    There is actually a hint in Episode 5 about Taiwan. Near the beginning, when Natsuhi is having tea with Piece BEATRICE, BEATRICE looks into Natsuhi's heart back to a time where Krauss took her to Taiwan. Krauss tries to get Natsuhi to try an areca nut, and mentions that nut is Kinzo's favorite.
    See, Fantasy is very important. LAMBDADELTA was , indeed, giving hints, despite appearances.

    As a part of “I don’t want anyone knowing about the events of tonight”, no one is ever told that Yasu/Shannon/Beato/Lion/Clair solved the epitaph. This includes Krauss and Natsuhi. The idea that the epitaph can still be solved and someone can still inherent the head and the gold instead of Krauss is what worries him. Not to mention that would lead to a complicated situation where they would certainly find out that Kinzo is dead.
    I encourage you to think about the scenes here. They never explicitly say that Yasu’s mother is also their sister, or that both their mother and grandmother died tragically. You can infer that there was probably more than what was shown. There is absolutely room for Yasu to have a total breakdown over this. And if you think that Kanon and Shannon are the same person, there is absolutely room for Yasu to have a breakdown over which person they are supposed to be. Umineko still isn’t giving you everything.
    The last two hours or so of this chapter are so, so iconic… wishing you luck.

    At 4:23, Genji refers to his conversation partner with the singular, "Omae", not the plural, "Omaetachi", even though the narrative tells us Shannon and Kanon are both present. This narrative trick was there since the beginning. On my first re-read, this blew my mind.

    You gotta hand it to Eva and Rosa in Episode 3. After realising the thing about the railway line Eva solved the rest of the epitaph, found a ladder to climb up to the sign, correctly arrange all the keys, travel through the underground tunnel and back again, rearrange all the keys to conceal her discovery, bring the ladder back, all before the others thought that it was odd that she was gone for so long.

      You forget, she also stayed in the VIP room long enough for Rosa to catch up, have an argument at gun point, bring her into the room, stay long enough to admire the gold, THEN came back, but only before arguing about what to do about knowing about the gold in front of the guesthouse.
      All that, and yet as far as everyone in the guest house was concerned both of them never left....

    As for why Yasu might end up resorting to murder, here's a thought: Yasu/Shannon/Lion literally just found out that Kinzo is their father and he immediately croaked. They will never spend time with him as parent and child, and the same goes with Kuwadorian Beatrice. Then look at what happens in the aftermath of Kinzo's death, as we see in episode 5: the only thing on the older siblings' minds is how they can manipulate matters and profit off the man's passing. They've had all their lives to build a relationship with their father and yet they see him only as yen signs and/or a status symbol. Yasu was never even given the same chance that the others squandered, and I can imagine that would build up quite the bitterness as things between the siblings only escalated over the next couple of years.

That's kind of the exact reason HOW Yasu is related to everyone else and became disgusted by their own incestuous inclinations and went mad as a result. And Yasu having no chance at a normal family kind of goes hand-in-hand with their mistreatment/abandonment by Natsuhi as an infant, yes? I'm extrapolating additional reasons rather than hinging on the more obvious elements. There are a lot of factors that go into why Yasu wanted to wipe everything clean.

    Also, after reading Twilight, you can read a manga only Confession of the Golden Witch chapter, if you really want to see madness. It basically portrays the same events, but very plainly and without the "magic" to hide the pain and despair. It's much more convincing, but also painful there.
    Novel basically won't answer that, but manga has the official answers from Ryukishi to everything that wasn't explained in VN (it also answers directly about every crime in every game).

      One of the Japanese let's players I'm watching figured it out because the Japanese pronounciation was almost the same as Kuwadorian, and that name came up a LOT in Ep3. They pieced that together with the notes of m, b, t, q that they took from EP2.

When Meta Battler is freaking out about what he saw, BEATRICE says she is one Quadrillion percent sure he cannot explain it, and therefore, should believe in her Magic. Of course, if Battle solved the riddle, he would find the manifestation of her Magic.

    If i remember correctly, the Beatrice and Kinzo scene is the second scene in the entire novel that play Bring the Fate ost and it's the most impactful scene with that ost(i felt emotional at that scene). Kinzo gave Yasu his all wealth and titles to make up for his sins but also create another mistake by placing a new burden on her (which cause the demise of his entire family).

  • @ddflame286
    @ddflame286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Bear in mind that, regarding the "whydunnit", what we are being shown here is a sanitized version of the truth. It was implied at the beginning of this Episode that Battler wrote this tale for Beato, and he has been reticent to expose her fragile heart ever since he arrived at the truth. For instance, he refused the solve the "logic error" in the last Episode, despite the fact that it never truly was one (as the game did not immediately end), because doing so would expose a part of her heart.
    But, regardless of how you answer the question of who's telling whose story, Beatrice has never wanted to expose her entire self to the world. The onus is placed on us to come to understand her by putting the pieces together and approaching her story with love...
    ...(There's also a little more information in this Episode and an entire manga interlude that basically lays the truth bare, but that's not relevant just now 😄...)

