My baby looks so good! First of all, Spinning Reaper is back which is great. It does Perfect Rush finisher from the Rise which can combo into another moves. All the Plunging Thrust variations looks amazing and unlike in Rise you can feel the resistance similar to MHW Helm Breaker. Focus Strike that allows you to hold onto the wound and choose 1 of 2/3? attacks is great as well (Falling Bash variation adds uppercut that resembles Metsu). Side stepping is a nice addition for repositioning mid combo. It can do both Sliding Slash and Advancing Slash. Then it can do perfect guard with the counter, power clash and you can jump on top of the monster! Imagine e.g. jumping off of the monster to mount other flying monter or so. I'm curious to see how it can be utilized. Anyway I can already tell it's the best iteration so far. Cannot wait to try it for myself.
Probably not quite as much as Rise, but just as much as World. However, with the plunge attack, faster shield bash combo from Rise, spining reaper on your SnS combo, and focus strike I don't think it'll be required to keep up DPS. It seems they focused on letting SnS have more than one option for DPS this time. I think Sunbreak did a pretty good job at balancing it, but at the cost of making PR too weak.
i mean, i will always love the SnS, but honestly though seeing what they did with the Bow and the LS, i think this is the right moment for SnS to have oils back, it was always such a great idea, let the only melee weapon that has natural sinergy with items to have a specific item for the weapon, i know that at this point is hopeless asking, but i do think that the SnS is not looking that different
maybe that's why they allowed for so many cancel windows? so you can initiate an attack that moves you to a monster part and then cancel and do a focus strike o: could also work with the helm breaker?
it's a pity Arekkz ins't here to drool over SnS' Wilds moveset. i even spotted Lala Barina's SnS in one of Ragegamingvideos' videos: let me tell you, it's gorgeous. he'd love it.

Maybe Im just bad but I really wish the S&Ss shield drop/slam attack was aimable, its a such a cool move but 50% of the time it whiffs...let alone hitting the head T_T
I know I will still main the sns as I always have but it sucks to see it became an after thought for most other weps. So many "new" moves are just animations that have been split and re named. Focus strike is metsu, charged chop has same animation as wall running attack from world, slide is from rise, perfect guard follow up is spinning reaper. Most weapons got new flashy moves or useful improvements SnS is mostly the same.. Saying "SNS looks incredible" is cope. The only thing I can say is new for sns is the focused strike from perfect rush fall which does look good.
While you're right, those changes are put in an order that drastically improves them. The wall running attack was one of the best high damage attacks that applied a lot of element/status. You almost never got to use it in World due to map layout. You can do it during any opening now. Basically, if you don't have time for PR, that's probably going to be the bread and butter move. As for the slide, did you notice that he consistantly slid UNDER the monster and moved to the other side. That means it's going to be a great way to reposition during a fight. The perfect guard seems to be easier to pull off than a guard slash, and it seems to have better blocking ability too. And instead of needing to do a PR to get to that spinning reaper, you can just go straight into it. It allows for very quick follow ups after a guard. To me, SnS is still the same as always. It appears basic, but gives you much more combo options than pretty much any weapon. We have four basic DPS combos that can all be pretty much strung together. Let's say you have an axhausted monster in a trap. You can start with a shield bash to try and get a KO, backhop into a plunge attack, do a full SnS combo ending with spinning reaper, backhop from there and do a PR ending in a jump attack that can: A: Do more KO damage B: Slice for mounting damage C: focus strike.
I was a big fan of the wall running attack, in most hunts there was at least one area you could lure the monster to for healthy (if not op) amount of damage 😅. So having full access to that attack is nice I agree. The range of the attack looks concerning but that could be due to poor positioning. To be honest I don't find being able to reposition with a slide over a back hop to be all that impactful I don't know if there are any s or anything attached to it but back hop from neutral granting an I frame + sending you to perfect rush sounds superior. Spinning reaper could be performed without perfect rush pre rise as well but I also agree perfectly guard is dope I think I forgot to mention it in the first comment. To reiterate I love SNS. But looking at longswords multi hit stylized combos, perfect evades, counters, and different moveset based on weapon charge it looks like sns got left behind is all.
@@Earcandyvocalz What I meant about the repositioning is that the slide is a forward movement vs a backward. Let's say you're at the head and want to reach the tail. You can either walk around and close the gap with a rush in attack, turn away from the mosnter and backhop then cancel, or seemingly in rise slide under the monter. If I recall correctly; in Rise the slide made you jump if it connected with the monster. The Wilds version lets you slide under attacks like a tail swipe and end up on the other side. Spining reaper had two forms, the powered and unpowered. To get the full damage it had to follow a finishing A combo or PR. In Wilds it can be done straight from a perfect guard.
The back hop to perfect rush could be used in what ever direction you wanted, ex: I would turn the camera 180 from the monster block- back hop from neutral- then if need be roll for extended range + another or finish perfect rush. Yes the slide was apart of the "areal style" in rise so it would put you in the air for a falling bash. But that is to my point the move was already in our kit its not (new) its reorganized. Spinning reaper attack is cool not mad at it but again its been in the kit for 2 generations its not a new way to use sns. Ex: Bow - tracking arrows Hunting horn -resonating aoe music pools Long sword- multi hit combos on multi hit combos Dual blades -perfect evade + third form of demon rush Sns - perfect block and can strafe
