UGHH! Not looking forward to doing this maintenance on my ski. Thanks so much for posting this video and all of the other outstanding maintenance vids you have made! Kawi sure made a cash cow for the dealerships if one has to pay to have all of this done!
Well, just completed this for my 2019 310 SE after 5 years in salt water. It wasn't hard, just several steps and time suckage. Thanks for another great video that I referenced several times in the process.
Thanks for the reply, water was on and then engine turned on for 30 -60 seconds, before I saw what was happening and shut off the 310 . no warnings or notification via alarms from the 310 The video worked for me. He didn’t watch it carefully enough
Ah…yeah hammer home that you always always always check the bypass port on side of ski for water flow when flushing/ running engine on the hose. I’m sure it’ll be fine. If you’re paranoid you can always check the oil and if it looks very dark (burned) you can do a quick change to be safe.
Hi JD, I'm down to removing the plastic bushings from the base plate on this project, but can't remove them. Any tips on that? Would it be ok to just clean and grease the inside of that hole without removing the bushings and reassemble? Is there a special tool needed or just try to push them out with a socket or screwdriver and lots of WD-40? Thanks...love your channel
Same procedure for the STX160 I Assume? Also, did I miss where you checked the fuel breather?? Curious because mine blew off at the coupling T just above the tank where there's a short hose mated to a plastic coupler then the long hose up to the handlebar area. Not sure if because I overfilled at the pump but I put about 5 gallons of gas in my hull and only by sheer luck did I realize it before firing up the ski and probably myself... Reconnected and ziptied the coupler, drained and washed hull out for an hour and then went on a 4 hour ride with no issues, but if it's a simple breather check, I want to know how to do it. Thanks! And keep up the great Tutorials and Kawi content!!
Thanks for the comment! Procedure is similar but it’s a bit different for the STX, not as much decking or cowling to remove. I have a video where I change the fuel filter on the 310, and that is the video where I check the breather line. I think they have the same one way check valve but the actual location of the breather vent and house routing different on the STX than the Ultras
JD. Just purchased a 2023 ultra 310 lx. Love the machine. Your videos are fantastic. Ordered my service manual its on its way. I did have a question on handle bar movement. I know that the bars adjust up and down but when its locked into potion there is still - to me - a lot of play forward and back is this normal? Second question We are in Colorado on fresh water and have not done any crazy riding at all but after we get off the lake there is always about an inch of water in the hull just Infront of the engine. When I pull boat out and take out drain plugs water never comes out but that water is still in the front I have been sponging it out. Is it normal to get some water in hull? Thanks ----- Chris
The handlebar play is unfortunately normal. You can take the plastic shroud off and attempt to tighten up a bit, but because of the range of adjustment the play is normal. If you don’t like the play you can add a fixed handlebar but then your trade of the ability to adjust on the fly. In terms of the little bit of water in the bilge, it’s probably coming in from the headlights- this is a known issue and I just addressed it one my ski- I have a video coming soon showing how to fix it- very easy.
Thanks for the comment! Good job buying the service manual, it is always amazing to me how resistant people are to buying it. They will drop $thousands for a tune but not spend $80 for the manual! Lol
Can you please tell me if that pivot assembly has anything holding it after you remove the main nut from top of it? Because it's not shown in video. Referring to 10:09 - 10:16
You will feel the steering getting noticeably stiffer. This is what it will be. I think I did mine at 130ish hrs (purely salt) Should have done it sooner as when I was done lubing it up it felt smooth as silk. They really need to be brass bushes with grease groves and a grease nipple or two.
. Hoping someone can provide some peace of mind Over the weekend my son in an effort to help inadvertently turned on the engine on our Kawasaki 310lx while water was on going into the intercooler water port. (The black one on the rea of the machine ) I am a tad panicked service manual says “note When flushing the intercooler system it is not necessary to start the engine “ Am I ok or do I need bring the 310 lx to work on. Or is theresomething I can do to help the scenerio out. Thanks in advance
Watch my video on flushing the ski…you flush the intercooler first with the engine off, then flush the engine. If you have water running into the intercooler flush port and then start the engine- the engine will be running without cooling water. You do not want to run the engine without a water supply for more than about 15 seconds or You can overheat the engine, causing damage to the engine itself and the supple exhaust hoses. Hopefully you only had the engine running for a short while with no water going through the engine flush port…did the over temp alarm form off?
Haha..the SeaDoo ones are all plastic so no corrosion, but there is a plastic wear ring in there that needs to be replaced every few years is what I’m told
@JDsWaterWorld it's all good, it took a while to load, I was the first in line to watch, you had put it on line a few second ago, but couldn't load it, but it's all good now, thank you for all the info you put out🤙🤙🤙

Yeah they are definitely trying to milk it, too bad the $13hr mechanics can’t do shit correctly
Exactly! I gladly pay if I could find a professional that would do it to my standards, but that guy is too far from me in Jupiter!!😂
Thanks for all your videos. Definitely subscribed and will recommend it.
Glad they are helpful! You can always feel free to email me as well at jdswaterworld@gmail.com!
ahhhH!!!!! another great tip on maintenance. thanks for this, JD.
Well you know I’ve been putting it off for a while because of how much crap you have to take apart to get to it, but wasn’t all that bad

Glad the video was helpful! The Gen 1 skis are definitely easier- less upper plastic fairings to take apart!
This would be beyond me but as always, thanks for the video.
It can be intimidating to take the entire ski apart like this, hopefully you have yourself a good mechanic who can do it for you!
Great job once again JD, thanks for sharing!

Have you got a storage rack or cooler rack setup yet ? I’m trying to figure out who makes them for these skis
I have both! The Kawasaki Genuine Cargo Rack for the 2022+ Kawasaki Ultra 160/310 LX and LX-S with Ultra Deck

Enjoyed the video, what type of grease do you recommend for this job?
Corrosion Block marine grease, available at west marine and Amazon.

JD - how about a group buy on kawiperformance spark plug wires
You need a set? lol I haven’t seen their plug wires- but everything they sell is top quality. I’d spring for some neon green ones
@@JDsWaterWorld yes I'm looking to upgrade mine
Hi JD, the top plate below castle nut, does it go on one way or can it be set left or right resulting in off centered steering?
It goes on only one way, and does not affect the steering adjustment.
Can you please tell me if that pivot assembly has anything holding it after you remove the main nut from top of it? Because it's not shown in video. Referring to 10:09 - 10:16
Nope, the pivot slides right out once the main nut is removed and the Allen plate and knurled ring are removed
how many hours do u recommend doing this
If you ride in salt, no more than 150 hrs or 1 year if you ride exclusively in fresh, you can probably stretch it to 250 or 2 years

Hey mate, great video. Quick question, is this set up the same or similar to an older ultra 300x?
Yes exactly the same except the 300 the top deck part of the assembly is easier to get to the components
Legend mate. Thank you!