    • @akajulester
      @akajulester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually think the story Battler wrote for Beato he placed in her coffin was supposed to be EP6, but idk, it's hard to tell. I prefer Clair's story much better when it's interpreted as Yasu herself being able to tell her story the way she wants to, with Will giving very little of his own opinion. Though like you said, it's important to remember Clair's story is a very sanitized version (and as next week's episode reveals, skips the 2 years between solving the epitaph and the 1986 family conference, though we've already seen those years mainly in EP2).

    I always really loved how the solution of the epitaph played itself out. In the end,no one could solve Kinzo's riddle,simply because not one person in the Ushiromiya estate ever cared to even know what his beloved home of old was. It is only through an hint by Genji,an omniscent detective in Erika,or thanks to "magic" with Eva,that anyone ever reaches the gold.
    It's even sadder that Kinzo made the entirely riddle on the chance that his beloved Beatrice would understand him,as it was constructed to be solved only by her,but he died never knowing that she didn't manage to get to the answer by herself. Even in death,no one really got to know who Kinzo even was. Maybe that's his punishment.
    It's also pretty cool how Kinzo's last moments lead right into the beginning of Episode 5,when Krauss and Natsuhi enter the study,only to find Kinzo dead,and Nanjo specifically says:"He died peacefully, I don't think he had any regrets". Perfectly woven together.
    About the fact that the servants would probably become suspicious of the engraving on the door:remember how in Episode 4,when Ange is meeting up with Kumasawa's son,she finds pictures of the chapel,she too,was trying to find the answer to the epitaph? People definitely knew the place was suspicious,it's just that no one dared to get close to it,under Kinzo's personal orders,in fear of the consequences. Even Will chides Lion for listening to those warnings.
    And about what you said about Natsuhi and the events of Episode 5 with the man from 19 years ago and the baby...don't stop thinking. Why DID she not think it strange that it was a man speaking to her on the phone? Why is Lion's gender left ambiguous? Why are Shannon and Kanon two halves of the same brooch? Why have Zephar and Furfur been so prominent in these last two episodes,after Battler and Will took over?
    I'm sure you can find the answer to Yasu/Lion/Shannon/Clair/Beato's woes,sooner or later.

      Another massive mistake of Kinzo's that is often overlooked is him not trying to learn to love his other children, completely shackled by his one sin and butting his head against it trying to resolve it in the most direct way possible even if it's a delusional solution, due to this his relationship with his other family suffered even though it could've been another form of saving for him, and he never even realized or gave them a chance even up until his very last moments, really sad tbh

      "not one person in the Ushiromiya estate ever cared to even know what his beloved home of old was" - I don't think it's true, because in episode 3 Eva says to the others while they are trying to solve the riddle "We all know what this beloved homeland is". They just don't say it out loud.

    • @crackracing7900
      @crackracing7900 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YuriyVashurin I always interpreted that as them being way too sure about an answer that's incorrect,especially considering that,again,none of the children manage to get past the first section of the epitaph without some sort of epiphany (especially because even as early as Episode 1,the cousins too,believe the home to be referring to Odawara)
      It would also fit with the theme of Kinzo being a wholly different person depending on the eye of the beholder,and also the themes of people not being able to talk and connect with eachother that Ryukishi really loves.
      But who knows,it could be just him hiding the truth from the reader in that occasion too,I could be wrong.

    Hello Rose, as some others are saying in the comments, as a fan of the story, you should really check out the Umineko episode 8 manga after finishing the visual novel!
    It contains a lot of extra additions and changes that Ryukishi07 wanted to include specifically for the manga adaptation, with it completing the experience for a lot of people. It includes majority of the answers to the story, even the most subtle of mysteries that Ryukishi vaguely hinted at, while still preserving the heart with love and passion for the characters and story (many even preferring how it handles some of the characters and its messages).
    Some are mentioning to only read Confessions of the Golden Witch, which is a manga exclusive arc, but it’s strongly advised to read the entire manga episode, as almost the entirety of episode 8’s manga is filled with changes and additions that ties into Confessions AND a chapter called Cage of Obligations. It’s how the story builds up to that arc and how it utilizes that arc (Cage of Obligations) as a part of its narrative that matters, rather than for readers to selectively pry out the truth. The fanmade visual novel counterpart for the chapter is not substitute for the manga’s phenomenal art and paneling, while lacking that buildup and extra love put into it.

