I've heard of it, just haven't seen it. Mine was an older one and never failed. Supposedly they have loose tolerances and under wear they can tilt inside the tube and catch. Causing feeding issues. Personally I've seen the cheaper magazine tube springs fail more often than the follower. But still, it's not a bad upgrade in my opinion.
I purchased and installed the timney trigger several years ago. Like all my other timney’s. Trigger action is very much improved. Trigger pull is around 2.75 pounds. Very little creep with a crisp release. The timney is probably the single most valued upgrade you can do.
Agreed, I got a red aluminum follower, Volquartsen extractor and Magpul furniture and barrel clamp. Plus, I redid the finish with Cerakote for better corrosion control. I got my 870 Tactical just prior to the bankruptcy so unfortunately it did have some quality issues but those I resolved with the upgrades/modifications I mentioned. Now that Remington is under RemArms, I'm hopeful many of the quality issues have been addressed.
This comment isn't anything major but i wanted to share my experience with a new (post split) 870 tactical. I picked mine up for about $400 which was not to great for a shotgun, especially since the model has remained unchanged for god knows how long. However, there are a multitude of improvements that I hadn't considered before hand. Some of the services and changes that came with my model are: - Wood stock and forend. - predrilled optic mount holes. - removed dimple in magazine tube. - Standard 4 capacity length tube with Remington +2 capacity extension. - Action bars feel easier to take out. Some of the cons that came with a cheaper production gun were: - Shitty finish. wood and metal parts need to be cerakoted or redone. - Front sling mount on barrel clamp but no rear one in the stock. - Buttpad screws stay inside the buttpad when removing. - Action bars feel cheaply made. They spring outwards so the bolt will fall off on disassembly if oriented slightly askew. - forend nut and stock screw felt insanely overtightened from factory. This isn't going to change but the cheap metal might chip or break from people overcompensating to break them loose. The cons list is just as big as the positives in my opinion but I'm just happy to have an 870 in my time. I am in my early 20s, so the height of the Remington experience passed right over me. Now that I can afford them, I'm still chasing bids for the 32" Wingmaster barrels and elusive Rem 1100. At least one of those has come back under RemArms so there's some comfort.

Son finished hunting .He emptied the gun. I racked it at least 5 times before putting gun in the case. At home I racked it at least 5 times before putting it in gun cabnit. Took it out days later to clean the gun. Racked it 5 more times after taking it out of the case. Found a shell hung up in the mag tube. No more plastic orange follower for me.
1st rule for this..visually inspect. you failed miserably. no type of shell follower will help you. a metal one can and will get field crud in it if you use it in the field.
Let's focus on the Action Bar Lock, the current one is small and uncomfortable with the trigger finger. Is their a modification to this piece that controls the Bolt sliding forward and backward. The 1301 Beretta has it on the right side very well placed with an open groove. Since the Bar is located next to the trigger, would one have to replace the trigger assembly?
No ready fix as far as I know. I have a design that I tried to get a parts company interested in. Owner is a pompous ass, and said it was unnecessary, and no one would want it, so no manufacture. Any competent gun smith could do this upgrade though. It is also possible to convert the safety to bilateral flip safety, which really helps left side shooters. Again, no manufacturer.
Hi Vitaly, which one is your favourite stock & forend set - Hogue or Magpul? I’m going to get a 870p marine mag and would like to take your advice for furniture upgrades! I’m having a hard time choosing between Hogue and Magpul.. Which one would you recommend the most to me? Thanks! edit: I don’t decide to put on too many tactical accessories but only want it to be consistent and smooth working. Does the quality of Hogue set exceed that of the 870 Police Marine Magnum factory stock & forend set?
You don’t actually need any of this crap. reminds me of Glock guys telling you that Glock is amazing but replace the trigger, slide, sights, recoil springs etc
No, you don't need any upgrades for safe queens, or wall hangers. The user that only shoots one box of ammo per decade are fine with OEM. Anything more than once per year use, or purposes other than hunting, it is highly advised to improve the parts.
@@calvinspiff4348 why would I need to upgrade anything on a vehicle that is functioning perfectly fine in getting me from point A to point B? Once he gets worn out, maybe. But buying something new and then throwing a bunch of aftermarket crap on it? Foolish. Just my opinion

Specifically, I have had to replace shotgun followers and springs on my, or others' shotguns, that broke and jammed up. Annoying when it happens. Eyes sometimes need help, so optics or improved visibility sights are helpful. I guess I was a bit vague on my previous post.

You can upgrade your barrel to a 20 to 34 inch barrel as well as add on a plus 1 to plus 12 mag tube extension.

Try a choute stock and fore end. they are black. you cn paint them I use brownells alum hyde.

My 870 20 ga express magnum pumps very hard, like there is sand in the action. Nothing smooth about it.
Try cleaning and adding some oil on the action bars.
870 express guns are not up to the same quality and refinement as Wingmasters😢
