business this is the kind of people I like to work with. I have been watching you for a while and you would fit right in my company. The person i'm looking for has to know everything about what's going on in the world. I work with governments all over the world and do so many different things, beef and milk cows, textiles , records ( music ) bottled water, airplanes from Russia before the war, etc.
TH-cam for once doing something right and showing me this video. Couldn’t come at a better moment. Struggling with what path to take, the only thing clear to me is that I don’t want to give my time to a “9-5” anymore and this video is like a signal from the universe. I can’t wait to check the rest of your channel. Subscribed.
Wishing you the best with the new business! Your videos have been a huge inspiration in helping me take a chance and move into a different field at the company where I work. After 20+ years of doing CAD/BIM in Structural (currently at an A-e firm), I'm transitioning to video production. Seeing your work gave me ideas for how we (in the AE field) can use video as a much broader tool than we're utilizing, both internally and externally. I'm so excited to see you taking it to the next level and I can't wait to see what's next for you and your team!
Congratulations. Amazing!!! Starting a business is always challenging, but you are doing an incredible job already. The clarity of your vision decides the thrust of the company. Doing what you want to do and doing what you do well do not always coincide when you are working for someone else. Sometimes it does - but not always. Doing for yourself doesn't;t mean you will be doing that either, but you get the best chance of doing it. Well done. It is not lost on me that you're a woman doing this as well with all that this adds, so extra well done for that as well. As a father of daughters - I applaud what you are doing - let's make this much more regular. Looking forward to projects and videos that inspire as much as you have been doing so far and maybe even more. To infinity.....you know ow the rest!
I couldnt get enough of your content, this kinda niche is unique. Architecture & Film, its amazing. keep up the good content. And ohh! Your look beautiful BTW! 😊

Congratulations! I remember the feeling of excitement when I went off on my own. I was also a little scared but I never regretted the decision. I look forward to your future videos, they have been a great inspiration on many levels. Best of luck!
Great work! The office space looks cozy and efficient. I've gotta say, your videos are very captivating even for someone like me (never considered architecture before). And your way of presenting is very clear and concise.
I feel like I am in a similar position. While I haven't started my own business, I was part of a two-men team. We rented out a row of cubicles from a larger company, but I was the only one consistently there. It looked really strange having one person across six cubicles. Now the company is really growing. Not only filled our cubicles, but needed to take up more space. Watching the beginning of a company is really fascinating and exciting. As we grow, we are taking on new challenges and bigger clients. I am constantly learning new skills and enjoy going to work. The thing about small companies, you really feel like you're making an impact.
Genuine person... Really took the time out to interact with your supporters and ganined a new one. Congratulations on the business I hope its prosperous!!!

3:06 Answer: Fantastic!
to be honest I didnt even know you worked for a fancy/big name architect firm, I just really liked watching your vdieos. Theyre a great balance of very informative & entertaining at the same time. Congratulations with the new office space & good luck to you & your team moving forward! Very excited to see what you guys have in store for all of us
Congrats! that is awesome! You took the left, right and center path, you would make Es Devlin very proud ;) You got this!
This is monumentally inspiring. From a young architect with so much honesty to the industry and full of insights, I learn more from this channel than my classes.
Congratulations!! Will definitely sub to the newsletter and enjoy watching your adventure!
Wow, that’s very exciting. I wish I was 25 or 30 again instead of 73. My career in publishing was fun and exciting and I’m sorry it’s over. It’s fun to watch your career develop.
Don't be sorry your career is over. Be glad that it happened! Not everyone who wants to work in publishing gets the opportunity.
I love seeing people starting new ventures, I always assure people that if they have a passion for a business idea, follow it. It’ll be a struggle at first but nothing worth while is easy.
Congratulations, Dami! 🥳🎉 The new office looks good! Cheers to your success! 💗✨
arch student. I really cant thank you enough for what youve done. Just watching you is a lesson (not only about architecture)
Congrats, Love to see you grow and take on the new challenge ! I just started my Architectural practice this year, thanks for the inspiration.
I’m a nurse but I love you so much I just subscribed to your channel 😇
Please document your journey! You got all of us excited for you :D
12:20 You could easily use magnets: drill holes the size of small powerful magnets and glue them with epoxy. That would be neat.
It’s not easy to say that: “I left my job”. Starting thing from srcatch, you finally find your own path. Making youtube videos is simple, creating it becomes a professional career is up to another intense level. I appreciate your effort to make architecture’s stuff more interesting than studying from school or university, cuz it quite bored 😅
no matter what you decide to do, I have faith in you that you will make it well! Huge congrats!