  • @fafaaf61
    @fafaaf61 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Unfortunately the Epitaph is one of those mysteries that is basically impossible to solve on your own by sheer virtue of being translated into English. It requires some wordplay involving Chinese, Japanese and English and while it makes more sense for a Japanese viewer to be more familiar with those languages, it makes less sense for an English speaking person to understand.

    • @JohnSmith_.
      @JohnSmith_. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Actually, while you do need _some_ research if you don't know Japanese, being an English speaker lets you skip parts of the Epitaph. I solved it in EP6. In fact, I was able to figure out that the "river" was in Taiwan and that the "river" was the railway system back when the Epitaph was first brought up in EP1.
      It's definitely harder if you don't know Japanese, but it being "basically impossible" is definitely not true.

    As for the thing about the "man" from 19 years ago... There are a lot of ways to interpret it. I think the loosest way is that it's kind of purely representational. It's just the voice Lambda gave the character. It also happens to be the same as Battler's voice and (spoilers) it is not Battler. Of course, there are other ways to look at it, but that's the least committal way. You also have to remember, the voice acting came later. I'm sure Ryukishi had a hand in things but it was presented with no voice acting first

    • @JohnSmith_.
      @JohnSmith_. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the "man" from 19 years ago because Battler's "theory" ended up being that he was that child, so using Battler's voice was on purpose. The magic side "story" was that Battler was that child, so every magic side interpretation had the child being referred to as a "man". That doesn't mean that the child _wasn't_ a man, but it does mean that them referring to the child as a man in EP6 was only because of Battler's theory.

    it cant be shannon because she marries george and that makes incest
    think things through a bit more and lion created for that boardgame alone meaning that this whole baby thing never existed

    maybe he cheated on beatrice with gaap but no child the child might be figurative for something as well

  • @ihartevil

    i am pretty sure in a past gameboard with one of those weird letter monologues that come up clearly stated no insist happened in this game it wasnt anybody speaking it was black with the white letters
    it talked about how the names dont matter and to stop thinking of incest beatrice also made it very clear nothing like that happened between her and kinzo
    he created her into a baby with magic in that game play maybe it means he adopted another baby and named it beatrice
    at the beginning of this game play gaap was beatrice so maybe that means he slept with her and that seems more like a gaap thing then a beatrice thing
    i want to go back into the old game plays and see about that being implied anywhere and that might be the beatrice being talked about as the reincarnation instead of a incest because something tells me that once gaap brought up something like that very subtly
    beatrice always stated friends nothing more at best

    no of course not my uncle barely got access to it and i forget how he managed to on one of those huge clunky computers
    all i know it saved my cousins life his daughter really sick and hospitals in america bankrupt at that time so from my understanding until 1993ish why care about the truth to the illness
    my uncle figured it out threatened to sue them and saved her (allergic to soy because in america strict breast feeding until the baby becomes 1-2 years old like what needs to happen got her sick instead) allergic to the baby formula that no baby ever needs to be on
    i doubt this comment gets posted because america government deletes stuff

    thats how lion got created by lamb breaking knox rules and messing around with things remember lamb through her voice on the phone
    thats why i am going to the baby being figurative more then a literal baby

    i just decided that the epitaph under the portrait meaningless except to give this play a plot but its not really something to be solved a red herring for people like you that think there might be an actual answer when the answer for it
    they put on a play and acted it out because battler came back it made it so finally enough people to put on the show

  • @ihartevil
    @ihartevil ปีที่แล้ว

    or that shes in love with george and by solving the epitph the family excepts her and also makes it so kanon and jessica get to be together
    because a servant in this family being married seems like other then in one of the first gameboards not really acceptable
    eva might be fine with it being shannon because then she says get married to george you became the successor and shes female having another male like kanon in charge she might not care for that much

    she just found out she was realized to battler for that to be her love she would stop loving him
    its shannons love and since shannon isnt realized the bud still blooms sadly and why i know that no child exists because battler and beatrice the one we know never realized to them in anyway
    she made it very clear she never sexed kinzo in one of the game plays

    i don't understand how genji or kumasawa were cool with this yasu person being both shannon and kanon. because kanon appears as a male, battler sees him as a male, which means this person dresses and appears like a male. so are genji and kumasawa cool with this yasu person having different personas? and treating them as if they are the persona they created? i can imagine an older person patronizing a child like that, but a teenager..?

      Kumasawa was the one who bought fake boob bras for Yasu in the official manga. You have to remember that a male baby was dropped off a cliff and through a miracle of god survived the fall. Later, Yasu grows up thinking she’s a girl and raised as such in a catholic orphanage. What do you think happened?

      Yasu had a sharp rocks dick removal as a baby. What gender do you think she should present? Try to be the woman she thought she was all along or force herself to become a man again even though the dick will never come back?