Anyway, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄
Thank you! Hope you have an awesome holiday as well 😊
I like how you think, not just in your profession, but in the way you think about your business. I'm sure your business will go a long way.
Amazing! Coworking has its challenges but sometimes it's great to separate your work and home spaces. Looking forward to seeing more!
Also lol Joma cameo 🤣
Omg congratss 👌🙏🔥 were so happy for you! Good luck on this new and exciting journey! Just know we support you! 👌💪
Your clarity and sincerity is fantastic, I'm inspired
I didn't know you before this video and I had a mild interest in architecture, but I'm a huge techy and this video was awesome and so engaging! I'm now a subscriber and can't wait to watch your journey!
Wow. Im in the process of pivoting in my own career too. I actually just opened my own ophthalmology office and saw my first patient this week. I think you nailed a few key points that are definitely applicable to young surgeons. Best of luck with your new business. Your video was inspiring even though we have different disciplines!
... Пора браться за английский. Когда встречаешь таких Авторов!
Ну и за остальные Проекты!
Congratulations on starting your new entrepreneurial adventure! It is truly a special and rewarding mindset that very few are brave enough to explore. I applaud you and your team for taking this leap of faith!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🎉🎊🥳
You are a great storyteller i could listen to you talk all day... And have a lovely smile😀
Damn dami, that's actually so much inspiring, to see your channel grow and to get this high quality standard from the very past videos is so cool!!! Good luck on this new jorney, i have always loved to watch your videos drinking a cup of coffe
Thank you so much!! Yes it has come a long way 😅
I know this is 10 months ago. Meaning it’s almost a year! Congratulations Dami! You are like a sister and a role model, its very enlightening and excited to see how far one can achieve with their determinations and goals in mind. I am definitely learning so much from your videos, so please keep making video and share your insights! Thank you for being so open and honest with everything for one to learn!
Congrats on your new business. I'm glad you were able to launch out on your own. Your design skills are fabulous. Amazing decor!!!
The algorithim recommended this video for some reason and this was an instant sub. I don't know you but I'm excited to follow your journey!!! Love the storytelling, the production quality, and the creativity.
Beautiful work area ! the colors and furniture make it feel amazing.
Congratulations Dami! You'll do great things! We're all rooting for ya!
yes - so much overhead to cover when you start - liab ins alone is enough to stop some - you have the personality to focus on the positive
amusing how much you love rolling bookshelves - yes I am always set up with 2 computers & monitors for myself
Note the Joma cameo 😭😭
Congratulations on starting your own business, I look forward to more of your fascinating videos and seeing the growth of your company.
That's such great news! I love your videos, your style and energy. Definitely looking forward to what's coming up! And I always wondered how the heck you managed a full time job + youtube + video editing + the shots. Now I know! =)
PS: The office space looks amaaaaaaaazing!!
If I had to condense the lessons, it would be these:
My desk would look immaculate, too, were I to make a video, so we probably shouldn't beat ourselves up over the bowl of candy we have on our desks and which Dami has just hidden in her drawer ;-P
One thing I disliked about the video: I constantly felt advertised to.
This is way more impressive than working at a fancy firm.
Having a history in real estate development, I really love seeing your fresh approach using the latest tools. Very inspirational and creative!
Came here for joma 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where did Joma go?
@@rutabega306 I don't know bro, homie be gone for some time now
TH-cam for once doing something right and showing me this video. Couldn’t come at a better moment. Struggling with what path to take, the only thing clear to me is that I don’t want to give my time to a “9-5” anymore and this video is like a signal from the universe. I can’t wait to check the rest of your channel. Subscribed.
Style, elegance, quality, message...simply amazing. Great job!
The attention to detail and thought you put into this is incredible. The Joma cameo was a nice touch.
I only started following your channel recently and I found it awesome! All the best with the new business 🎉
You can tell there was always a lot of talent in what you talked about. I really liked how you would talk about architecture from movies. Nice to see you stepping out and making your own way. Thanks for videos!!
All of it looks amazing 👏 Looking forward to Joma and you doing a collab!
Congratulations Dami! you are fantastic as an architect, and as a person as well. Being so open and sharing so many great ideas that inspire us. Have a great 2023! Abrazos🎉🎉🎉
Doesn't really surprise, likely no one else, that you stepped up to the next level and went out on your own. Good for you.
Congrats! Video production looks amazing! All the transitions and animations are just spot on 🤌❤
I just found your channel a month or two ago but I stayed because of this particular video. Kudos!
